I'm a Finn and if my country doesn't win I hope all the best to my neighbor country Sweden. Switzerland however had a very good team and it wouldn't have been wrong if you guys had won! Even though they lost I have to say that I'm still very proud of Switzerland. Beating Finland and Canada and coming so close to beating Sweden as well. But to be honest though, Sweden was the better team. Maybe next time, Switzerland, when you're in the final, you'll be the champions. Like they say: third time's the charm. I'm sure your time will come someday, like it did for us Finns and Slovaks.
And grattis, Sverige! It's quite an achievement, not only winning gold, but also winning every single game of the tournament that is. See you both in Slovakia next year.

Swedish media was all like "oh, this will be so easy, what a boring final" before the game. Thanks for proving them wrong and making us sit on the edge of our seat. Switzerland has definitely proven they deserve to be taken seriously.
The swiss team is a perfect example of that the product can be greater than the sum of its components: great teamplay has makes the team a force to be reckoned with, beating both the unstoppable finland, and even canada in the finals, sweden only narrowly escaped defeat.. well played switzerland! Well, I can´t believe that I am writing this, but honestly congratulations Sweden. The Swedish Ice Hockey Team played a great game against the Swiss Ice Hockey Team, which played too a great game and great ice hockey. It was commonly a great and an exiting final game with great ice hockey. Its funmy how all Canadians say ”uhhh if we had our best players from nhl we would win easy” do you really think you are the only with alot of players in nhl. I heard someone say before that Canada couldve put up even 2 teams and still win the majority of thier games and guess what so can the other nations too. This year Sweden used thier youngest team since 96 they couldve made another team with the nhl seniors, can even argue if they are better then the team sweden used this championship.
Just accept the truth Canada.
And to those Canadians who say that IIHF championship isnt important for them . Than why is there hundreds of Canadians there in Denmark to watch did they just happend to walk by? No, they took the plane all across from Canada to europe to watch thier team geting embarased by Switzerland.

You're the one who should embrace the truth. Canada could put together 10+ teams of NHL players and still beat most countries on paper. This year, from the current team Canada, only player to make the best team Canada for certain is Connor McDavid. Ekblad is a maybe. Barzal had a terrific rookie season, but he probably would have to make way for more experienced players. A lot of the players in this year's team would not even make it in the 2nd best team Canada.
And yeah, pretty much every team is missing a lot of key players. But Canada is definitely missing more good players than any other country. They only got 1 super star forward on their team this year, even though they have so many of them in the NHL.

See for yourself. You can filter by country and see what each country's best players did. Canada has the most good players by far, no question.
For example, looking at 30 or more points skaters:Canada 114, Czech Republic 8, Finland 12, Sweden 33, USA 73, Russia 14, Denmark 5, Switzerland 5
Yes but for you isn t the last discussion! Much people don t know abaout this statistics. Hockey is a random sport. It is better when nations like canada plays year for year a decent WHC.

Filip S But it is not "amazing" for Sweden to be in the final. It was just expected. Team Sweden roster on paper is the best in the tournament. Switzerland is a surprise, and they were also missing some of their best players. Canada has the most good players, but they are not playing in the worlds. Just look at their goalies. Backup or AHL goalies basically.
If you look at the link in my earlier comment, with the best canadian scorers, see how practically none of them are playing for team canada in this tournament? If you follow the biggest north american sports medias, this tournament had barely any coverage. This is not a big deal in North-America.

Epic game and an interesting season in Europe. The Swiss should be proud, even though that shootout loss was a bitter end! Switzerland played another solid defensive game, not giving their opponents any free space to catch rebounds or other easy goals. Also produced dangerous counter attacks and had guts to play in the offensive zone (when they had the chance to do so). However Sweden is the worthy winner. They were the better team and did a strong comeback in the shootout.
Both teams did a great job and played a better final than in 2013! Great to see some progression. Always more fun with close games. Germany and Switzerland making it to two big finals this year, must be against most odds, but this is awesome for European hockey! Im already looking forward to next season! Champions Hockey League kicking off in August I think, so not long left hehe!!

Havent seen a team increase their preformance in less than 10 years so consistantly. You kept the tourneys best chasing the tie the entire game and almost had it before overtime.

Vi höll även på att vinna i Sudden. Om du kan din hockeyhistoria så vet du att 9/10 faktiskt är ganska korrekt. Bara 5 år sedan våldtog Sverige Schweiz i finalen med 5-1. Denna matchen blev jämn eftersom Schweiz hade sin bästa turnering någonsin, genom att bland annat slå Finland och Kanada. Dock är Sverige, som världens bästa hockeynation, för bra.
Great game, the first and especially the second period was very intense and fun to watch.I also dislike the shootouts, would have prefered the kept on playing. Switzerland has shown the world that they are team that can beat anyone, Sweden has a young team with players who will be performing well for a long time in the future.

Still, huge codus to schweiz, they're a small country such as ours and I've never seen icehockey-fans be malicious, even back in 2006 when I was in Angelberg-Swizzland a lone Fin was boasting the finnish wins against sweden, that lone Fin also stod up and applauded when sweden won, which made the (majority) swedes and people at the bar in Switzerland roar with respect. It's easy to cheer for your own team, it's even easier to jeer for a foreign team, but it truly takes respect and effort to admit when someone beat you fair and square.

Switzerland was better during the first 60 minutes of hockey - but the overtime Sweden had all puck possession and momentum + two hits off the goal post... The shootout could have gone either way.
All in all - Switzerland you should be proud. You performed very well, and ALMOST beat us. Keep on trucking, and see you all next in next years IIHF World Championship!

Sverige spelade långa stunder i väldigt lågt tempo och schweizarna hade ganska mycket puck... Det såg knappast stabilt ut i Sverige, om jag ska uttrycka mig milt... Men i förlängningen tyckte jag inte det var något snack! Sverige tog över och fixade också straffläggningen, vilket kändes välförtjänt!
