  • On the Isle of Man while others are celebrating Halloween, they are celebrating 'Hop-Tu- Naa', which is an old Celtic festival predating Halloween. Modern Hop-tu-Naa children dress up and go from house to house with the hope of being given sweets or money. The children carry carved turnip lanterns rather than pumpkins and sing Hop-tu-naa songs, of which there are several different versions. The Manx name for a turnip ( swede in England ) is a moot. This video represents my memories of Hop-Tu-Naa in the 1950's.
