This is great! I had tried this once on a hobonichi but the fabric didnt take and so promptly forgotten about it. But you are right! The PU is perfect for this!! Great idea!!
Oh yeah I could see a fabric cover not being great for the adhesive vinyl but this totally worked. So glad you stopped by!

Does it affect the lay flat?
So here's the deal, I don't think so but maybe a tiny bit?
I didn't originally see how lay flat the notebooks were before wrapping them in vinyl, so I don't know if they were any stiffer than they originally were. But I did have to open and press on the smaller notebook to train it and then it was perfectly lay flat. Sometimes you have to do that anyway so I don't know if the vinyl added to it or not. The larger one laid flat immediately no problem. Vinyl is so thin that I don't think it will really affect it that much. Either way, the books laid flat with minimal to no training at all.
