      why don't you make second floor bus, which is going backwards to your current bus? like with motors, but second floor, instead of changing direction of one of the lines

      My question is, is there a trick to laying the foundations? Some way to easily lay those thousands of pieces? I would love a base but can't justify laying foundations for hours. Is there a way to click-and-drag an area I'm not aware of?

    • @lordzeus3260
      @lordzeus3260 Před 4 lety +2

      @@theral056 you can use the interactive map to spawn geometrical shapes using foundations. And it's not cheating because there is an option for it to use resources from your storage boxes.

    • @lordzeus3260
      @lordzeus3260 Před 4 lety

      Pro tip: foundations have a "front" side but there is no indicator witch side it is, but using the interactive map to spawn like "roads" (what I use mostly) the front of the foundation is where it will tile from so if you click on a foundation right click /spawn around foundation/ let's say a 5 wide 12 long. It will use the clicked foundation as a starting point spawning 4 blocks on Each side and 12 long away from it. If it's in the wrong direction reupload your save and the. Rotate that foundation 90 degrees till its facing the right way and the. Respawn your shape

  • @hans-peteruetlisberger1092

    I personally like the idea of having smaller factories around the map that are producing the basic stuff like plates, rods, wire, etc. and I would transport these items back to base to assemble the parts with the other parts that are coming in. So I would have a main base where I had all of the assemblers and manufacturers and all of the constructer stuff outside the main base. And because I don't like the overflowing method so much I would build many factories around the map and load balance them in the main base. But after seeing your video I think it's actually not important to do a load balance system. Thank you very much for the great Tips!👌

    I like this design a lot. I've played a lot of Factorio and this seems like the kind of design I'd want - expandable and not crowded. I'm on my second playthrough right now and did a main bus where all the conveyors are stacked in a single row. It's a little unwieldy and hard to remember where stuff is. This achieves the kind of expandability I am going for.

    RG_Sha, your base makes me jealous. My base is exactly where you started in, but its sprawling without direction. Seeing your base and video gave me plenty of ideas so thank you! So how do you plan out your production? Do you plan it around the maximum amount of resources your current belt can move, or do you just make a temporary factory to unlock all the current milestones before you build your factory proper? Thanks for you videos! Have a good day!

    • @RGSha
      @RGSha  Před 4 lety +4

      It depends on how far you want to take the planing. Some people like to just wing it and over produce lower tier to meet demand for higher. If your the kind of person that likes to min/max then there are a few sites you can use to tell you every thing you need to make X amount of an items a min. This is a good site satisfactory-calculator.com/en/production-planner. For the build shown in the video I was going for expendable with out knowing what would be needed later. IE: I can always add more to an array, if the array is maxed by belt limitation then I can just add another array further down the buss. There are even a few lines on the buss that feed backwards (or both directions) to consumers. As far as unlocking recipes there are a few rules I use. I only make a few screws in the early game and rush any recipes to stop using them ASAP. Screws are bad and most will say you should never make them. I do spend the first 10-20 hours collecting hard drives to get most the recipes. Once I have them I do a basic layout of what will be where and leave space for "array" (a line of machines). I might just put one machine down to designate what each array is for. I try to do them in a logical-ish order/groupings. I hope that gives you a little insight as to how I play. Hope this helps. Be safe, have fun.

      The new mass disassembly is nice, well better than nothing. Tho taking down 500 smelters with 1000 storage containers, 1500 mergers/splinters and miles of conveyors still takes hours to remove... lol (I had to use mods the last time and it still took a few days). Making an OCD base can take a lot of work.

    You have to watch when you clip a spliter or merger on the belts. It cuts the belt and you get a hacked up belt as seen on the quartz when you removed the spliter, it will cause lag and hang ups as items sit there and spin. Sometimes you have to lay a clean line when removing them.

    Hey, considering your expendable steel-pipe production (or maybe screws or a similar item hoarding belt speed, there will come a time, where you will have to branch off the belt to avoid lag or jamming, if the production is above MK5 belt speed.
    Nevertheless, very useful idea with the centralised bus, I still have chaotic spagetty style, but I know where everything is. In time, I will have to possible move my base to a better and centralised location on the map and bring all the produce there.

Wanted to ask you. 3 years passed and may be you figured out how to improve this design with verticality? It would be nice to be able to build several different production zones one on top of another in order to save on space and materials to build. It should be some kind of horizontal and vertical bus.

  • @Aztazm
    @Aztazm Před 4 lety +1

    The concept I'm struggling with is maintaining source output levels with what you need. From what I can understand a bus is just an overflow method, you can perfectly distribute resources, because you're just pulling them off.. You're bound by the speed of your belts. Second question, at what stage in game would you start setting up a bus?

    • @niclee1863
      @niclee1863 Před 3 lety

      Generally when you have unlocked everything and know what you need to make. The problem with this system is when you didn’t produce enough of a tier 1 item, and you insert it right at the end of the bus where you have space you then only use it downstream of that point, unless you go crazy and make the bus run in two directions. Classic factorio problem if you think too small at the start/don’t know how big you need to build.

    How do you get items off the lowermost belt on the outside lane of the bus? You can't put a conveyor lift onto a splitter in that position if there is a belt on lane 2 because the 8x4 foundation under the ramp to the outside gets in the way.

    • @RGSha
      @RGSha  Před 4 lety

      I try not to use those 2 lines. I used them at the start of the bus and wen on the inside with the lifts. IE up and over. It was lower before the update last week. They improved the fps a lot in that patch. Like 20-30% more FPS on larger factories. I only have a 1060 with an 8 core fx-9590 (AMD).
