- Introducing the all-new Discovery Analog Delay by Suhr.
The long-standing mission of Suhr has been to bring the simplicity and tone of analog circuitry to today's guitarist.
The Suhr Discovery Analog Delay is the all-new revolutionary pedal, designed by Kevin Suhr.
Discovery Analog Delay is the first of its kind, for Suhr and the world, retaining the tone, vibe, and creative inspiration of iconic analog delay units, yet adding the versatility of the most modern, expandable pedals available today.
Analog. Evolved.
The warm, rich, unmistakable tone of an all-analog signal path with the control of the most modern, feature-filled pedals of today. Built on 4 reissued versions of the famous MN3005 Bucket Brigade analog delay chips, we sought out to achieve what no other analog delay on the market could, the ability to shape and control your delay in any way you wish. All savable to 127 presets with full MIDI capability and expression pedal mapping for each knob on the Discovery Analog Delay.

I just bought one and it's truly amazing. The filters allow you to dial in your Analog sound perfectly to fit your guitar and amp. The preset function is a great feature as well. The sound quality is studio clear.! Gets and AAA+++ from me, I am going to buy a second one.
It's my finally delay pedal..........if stereo
Thanks, Suhr
Crikey this brings together every feature that I love about my fave delays but that haven’t until now been all in one place!
Same. It's next on my list.
We can talk about the difference between analog and digital but in this case I want to highlight the difference between analog and well-designed and built analog. This delay is tops!
Anolog delay is my favourite of all the delay types. I've got 6, well a couple in digital form. x2 Supro 1313 Aonolog Delay, Way Huge Aqua Puss Mkiii, Boss DM-2w, Wampler Faux Tape Echo v2 and Wampler The Doctor. I've just sold them all and pre ordered this.
I'm not at all worried that I'll regret it, I'll have one unbelievably vertistile high quality delay that i'll get to know incrediblely well and extra cash, win win?
This thing seems unbelievable!
How could a delay pedal get better than this !?
This is quite simply the ultimate!
And OMG it looks fantastic :)
Sorry about the gushing, but I'm blown away. Saw the interview with Pete Thorn last night :)
Oh, analog delay pedals can get waaaay better.
The new Boss one goes well beyond this thing, and it isn't even pushing the envelope much further than a quadded DM-2 that emulates a tape machine w/ tap-tempo and presets. Basically peaking at '90s tech with a bit more speed.
Most analog delay pedals are some variant of a DM-2 or Memory Man. There are WAAAY more circuits than _that_ going around in other formats!
If you want to see and hear some seriously wild and creative delays, look at some of the modular synth delays. A Moog 104 is comparatively basic compared to all but the simplest DIY modules.
Most of the modules enable most of their functions to be put under CV, and further modulate the modulators themselves. A huge % of the effects in pedals and rack gear were first developed in synthesis and broadcasting modules going back to the 1940s -1960s; the range of potions there has been vast for many decades.

I’m not a big analog delay person but you really nailed this one. Nice job!
Stunning looking pedal... So retro! Great features. Amazing sounds. Looks easy to use. I love it.
Wow... a tutorial from the maker that's comprehensive. Nice job. I'm sure there are those who would rather take 18 months to just discover crap by accident or wait for a 12 year old to post an abbreviated version of what you wanted to know. I tip my hat.
Bravo! Looks great!
This pedal looks incredible. 🤯
That looks really cool.
Dear Suhr,
Please continue this journey by creating a multi-modulation pedal with this level of flexibility.
Sincerely,
The Gear Addiction Community
This.
I wanna hear this on some synths
This pedal is amazing! The first pedal I ever bought was a v1 Boss DM-2, which is still on my board and I will never part with. I've owned loads of analog delays, and each has it's own character - mainly from the filtering that's hardwired into the circuit. Making that controllable is genius!!! And it's programmable into 127 presets with modulation, musical self-oscillation, expression pedal assignable to anything and everything, trails mode, tap tempo, midi... a dream come true. I have to get one. Thanks for investing the time to make something this great.
