      You sir are motivation for young people. About a year ago I started my fitness journey. Thoughts that ran through my head at the time:
      -do I want to be that fat Dad?
      -do I want my kids to ever outrun me?
      -do I want to be a fat, sloppy old person?
      I envisioned myself older, and in stellar shape. Not saying being healthy, and fit is a cure-all. But after losing 70 pounds in 70 months, and down to 12.5% body fat I feel better about myself than I ever have. When I look in the mirror I'm happy, and how I look is the product of many, many hours of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. I've slipped a bit to around 15% body fat, but am getting back there while building muscle, and losing those last few pounds of fat slowly.

If you wanna cut from time to time to get that shredded beach body, that's perfectly fine, but 12.5% is absurdly low to maintain on a daily basis. I'm no one to tell you what to do, but following on OP's message, please prioritize your health over your pride and looks. 15% body fat is already lower than most people will ever even get.

    Sean, great video as usual! 2 tips from you that have helped me stay consistent over the past 8 years:
    1. Set realistic goals: don't expect to look like the photos of bodybuilders on the internet with 4% body fat.
    2. Progress is not always linear: when I first started, I had this expectation. There will be ups and downs so don't be surprised or let them set you back.
    Lastly, when my girl asks me in the morning "do you feel like working out today?" My answer is "not really, but it's not a choice. I just do it."

    A mindset that I see people fall into is being too consumed the concept of "WHAT" and forget about "WHY". WHAT are your goals? WHAT exercises need to be done? WHAT kind of diet should I do? Many people forget or may not even understand "WHY did you make a conscious decision to prioritize your physical fitness and nutrition?" When you are struggling with WHAT, is it always great to be able to fall back on WHY..
    WHY do I put so much emphasis on my fitness and nutrition? It is because it allows me to feel confident in myself which allows me to have better relationships with people and have a mindset where I dont have any doubt I am able to accomplish tasks put in front of me. That is WHY I want to keep going no matter what inevitable roadblocks come my way when it comes to WHAT to do.

    I like the gym and training so much I don't understand why people need a pre-workout drink to get hyped to lift. Sometimes I get so sore from all the dropsets, giantsets and beyond failure training that I almost can't move my limbs the next day. Still I keep coming back to the gym to get more burning sensation. That's why gains keep coming no need to worry about that for me, because I LOVE the proces of lifting so much!

    • @DOUBLE0SEVUN
      @DOUBLE0SEVUN Před 4 lety +2

      Yes! I feel the same way! I'm so glad I pulled the trigger a few years ago bought my own power rack. I slowly built my gym in the process and it's one of the best things I have done. I can workout LITERALLY any time I want, for however long I want, how I want, blast whatever music I want, and so much more! Seeing all the gym-goers freak out over losing their gains and not being able to workout because gyms are closed, made me even more thankful that I have my own gym!
      There's times that I get home from work and I don't feel like working out or unmotivated, but once I start breaking a sweat and feel the weight over me as I squat down and come back up, it all goes away. I've often laughed at myself while I'm working out because I remember that I did not want to workout right before, and now I'm enjoying the burn and all the sweating.
      I use that feeling of not wanting to workout as a punishment and make myself workout even harder and longer by using dropsets and going till failure. I find that those are often the best workout and feel the most accomplished afterwards because I did not want to workout right before but I pushed myself and went even harder than I intended to initially!

      The main benefit of pre-workout is caffeine. If you have ever tried taking caffeine before a workout, it is clear how much of a difference it makes in your ability to lift. It helps you lift heavier and lift more/longer. It is important not to become reliant on stimulants or to use them too heavily, though.

