Professional players can get a fresh pair of boots every game, if they like. Amateur players will play with the same pair of boots until they fall apart. It's also common for a bit of a walk from changing rooms to pitches, so the studs can get worn down and/or sharpened. More than once, i've had to tell a player he cannot play with the boots he had after doing an inspection like this.