Very impressive!
Kevin, and Suhr company: this is (1) such an excellent video thoroughly showing the capabilities of this product, and (2) wow - this is an AMAZING product! I have not been this excited about a delay pedal before. I am trying to pre-order mine and nobody has them :(
Some Discovery's have been shipped out to dealers, however more are being built and shipped every week. Keep checking in with you local Suhr dealer and you'll find one! Thank you and have a stellar day.
@@SuhrCustom I got lucky and picked one up from @VisionGuitar and the Discovery is awesome and so is Vision Guitar! I love this pedal - the clarity and headroom is just amazing!!
Seriously awesome. User friendly and so versatile. I love simple, turn the knob, type pedals and this nails it. Thanks Kevin and Suhr I will be going bankrupt now 😂
I just bought a Pedal Pawn Gypsy Vibe. This is next on my list. No doubt!
Hallelujah! Lots of Presets!
Full midi control analog delay. Dang. Very, very cool fer Suhr,
Very impressive.
real fancy!
id like to try this on a 2399 + taptempo. the fun part is 'linking' them 😄
I'd love to see a flanger made by Kevin.
I would love a flanger with this level of options
Any BBD circuit seems like he'd have an interesting take. I'd love a chorus.
Nice pedal!
Nice!!
awesome! :)
I hope you can start shipping to Prymaxe. I pre ordered from them last July 2021. :( . And our gig scene here just started to fully open. Perfect time to use it live.
Dope!
MN Reissue Chips like the Panasonic MN3005 chips in the EHX Deluxe Memory Man from the 1870s-80s? Koolio.
This thing is absolutely what I always envisioned would be the next step for analog delays; fully MIDI capable.
My only gripe with it is that I feel that even with the high cut disengaged, it’s still a tad too dark and with it fully open, it’s almost too dark to be really useable. Would’ve loved if the range on it enabled for more high end, regardless of possible noise.
Yeah, cause then it would kick the Ol’d Deluxe memory Man off the board. Still, I’d like to try this against my Memory Lane 2, which is warm yet smooth like this.
Hah, the thing you don't like about this delay (too dark for you even with hi cut off) is exactly what makes it awesome to me. I love darker delays. They don't interfere with the detail of your playing and sit back in the mix, mainly serving as just ambience between notes instead of being an "active component" of whatever you're playing.
So Dod fx90 heavily modified, sounds good!!!
This is the best analog delay pedal on earth.
This thing looks nice is like back from the 70s-80s
yes!
This is probably the best bucket brigade delay ever made. In the running for the best delay pedal ever made period.
rad! 👍
Suhr: it contains a limiter to contain volume
Also Suhr: proceeds to blow my ears and speakers
cool pedal tho
good video! how would it work with an acoustic guitar 🤔
Low and hi cut……thanks !!!
DAMN I already have 2 analog delays. But the ability to set the bpm precisely will make me sell those and buy this one
One of only three companies that I trust to buy before I try. Chase Bliss, Strymon and of course Suhr. If I could legally marry my Strymon Volante, Chase Bliss Automatone and Suhr classic S I would!!! This thing looks sweet.
Yes suhr
Wow
First coment 🔥 Amazing Analog Delay
Kevin, you killed it. I'm blown away by the way it sounds. I love how you designed the mixer section. I must say though that I will miss the preamp in the Deluxe Memory Man. I would be interested to know if you thought about designing some sort of controllable preamp section in your pedal, and if so why you omitted it from the release. Overall I'm still excited to try this pedal! Just my sharing my initial thoughts.
I’ve heard him talk about not adding the preamp. His response was he didn’t want to color the tone. I use a pedal loop switcher. So, I’m happy it doesn’t have a preamp.
