Gabhaim Molta Bride - Celtic Hymn for St. Brigid

- This beautiful hymn for Brighid is companying me for quite a while. The celtic goddess and the saint are for me tightly woven with each other. To record this song is an old wish of mine. But on Imbolc 2018 I had the idea to find a new melody and not to sing it with the traditional melody I already knew. Quickly the second and third voices came along, too. ~*~

Liedtext / Lyrics
Gabhaim molta Bríde,
Ionmhain i le hEirinn,
Ionmhain le gach tir i
Molaimis go léir i.
Lóchrann geal na Laighneach
A’ soilsiú feadh na tire,
Ceann ar óoghaibh Éireann
Ceann na mban ar mine.
Tig an eimhreadh dian dubh
'Ggearradh lena ghéire
Ach ar lá ’le Bríde
Gar dúinn earrach Éireann.
English Translation
I pay homage to Saint Brigid
Beloved in Ireland,
Beloved in all countries,
Let us all praise her.
The bright torch of Leinster
Shining throughout the country.
The pride of Irish youth
The pride of our gentle women.
The house of winter is very dark
Cutting with its sharpness.
But on Saint Brigid's Day
Spring is near to Ireland.
Deutsche Übersetzung
Ich ehre die Heilige Brighid,
geliebt in Irland,
geliebt in allen Ländern,
Lasst uns sie lobpreisen
Die helle Fackel von Leinster
Strahlt im ganzen Land
Stolz der irischen Jugend
Stolz unserer sanftmütigen Frauen
Das Haus des Winters ist sehr dunkel
Schneidend mit seiner Schärfe
Aber am Tag der Heiligen Brighid
Naht der Frühling in Irland
