    I love how amazing these were to me as a child with imagination in the 80’s we had such open and honest hearts ❤no electronics just fun dreams and shows with music and imagination. 🎉RIP Shelley Duval who was not afraid of her own issues and created brilliant programs able to relate and reach out to our generation. 😊she will be truly missed 😢

    I love this story. Shelley is extra cute as The Nightingale, and her narration in combination with the music are trance inducing and euphoric.

      I was too young to know the name of this series or remember anything happening in it.
      but I know I used to be very scared while watching 😄
      it is only a week ago that I found out the name of this series is Faerie Tale Theatre and seeing the quality of the cinematography, I would say this is The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings of the small screen. 👍

      @@shatnermohanty6678 no I didn't watch this series on Doordarshan. When I was little there was a video library close to where I lived and I often rented this series on Video cassette. • @MelodyJoy7813
      @MelodyJoy7813 Před 5 lety +10

      Oh yeah I definitely noticed that too and when I watched it as a kid I remember being a little surprised by that but now I'm older it's a bit cringe worthy. However I try to remember these were created back in the 80s before anyone gave any shits about diversity and representation so like, it feels easier to forgive the whitewashing in this than in something more current. This is by no means an excuse but it's important to consider the context in which things were created even when judging it with a modern lens. If you look at Fairy Tale Theatre as a whole there is (some) diversity and considering how intrinsically sexist fairy tales are, a surprising amount of feminism.

    • @MelodyJoy7813
      @MelodyJoy7813 Před 5 lety +5

      But also, don't get me wrong, not just the whitewashing but also the unapologetic stereotyping is a bit painful.

East Asian people were good enough to animate a lot of your cartoon shows, but weren't good enough to star in your show? Faerie Tale Theatre should be ashamed of themselves.

      I mean you don't have to not show it to them just because of that. Use it as a teaching opportunity. Explain to them how the 80s were a different time and that was acceptable then even though it's not acceptable now. I don't know how old they are but if you treat your kids like smart adults, they'll grow up to be smart adults.