Love this. My whole rig is digital. Many think it is because I don’t like analog or tubes. Not true. I just need midi and presets. Love this pedal. Only two downsides. Mono for obvious reasons but not a deal breaker as I can put a stereo pedal like EHX mod Rex after it. Lack of 1/4 triple may be deal breaker as that is necessity for reggae and dub.
Can’t you tap half notes in and fix the quarter note thing?
@@mattflickinger8151 maybe. I sync all to midi clock. I may add a smart clock and that may be able to send different sub divisions per midi channel.
When tapping the tempo is it a smooth transition to the new delay time or is there an audible pitch shifting between taps?
Nightmare... Just when I thought my pedalboard was complete!
I've got this pedal on order and would love to get a 2 button external footswitch for changing pre sets. Question; can anyone recommend one, I'm new to this and if possible a more compact one than he was using in this video?
Please send one to Eric Johnson or Andy Timmons. Im sure theyll love this!
Looks great.
One issue, though: Everything going into it (through it? out of it?) here is distorted by at least 25%.
Other than length of repeats, how am I to determine that this sounds any better than some cheap BBD found in any random knock-off ?
What about its MIDI functionality? I heard this can send MIDI signals to other pedals as well. Is there a software being made for it for ease of programming?
I will gonna wait the original diskobery from joyo
Okay so this pedal is cool and all... but can it bring me back to the future?
no, but it can bring the past back the present… still reminds me of a Delorian!
When!
Why is this not stereo in this day and age?
That would require twice the amount of bbd chips for separate delay lines. Easy for a digital delay, not so much an analog delay. You could do it, but it would be even more expensive than this pedal and possibly larger
@@davetheserious677 Ok. Make sense
Does this pedal do that stereo ping-pong effect? Or is that feature only available in digital pedals?
If this was stereo I’d be all over it. Still sounds lush though. Wish I’d bought the moogerfooger delay b4 they were discontinued. Reverb price setting is a joke. There’s a Klon on there at 5 grand!
It looks as if 127 Presets can be accessed with a Momentary Switch without MIDI? Is this correct? Wow!
I've just received mine, plugged in a footswitch to cycle through pre sets and it does nothing. Any ideas/ help with this? Do I need to go into a menu so it knows its a momentary footwitch?
Thank you!
When self oscillating with the Regen maxed, does the time knob 'step' in 5ms increments instead of smoothly? Thanks
Yes, the Time knob allows jumps by incriments of 5, However, it is very smooth feeling when using the knob to change the speed when occilating. You can also get a very smooth ramp by holding the up or down arrow.
Have you tried putting original chips in there instead of the reissues?
Looks great, but personally I was right with it for the first half, great functionality with a knob or button/led for pretty much anything. But then the way it handles presets, the expression pedal mapping, midi etc just goes into that horrible world of button press memory - just like the Eventide Rose does. I’d like this as a pure WYSIWYG.
I’d have to disagree. It still is WYSIWYG, all expression functions and presets are visible with the Time readout. And the buttons are as simple as you can get for presets. I thought it was pretty intuitive. And, of course, if all you want is WYSIWYG, you can just ignore the presets and use the pedal at face value and still have a killer pedal.
dear suhr
put 2 independent discovery delay units in one pedal
欲しい。
When will this be available in a store near me?
Discovery's have begun to ship to dealers and distributors with more being shipped every week. Reach out to your local Suhr dealer to see when theirs will be arriving or to get on the pre-order list.
@@SuhrCustom Already did… 🤘🏻
@@SuhrCustom Btw… I’m trying to find the dimension (footprint) as I’m redoing my pedalboard again… any chance you could say something about that?
The Suhr logo looks like it belongs to some local chain that sells sub-sandwiches. Suhr Subs To-GO! Actually, it even looks like it says Subs. By the way, I'm a logo designer so ... feel free to reach out? Suhr makes great gear, to be clear.
