FULL LECHON IN VINALES
1. BATEY LOS LORENZOS (Family house)
ADDRESS: Vinales, Cuba
🐖CUBA LECHON ASADO: Clean and cut the pig, then place it on a hammock. In each pocket of the pig, add seasoning (garlic, onion, cumin, calamondin and lime). Add salt in each pocket as well as on the skin. Place pig over an open fire and cover it with banana leaves for 3 hours. After 3 hours, flip the pig on the hammock and cook for one more hour.
🍚CONGRI (Cuban Black Beans and Rice): In a big pot, add the dried black beans, water and bring it to a boil. In a separate bowl, mash garlic, cachucha pepper, cilantro and onion together. Add the spices/seasoning to the boiling water with the beans, then add white rice. Add pork fat and grease to the pot, mix and then allow to cook until water is absorbed.
🇨🇺MALANGA (Fried Taro Chips): Peel the taro. Slice into circular shaped chips and fry in pork grease. Top with salt.
🍌PLANTAIN (Fried Plantain Chips): In a pan, add pork grease and bring to a boil. Slice the plantain and fry.
🇨🇺YUCCA (Boiled Yucca/Cassava): Peel the yucca potatoes. Chop into large pieces and boil in water (no seasoning). Wait 20 minutes or so until cooked.
☕CAFÉ CUBANO (Cuban Coffee): Pick the beans from the tree. Lay the beans out on a large tarp and allow them to sit in the sun and dry. Mash the beans in a wooden bowl to remove the shells. Roast and grind the beans. Pour the ground beans into hot water and bring it to a boil. Pour the coffee into the filter.

Tobacco part was the most underrated IMO. Especially for us Cuban cigar aficionados. That was the purest, most organic and direct from the source you can ever get. I envy sonny and oro. I envy all those precious time they had that fresh hand-rolled beauty in their mouths. Around 2 seconds total. Lol

I didn't know you could just twist up a cigar! You always hear about these cigar factories, they have molds to make the shape, I don't know any details. I was really surprised! I've always imagined that people who smoke strong tobacco and drink strong coffee a dozen times a day must be kind of leathery, or preserved or something. Like if you die you won't spoil right away.... I've been drinking Cuban coffee my whole life, and would really like to see how it is IN CUBA! The BEFR show is kind of weak on coffee and tea I always think, I don't think Sonny cares for it.
@@leonardpearlman4017 the molds are to maintain quality assurance/consistency. no one wants a jagged looking cigar when theyre spending $10-15 for one. they also need to be packaged consistently. also they can alter how the cigar is smoked and make for a better experience overall. end of the day its all just tobacco leaves burning.

Seeing this reminds me so much of my home I miss so much, I come from the same province of Viñales and I remember the beautiful mountains and scenery, the people you were with and the house remind me so much of my own family and it's incredible seeing the food I eat all the time on your channel, lechón is my favorite and it looked so good here

Love your channel, I think I've watched almost every video.
This one made me nostalgic, I was born in Puerto Rico but grew up in continental USA, been living in FL since I was a teenager, before that lived in NJ.
This video reminded me of my childhood, when I was about 4 years old, my grandparents had farms and grew coffee, tobacco, bananas, vegetables, etc.
My dad past away almost 2 years ago but he used to raise pigs and cook them pretty much the same way, he past away the same week of hurricane Maria, he left us way too young.
My grandma made the best coffee evaaa, she put coffee on boiling water and then strained it, my dad would go milk one of the cows, boil the milk, strain it and that was the best coffee I've ever had. Even when I visited as a teen, my dad would indulge me and go milk a cow lol he was awesome.
In a way I'm sad to see that a lot of places in Cuba are so far behind in time due to the comunist government. I have Cuban family and I'm grateful they left Cuba and came to the US to have a better life.

It's very very different than what you get in the USA I believe what they sell in the USA has less quality or something. I remember while in the Dominican Republic you could smell someone was making coffee without entering the house and it was a good smell.

I’m Cuban. Love that Sonny has been there and could taste our typical food. People from Pinar del Rio are so kind and special! Mountains have a characteristic shape there in Viñales. I am very excited right now watching this. I can’t go back there any more but at least I have my memories and, regarding the food, I cook for myself and also have plenty of Cuban restaurants where I live. 😃
