hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover how to sing high notes without straining try Proutklarton Awaken Wish Plan (do a google search )?

I'm a classical singer and you have done a great job explaining this subject David.....I'm in my mid sixties now and have taught for many years..Without a neutral larynx a student can work for years and really go nowhere...You're getting some very valuable information out there for young singers. With this golden info, they can really have a chance to use their voices to totally express themselves and many of them will have the option of choosing singing as a career. Great work!

I'm not sure where you've gotten that information, but I can make the "dopey" sound with my tongue in any position so I'm definitely not using my tongue to depress the larynx. Also, the goal is to completely get rid of the dopey sound over time when singing songs and in exercises, but as an exercise to help learn to keep your larynx in a neutral position I find/found this to be extremely helpful. ...btw, I have a feeling you didn't watch the entire tutorial before posting this comment ;)

It's totally true. It is just a reference of the space that should be kept while singing. That's the easiest part of low larynx singing. The difficult one is to let go of that dopy sound and make it sound natural, as when we speak.

My teacher told me blabla inhale, open mouth, upper teeth over the under teeth to produce this rich sounds typically for classical music. It's not working out that well cause i didn't really know what i was doing. but this video made me really understand what my teacher was trying to teach me. So i think i can improve faster from now on! Thank you and thanks youtube for recommending this to me :D

I started to be able to sing just about any song now that I been doing exercises for about 1 year straight for about 2 hours day. All I have to do is focus on this one spot and I can control my larynx and go super high. I didn't know what the exercises where quite doing tell now. They teach you how to control your larynx and bring your chords together and then apart. Humming is a great way to understand it as well. My friend said to yawn and he helped me figure it out. I then figured out mixed voice soon later. There is this spot that lets you control your larynx which is where you sing. Everyone says sing in the mask but why do you sing in the mask? Resonance but there is more to it. It helps you control the larynx and opens your throat. This is also how I figured out vibrato. I can go up to A5 which is amazing cause I stopped at B4 before I studied the voice in depth.

Great video, David! My questions is- how do you lower/neutralize the larynx without pulling the tongue with it?

Great video. Love the 'dopey' voice idea for keeping the throat open :) Thanks

Neutral larynx means it will move always because that's a neutral phase, but it shouldn't go crazy as if you're doing high notes and your larynx goes up at the bottom of your chin, my question is, i am near to make my larynx fully neutral, but even i reached so far, i noticed when i am singing high notes, my larynx moves a lot, but only small moves. Is that ok?

+grandhawnmeira The short answer is yes. The point of the exercises is to learn to not actively engage muscles that raise the larynx. Slight raising and lowering is of no consequence all other things being equal. The "dopey" sound is something to be careful with by the way..... pushing the larynx down is never a good thing, although even most professionals do it from time to time. Brittney Spears is the only "diva" who does it habitually (the way she sings the verses in "Hit Me Baby One More Time" is a good example of the general wrong way to do it lol) and that was only because her label literally commanded her to do it for the money.