You're a designer, and yet you think a well-established, respected company is going to change their logo and more or less re-brand? It's a gorgeous logo.. Suhr's branding is top notch.
@@SteveHubbardGuitar I don't think they will. But it looks godawful.
most guitar-related logos are amateurishly wonky, and committing design-malpractice on the reg
because we prefer it that way :O)
The use of a very distorted guitar sound doesn’t really show the basic repeats tone very well.
As much as I like the look and the features I'm not sure about the repeats themselves, they sound kinda flat and indistinct
Umm...ever played a real analog delay before?
@@jcshirke memory man and some of it's clones are brighter and sharper, if still pretty noisy.
some analog delays in other formats sound sweeter and clearer. most pedal analog delays that are not copping a DMM are built around a basic topology similar to a Boss DM (or cheaper) and so are guaranteed to sound rather lo-fi.
The time knob should have been on the right side to be foot twickable...
TAKE MY MONEY!
$1000 here in Oz... dammm
$550 folks
Kemari karena @midiahn
An analog tc electronics nova delay
No stereo in/out = FAIL. For $549.00, I expect stereo inputs and outputs. The original DMM is still king. Btw, what is up with the pickguard on Pete Thorn's new guitar? Was someone drunk or high when they were designing it?
$550 oof
This video works very well as a sleeping pill, and the pricing of the unit is ridiculous.
shut up and take my money!!!
let me guess.. mm 1000 us dollars? Yes..if it says Suhr.. thats for sure.
$549...!? I'll pass.
Shut up take my mone,,,, Oh wait no stereo? I'll wait for someone who makes an analog L/R Delay,,
teleprompter seriously?we all understand "notes" but hardly anyone in this area of music knows sheet music or how to read it for this type of area of music.its what gives these instruments the freedom for creation.not knowing how to read or make sheet music.
Colour me underwhelmed, I found it rather dull and lifeless, lacklustre compared to some other delays, too clean, not enough graunch.
Me too. Sounds cold and sterile to me.
I have no idea what you two are listening to.
@@jcshirke Ha - I'm listening to this of course, silly! It is my subjective and personal preference but to me it just sounds like a digital delay, way too clean. If you like that, great, but it doesn't scratch my delay itch that's all.
Yeah I'm not sure if it's the Chinese chips or the actual circuit, but I agree. Compared to my Big Box memory man the actual sound of this is seriously lacking. It has way more digital computer features I'd never use, but that actual delay does not do it. I'm not sure why in today's age someone can't build a better delay pedal than one designed in the '70s? It can't just be the chips can it? I don't know, but the way my Memory Man almost seems to absorb notes on repeats and the beautiful modulation is just magical. I truly wish someone could make a feature filled delay with the same sounds. Haven't heard it yet.
@@sjgreaves It sounds nothing like a digital delay to me. Analog all the way.
Not good at reading scripts
For $550…I would rather just buy two guitars and run back and forth between them at my chosen delay time. I honestly can’t believe the prices of delays these days. Complete nonsense.
Two guitars for $550? Wow...you're a big spender, huh?
These things are really expensive to build. Analog audio chips are very pricey because demand is very low. 30, 40 years ago they were used everywhere - telecommunication, hifi, military, stage, studio, you name it. But now the market is literally limited to guitarists and synth players. BBD chip used in this delay costs 7 bucks per piece (in large quantity of course) and they use 4. It's digitally controlled, so they need a lot of VCA chips and/or digital potentiometers - expensive stuff. Analog dynamic processors for noise reduction and limiting - easily 7 bucks per chip, and they need at least three. Add to this very complex electronic design with a lot of quirks to overcome. Each one of the BBD chips needs to be manually trimmed for the lowest possible noise, so they need an actual technician to fine-tune every single unit. To make things worse, pandemic caused an enormous electronic chip shortage, so all prices went up. I'm actually designing similar delay lately, and I can assure you it can't be done any cheaper
good luck with a guitar for 225$. 👍🏻
