- Even before we moved into the van, finding hidden gems and places off the beaten path has been our specialty. This first month was everything we wished it would be, but now that we've made it to warmer weather, we still have a bit more work to do....

We are Linnea and Akela. In May, 2020 I purchased our 2016 Ram ProMaster, Togo, to become our full-time home. With this van build, I am using my stubbornness and drive to show individuals that they, too, can convert a campervan BY THEMSELVES and ON A BUDGET, with a lot of learning, rolling up the sleeves, and getting to work.
Our goal is to inspire individuals to chase their dreams... to break from societal limitations and live the life they truly desire. And, to GET OUTSIDE!

Other than dogs, baby goats are my favorite animals. The way they jump around and make the cutest noises 😍

I binged watched your entire build (something I rarely do) ....You popped up in my feed because of your diesel heater video and I backtracked through your videos from there. With the exception of a couple of necessary assists. I watched you do the entire build.... all by yourself. I learned more than a few things...
(rivnut tool is a must and definitely won't go with vinyl stick flooring to name a few) With very impressive high quality fit and finish. I absolutely loved Natural Bridges, went there so long ago. We were able to throw my sweetest Schnauzer girl Shayna in a backpack and explore the ruins, there were so many amazing glyphs down there and there was absolutely no other people there. Truly a magical place 🌞💯
Get one of the gps apps like tomtom that let you download the complete region map so you have gps when no signal

Sounds like Akela was having could have been experiencing a heart arrhythmia. Talk to your vet about cardiomyopathy. When my dog was alive she had a few episodes of syncope and it happened in very cold weather or really hot weather or with lots of exercise. It was scary because I didn’t know what was wrong with her. After a very scary episode where I thought she was going to die I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with arrhythmic ventricular cardiomyopathy. Wishing you and Akela happy, safe and healthy adventuring all the way from Juneau, Alaska. You two should drive up to the southeast. Lots of adventuring here!
For remote locations with no cell service, there is a little unit that Garmin makes which works by satellite. It allows you to text out and send emergency signal if necessary. It gives your location coordinates so rescue can find you if you're stranded. It's around $300 Canadian (where I'm located). The unit is super tiny and would be perfect for you with all your epic adventures 😀

I had a dog have the same symptoms after eating compost which contains fungi....definitely could have been mushrooms.......you can induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide if you know your dog eats something toxic.

Found your channel a couple of days ago and got addicted to it immediately. Van life is so exciting and I can just dream about this life style. New subscriber here, I'm a solo traveller from the UK with a dog so love this kind of thing. Glad Akela made a quick recovery, it's scary when they get sick away in the van.
A lil tip if your preparing for van life is this: measure out the size of your van with duck tap or something, try to only use that space for a few weeks (Make your measurements a bit smaller than it will actually be) If you cant survive that, mabye re think what your doing. Having a companion is so awesome, I couldn't survive without my fluffy boi by my side every day. Also a tip for your drinks, to save milk and energy is don't boil your water all the way. I use this all the time when I make hot chocolate, it saves me milk and electricity.

Omg my white gsd does that nibbling thing when he plays!!! I've never known another dog do it! He usually does it to a blanket or duvet I'm under if I'm playing with him 😍
We have also had this happen twice with our dogs, both at lakes and forest camping. At one point it got pretty bad but because we were so remote we had no reception. When we did get through to emergency vet, they told us that by time we were able to get to the vet the dogs may be dead which was extremely upsetting. Like you, we stayed up all night and they eventually came right luckily! There is a medication you can get called hydrogen peroxide 3 percent solution that induces vomiting and we not keep this in our dog emergency kit incase anything is ingested.
Glad to see she made a quick recovery!

I love your vibe and I think you're one of the handful youtubers who are genuine and not about the "picture perfect" van life they try to show us. it doesn't hurt that you have soothing music compared to others who destroy my eardrums on their intro alone. keep safe and happy with your fur baby. i miss my own fur baby, kiwi who passed away when i joined the ship i worked on 3 years ago.. So true about our dogs being people. I was on a Mt bike ride today on a narrow two way track so you warn on coming cyclists how many of you together and I automatically called out two more people! When actually it was just my husband and our dog, lol.

