    Are you learning to sew? I’d love to hear! If you already know how to sew, I’d love to hear the first thing you made. ☺️✨

      I just got my first sewing machine yesterday for my birthday from my fiancé! The first thing I made was a pillowcase dress for my 2 1/2 year old from your video! It wasn’t perfect by any means, but I was glad I even made anything! I’ve never used a sewing machine before! Your videos helped me a ton!

      On my tenth birthday my mom got me my sewing machine ( it was a big deal, since she was a single mom) It’s still the one I use today. I used to hand sew scraps of fabric together for Barbie doll clothes. My first sewing Machine project was probably a trick or treat bag. Now that I’m older, my goal for this year is to advance my sewing/finishing skills. The hardest sewing project I’ve ever done was my wedding dress ( I have plans to go back and correct some mistakes and seams)

      This is adorable! 😍 The first thing I ever made was a headband and then proceeded to make about 50 of them for a church craft fair fundraiser. I loved seeing everyone wear them for years to come ☺️ sewing is such a gratifying art!

    My dad taught me to sew when I was 7 and enrolled me in a Singer Sewing class and I was the only child in the class. We made a dress which I still have. It was pretty rough if you look at the zipper application and the facings, but from the outside, it looks pretty good for a first time project. Because I have been sewing my whole life, I started a blog in 2009 to teach people around the world how to sew alterations. I had never heard of a bento bag, so this was a fun project to see!

    My nanny taught me how to sew, every summer break we'd pick something new to make and argue over pattern instructions. The first thing I remember making is a little blanket for my stuffed animals and a little pouch for my pencils, I still have both of them. ❤

      @RooneySewingPatterns  Před 5 měsíci

      How sweet, Noel! I think it is funny that you argued over instructions. I can see that happening in the future with my daughter haha :)
      I also love that you still have the first things you made -- I need to remember to keep things!

    This bag is the first thing we made. My daughter is 7 she and I just finished the bag today. She’s beyond excited that she knows how to sew now. Thanks for the great project. We’ll be buying one of your patterns next so she can start making her own clothes🤙

    This bag is so sweet 🤍 I even see myself using this as a makeup bag when I travel!
    The first project I ever tried was making curtains for our French doors. I never got around to finishing them because I was in the thick of new motherhood and had a hard time finding room in my days to do any sort of hobby. But now that my daughter is a little older I’m able to squeeze in some sewing time during her naps and bedtime.

      Such a great idea using this for makeup!
      I understand the thick of newborn days. Sometimes putting projects aside is hard but so rewarding later on when you can pick them back up again with fresh perspective and a little more space :)

    My grandma taught my mom to sew thru 4-H & I’m now a 2nd gen, taught by my mom! I think my very frost sewing project in 3rd grade was a midnight blue with subtle sparkle cotton a-line skirt with waistband, zipper, and hook & eye. I’m hoping to teach my kids sewing in this way, too! So many good memories, challenges lol, and learned SO much!! So grateful for the opportunity to learn to sew from my family in this way! 🙌

    My mother bought me a sewing machine for Christmas probably close to 10 years ago. I still have lots to learn- I have been getting it out more often these days. One of my first projects was a whale stuffy that I made for my son when he was a baby followed by your teddy bear pattern 🧸

    This was my first time attempting to sew and this was my first video tutorial that I followed as I paused. My times to sew my FIRST PROJECT! It definitely was not perfect.... lots of wonky sides and unevenness...but it's a bento bag! And will be my bread bag! Thanks for this tutorial, super helpful and encouraging first project on my sewing journey. Looking forward to other tutorials!! TO MANY MORE SEWING PROJECTS!!!

    First thing I made was in 7th grade home ec (in the 1960’s!!). It was a white sleeveless jumper with a big groovy flower pattern. My big learning moment (not a mistake!!) was marking for the hem while wearing it, looking down. Oops!! The jumper was about 5 inches too short! My solution: use blue bias tape to cover the 10” of sliced fabric. Even better: add a second row to make it look intentional!! Loved that jumper, sure wish I had saved it ✂️✂️