A few years ago i got myself down to a health weight n started building some good muscle before nagging injuries and overall exhaustion hit and i stopped for a few years and started getting fat to the tune of 70 lbs over weight(im 6 foot 2.) I recently decided i was going to try again but this time im going to do it right and hopefully not kill myself. Starting out im focusing on cardio and a caloric deficit to get the fat back off. Its hard to stay motivated but i always told myself its the days where your not motivated but you do it anyway that you make the most progress. I know i gotta get the weight off and push through the growing pains(again) to make a difference, so im reminding myself everyday when i just dont want to do it; suck it up and get it done anyway because thats when ill make the most progress

I did this naturally by eating and training properly. I was lucky to play for a Hall of Fame Coach. I have continued to train all my life but for the past four years I started intermittent fasting, I felt great but I was tired of being “skinny”. I now lift three days a week full body workout. I train to 1-2 reps to failure each set. I still feel a little sore every day and wonder if I should train twice a week I am back to 3 meals a day and have a couple of pounds. Any suggestions?

    • @xnoreq
      @xnoreq Před rokem

      At that age people have to do 5+ sets per muscle group per week solely to maintain muscle mass and prevent loss! If you've been skinny your whole life then it will be hard or even impossible to build a "bulky" physique now.
      It may take you doing up to 15 sets per muscle group per week to slowly gain muscle mass assuming you eat 1.6-2.2g of protein per kg body weight, get proper sleep, recovery ...
      Anyway, I hope you will achieve your goals!

    but the important thing to remember is this:
    You fail only when you STOP PERMANENTLY. it's okay to rest, just don't stop completely.
    even if you only do 2 pushup everyday. this is good. you're strengthnen these neural connections; which means the automation of this habit. and once you automate it, you can add wokouts little by little

One thing I discovered is that there is a lot of trial and error involved in formulating a plan that you're happy with. I've dropped some exercises that I don't think were doing anything positive for me and added new ones that work much better in helping me attain my goals. As you said, it's easy to get discouraged and give up if you don't see results right away. Over 8 months, I've seen and felt the changes within my body, and I like the path I'm on. I brought my first pair of dumbbells at 15 & was interested in them for a few months, them at 20 brought a full set with a bench & had it for a few years & wasn't motivated anymore, after 30 years later this time I owned a full home gym with thousands of dollars worth of workout equipment. Yes, what you say is true motivation can come & go & can stop you from something for a long time, but I'm glad this time it isn't just because of motivation alone, it's about change & a real commitment for the long term.

    From a diet/nutrition perspective, the way I came to terms with better eating habits was basically how I was 38 years of age at the time and realized that I basically had eaten burgers, pizza, tacos.. chips n dips, cookies n candy etc.. for half of my life, possibly more than half considering all the damage I had done with everything I consumed that was never in moderation, and almost always unhealthy. Major details aside, I came to terms with the idea of just leaving all that behind and trying to be healthier for a change. It was just time for me to move on. Yeah, all that food tasted good, but overtime it just became the same shit. And if your gonna eat the same shit over and over and over.. why not something that’s nutritious so you might live longer amirite?
    Once I saw the weight slowly come off gradually as I began eating better, It was rather easy to dedicate myself to becoming more physically fit via exercise, and believe me.. when you see results, you really don’t wanna stop, your basically in it to win it from then on. Or at the very least, be a better you until you feel appropriately better about yourself.

I probably have the worlds worse genetics for building upper body muscle, though I persisted, and now have an upper body that I never imagined having! I am not huge, though have a good amount of muscle for my genetics, and for that I am very thankful!

    Thanks a lot for this video! I’ve been on my “fitness journey” since the beginning of this year, coming from a place where me and my buddies love the more then occasional beers around the fire and working more the desired I’ve been beating myself up way to much about an extra rest day here or there and the like...

    This was a great video to watch! I started at the beginning of lockdown In march. I only have resistance bands and 2 chairs for dips. I've seen slight improvement over the last 4 months. But you really cleared some bits up such as how long before seeing results and keeping motivated and consistent.

    What's the right mindset to deal with small but kinda persistent joint pain?
    Stop using that joint until the annoyance completely goes away, or still 'keep moving' but temporarily switch to VERY light weights and low intensity? What's best for healing? (not talking about 'see a doctor' kind of pain, it's absolutely bearable but I don't like this and don't have much experience at all dealing with these things).
