In this video I show you how you can use all 3 available input output USB channels on the Rodecaster Pro 2 to effectively manage audio for Ecamm Live, Zoom and your system Audio. With this new triple i/o feature of Rodecaster Pro ii we can really do some pretty complex audio routing and for many people, applications like Loopback or Black hole will be completely unnecessary for working with Ecamm and Zoom.
Got to say a huge thank you to @rodemic for giving us these the separate channels over USB! It gives such awesome flexibility for more complex audio routing!
My settings are as follows:
In Ecamm Preferences Audio tab:
1.) Check the option: "Map Input Channels 1 & 2 to Left and Right Stereo"
2.) Set "Broadcast System Audio" to "Never"
Then set the following as you input/outputs.
1.) Ecamm Live input/output = Rodecaster Pro II Chat
2.) Zoom Input / Output = Rodecaster Pro II Secondary
3.) System Audio Output - Rodecaster Pro II Main
I've got to give a shout out to @rabbidavid .... I'll be honest, I'd stopped at the first two! Routing the Mac system audio to that third (spare) i/o has really made this the perfect setup.... thanks David!

Thank you so much for the videos on using the Rodecaster Pro 2. Since I watched them, I no longer have issues and everything is working great like the Rodecaster 1 did! Should I uninstall Loopback? Would I ever have a reason to need it? Thanks.
Thanks for the review
-- & education ... I've heard the term "Mix Minus" but until now
-- I didn't know, or was not clear on the description, use case
- Now all I have to do is wait 6 month to see if the RCP-2 or 3 is under the tree
Thanks and take care
G Albert
Glad it was helpful Albert!
Hey Alec! Great stuff. So I’m using about the system audio function in ecamm. I use that now to get my music from the stream deck on to my lives and recorded videos. I also have a separate mic in loop-back for this program. If I setup the RCP2 with two cables the way you have here then I should be able to eliminate loopback as well as not rely on ecamm broadcasting system audio in order for the music from my streamdeck to be heard?
That is correct, India! Your sound effects from StreamDeck would play out over system audio, into the RCP2 and then you would be able to set the levels of those sound effects in the mix that is going back into Ecamm for your livestream / recording. :-)
WOW Rob, I think you saved me hours of headaches. THANK YOU!!! I need some clarity. How do I get the sound effects from the pads to come through on ZOOM? Every time I try, I hear it on my head set but no the participants. Thank you
Was thinking that too.
Great content as usual! Would love to see you demo Host+Guest while screensharing a browser that is playing a CZcams video (or some other video) - with audio that all can hear. I can’t seem to get this working without my guest sounding like he’s in an echo chamber. Sadly, enabling “echo cancellation” seems to drop the audio of the screen share from reaching the guest or final recording. Anyway, great content. Thank you!
Are the settings the same for the rodecaster duo?
Alec, just got my RCP 2 and it appears that now you CAN configure Main as Mix Minus? Did this happen via software update after you produced the video?
Great stuff! Is there a way to bring just music into RCPII and not the entire system audio?
Hi Robert. There are a number of ways to bring music into the Rodecaster Pro 2... Specifically in the setup that I have outlined in this video there are a few options:
1.) Play music on the computer over system audio and ensure that notifications and other sounds were switched off.
2.) Add the music into Ecamm Live and play it from there.
3.) Connect the computer to the Rodecaster over bluetooth and play the music in that way - You would then have separate control over the music volume in the mix.
4.) Play music from an external device over bluetooth, again giving that control over the audio levels separate to other things in the mix.
Is there a way to record two sides of an interview separately over Zoom? Or do you need to use the interview function of Ecamm Live to do that?
Thank you so much for the breakdown Alec! Can any of this be done with the original Rodecaster Pro 1 or is it only II?
I also have the Rodecaster 1, does that work (with MacMini M1)
I use streamyard,
if your settings are as follows woud the following be correct?
Then set the following as you input/outputs.
1.) Streamyard input/output = Rodecaster Pro II Chat (this means the streamyard guests or on this channel?)
2.) Zoom Input / Output = Rodecaster Pro II Secondary (not needed for my use)
3.) System Audio Output - Rodecaster Pro II Main (this means if i play a youtube video on stream the audio is on this channel?)
so my mic input is channel 1 (echo cancellation off in streamyard)
streamyard input output is on chat channel 2 (mix minus selected)
system audio for youtube video play or any system audio play on channel 3 (mix minus selected)
would this be correct?
Great vide! Question: would people in Zoom here audio effects from ecamm in this setup?
Thanks Markus! Yes, indeed, the Zoom participants would still hear the full mix from the Rodecaster including the Ecamm Sound Effects.
Do you think this setup would still be the best scenario if Rode did a firmware update that added the mix minus function to the Rodecaster Main?
Hey Rob, the important thing in this setup is that the Input/put channels used for both Ecamm and Zoom have Mix minus enabled, and you could easily switch the Ecamm to the Secondary and Zoom to the Chat channel.... it's just that they need the mix minus. So, If Rode were to enable mix minus in the Main channel, then yes, you could then just use that one instead. There is still value in having the system audio separate though, and that doe not necessarily have to be mix minus, because in this scenario it is really only one way into the Rodecaster for System Audio. Hope that helps!
Hey Alec. Great video. Just wonder if you have your earplugs also connected to the roadcaster?
Hey Juergen, I do indeed have my headphones plugged into the Headphone 1 socket on the back of the RCP2. :-)
@@TakeOneTech Is there anyway we can have solo mic input sound in both earbuds instead of 1?
I bought the rode caster duo, Feelworld L2 and 3 cameras. Please walk me through the settings