Your build videos have always stood out for their video craftsmanship, truth, and humor, but this was just so much fun, perhaps due to the time you had to put into the camera work, editing, and music. If someone had smoked there and dropped a roach, that could happen to a dog. I took my dog out once and someone dropped one and my dog got to it. It was the scariest experience ever. I’m glad she’s okay.
With that bad phone service you can still use Google Maps to find your way around. If you go into the setting of Google Maps you will find that you can download the map and save it. You just have to select the area you are interested in and it'll be saved ready.
There are other map apps you can use that also allow you to save part of the map.
The only problem is knowing exactly where you are. Which is what GPS is made for. Or just pay attention to the details on the map and the details around you and you should know where on the map you are.

PS: I got me a 4 month old white German Shepard when I found out I had Cancer at 24 with a 50/50 chance of living. The dog was really a positive part of my life at that time and I beat the Cancer. Didn't come back. :)

I'm watching this months later, just a comment about your moment of fear, and I'm sure you've had others. I think confidence can often be one of the best forms of protection. Not just confidence in going all ninja warrior with an axe as a last resort, but confidence in your intuition, confidence in your gorgeous dog's instincts, confidence that you're as prepared as you can be for anything. I am so loving watching your incredible journey. One day I truly believe that I will head out on the road with at least one of my dogs. I also enjoy solitude a great deal, find being out in nature the best therapy available, and prefer dogs to people most of the time, lol! Keep journeying, keep discovering yourself, and, if you choose to, I hope you keep sharing this journey with us xx

I really like your channel, I wish you would post more videos. Akela has a very good mom and that makes me happy. I'm glad that you think about your safety, a lot of other young women who travel a lot and don't seem to be concerned about their safety.
My pup did that when she got into my weed stash, she was literally a puppy. I was freaking out then k called the vet to see what it could be and she said the same, that her dog did that too when she got into weed lol so it could possibly be the mushrooms 🤣 Poor Akela went to Pluto that night lmao
I've been fully enjoying your van-build series. My wife and I drove across country from California to Maryland to buy our 2019 Dodge Promaster 136. As we have been building out our van we have followed, and enjoyed your series. It seems so many times you were just ahead of us, and your can do attitude really helped us just go for it many times. Thanks so much for showing your trials and errors, and always successes.

I have downloaded local maps in google maps when I know cell phone will be spotty. I have also have seen people use WeBoost for cell signal. While up in Natural Bridge I hope you got to see some weird stuff like Mark Clines weird sculptures.

I agree with some other people who commented that it's a good idea to have the conventional GPS on hand, too.
I use my iPhone all the time but I still keep my old Garmin in my truck.
Ive seen dogs do that. I think its something unseen and unknown to the dog and scares them cause they dont know how to react to it or if its dangerous and being trapped in a van unable to run is scary. I saw a guys build where it had cams on all sides and top with a split screen tv to monitor all on the screen and phone capability so he could see all around from the inside. Might research that if you stay in these places.

Girl you gotta get a Gaia GPS subscription!!! You can download maps of so many varieties (even for cell phone service coverage). It’s a major game changer. My subscription is paid for by my work now but I paid for it before then and it is 200% worth it.
So thankful I found your channel!!!! Getting my van in the late summer, saving like crazy to be able to get my van.... so I’ll have very low monthly payments... while putting away more money to build out the van! You have taught me so much and you make everything seem possible!!!! Being a senior with a few health ailments it may take me longer, but now with being in quarantine for over a year, I so need to get out and about and live ‘my’ life! I’ve been working the Internet for months just trying to find my van, then on with my build! It won’t be fancy as yours, but it will be perfect for me. Can’t wait to spend quality time with my youngest grandchild....it’s been way tooooo long not seeing him!!!!
