  • The tank was leaking from the bottom seam, so we cut it off, and then put it back on. We have five tanks to repair, ( the manufacturer had a bad batch)

Bit of friendly advice. Invest in a cheap pair of suction cups so you could place the glass gently down instead of letting it hit the top, but first, you'll get a better more professional look if you were to have applied tape all around the perimeter of the outsides of the glass so when you pull off the tape you will have a cleaner silicone finish. When you spread the silicone with your finger wear latex gloves while dipping your finger in the water smoothing the silicone bead, why? Water repels silicone, you will achieve a clear smooth professional finish.

@basstracker06 Sorry for the delay, you take a knife or a razor knife to cut the silicon holding the trim in place, I think the first video in this series shows how we get the trim off.

First, be careful, we do not want to lose any of our viewers, your LFS should be able to get trim from there tank supplier.

Thanks for the cool video - I always wondered how to do that.
On a side note, it might be entertaining to show your son how to put dreadlocks in his hair using silicon cement... maybe he'd "stick" around more when you need him! ;0) My son's exactly the same, sigh...

Hoping you could please advise. I have a heavy 6' long 100 gallon that the previous owner tore apart and didn't level or align when he rebuilt. Also he destroyed both top and bottom rim, so I'll be having to buy new ones. Can I take the tank apart without flipping it, I don't have people here to help flip. Also can I rebuild it on the new bottom frame when I get the bottom in?

You would need to make a frame to hold the tank together where they joined, any of the trim for tanks that you could get would not be strong enough, I would suggest galvanized steel.

Thank you for the vid, now i know what to do, however when i tried to take out the bottom lid with the knife, i sliced out part of the lid, two sides and my hand too. ( I know, you said to be careful).
Are the lids easy to acquire?

@petegrimsby watch some of our other tank repair videos where we patch cracks, we have quite a few posted, then make sure the crack is ended and then silicon glass panels over the crack to seal it. If you phone me 416 743 1289 I can answer any questions. Carl.