Hello I would like to mention that I am one of your fans and I am always happy with your tutorials but I would like to ask you if it’s possible to connect the mobile and laptop on the new Rode podcast pro 2? How to connect it with clubhouse App? Thank you and waiting for your reply
Thank you! I'm glad you like my videos! There are two ways you can connect a phone to the RCP2... either use the secondary USB cabe and have that plugged into your phone or tablet. The other option would be to connect over Bluetooth. Both of these methods would work with Clubhouse or indeed any third part voice app on the mobile device.
I'll be making a video about this too!
I have the Rodecaster 1 (Only one USB-C), does that work (with MacMini M1) )
Hello, will I have a separated track in the sd card with the zoom remote audio only?
Yes, if you recorded to your Rodecaster and you have your Zoom on a separate Rodecaster Channel to Ecamm, then as long as you have 'Multi-Track recording' turned on on the Rodecaster, the Zoom track will be separate. (as well as in the full combined mix)
How do you route the sound effects pads so your zoom callers can hear those as well?
Copied from a different response by @TakeOneTech: It is likely Zooms background noise suppression feature that helps most people but blocks out all except your voice when using the RCP…. This short video explains how to fix this:

Help Needed: I have the Rode Pro 2 and I am joining a zoom session, but the participants in the zoom cannot hear any music played from my phone or any of the sound effects from the RODE Pad. Anyone have any ideas why this would be happening, and how to fix it.

I understand the reason for using mix minus for the Zoom call but I'm not sure why you need to send a mix minus signal to ECamm live. My setup is to send my computer sound output to the RCP2 via Main where it gets mixed with everything else and then goes into ECamm. The Zoom input and output are set to Chat. Thus I don't need the second USB cable that has the Secondary channel. I don't see a way for Main to have a loopback because there is no loop here (computer sound --> Main In --> RCP2 mix --> Main Out --> ECamm live). Also, I'm not using ECamm to generate any sounds, but even then it seems like ECamm would route those sounds to Main and then get them back from Main for recording or streaming (without a loopback). Am I missing something?
Let's assume that at a minimum you are feeding the Rodecaster Pro 2 mix INTO Ecamm, because you are using you microphone, maybe the smart pads' audio, also your Zoom call etc... In this case, you are correct, no mix minus require.
However, if there is any audio coming out of Ecamm Live, either on the interview mode channel, sound effects channel etc... Then this would be feeding OUT of Ecamm, INTO the RCP2 and then feeding back INTO Ecamm's Mic channel. It will lead to slap back in Ecamm if you are either recording or streaming.
So if you are not using interview mode/sound effect/music within Ecamm Live itself, no need for mix minus, otherwise it is necessary. Hope that helps, but let me know if anything is still unclear. 🙏😊
@@TakeOneTech That makes sense, thanks.
FYI, your audio level is too low. I have maximized my speakers volume and while I can hear you... it is difficult especially as your speech cadence is fast. However, the demo and content is well done and appreciated. Regards.
Thanks Craig, I really appreciate the feed back, although I'm not noticing low volume when I play back the video on CZcams myself... I have posted an entire video with no audio before, so it is not beyond me to screw up like that! 😂😂. However it's sounding ok for me, so I'm not I'm not sure what is happening this time Thanks again for letting know though and the feedback in general!
If only they would add the ability to jam sync time code… this thing would be perfect.
