- One of my most favorite songs by karnivool, the original mix and master is so bad to my ears that I just had to remaster it myself. It's more balanced now across the whole spectrum (no gullfoss or audio destructive spectral processing has been used, not a fan of it), has more of a sound awake album grit and tone without the ear destroying and piercing high mids. Also do you hear the high and low end extension? FULL to my ears :) Hope you like it.
Compare both versions side by side, I dont know how the original passed the ears check :/

I don't understand mixing but I think I like what you did here. The original is perfect to me it its own way, but hearing it side by side definitely makes the original sound tinny and narrower. I don't know how else to describe it.
Thank you! I did quite a lot of finicky things. The louder you want to hear the song the louder the problems come out from the original. I optimised it for loud listening on full range speakers and great headphones :) absolute bliss to me now.

While this does sound cleaner to me, it’s somewhat lost the vibe of the original. Sounds more sound awake but unfortunately the Asymmetry mix prevents it from sounding as good as it could haha. You did a great job though!
Thank you, yeah with forrester savell onboard this would sound just as good as sound awake (see single "all it takes" with forrester savell onboard again...) Asymmetry is most definitely not forrester savell mixing that.

You did a great job! really! But my ears aren't able to hear it as a suffle. I've simply become too accustomed to hearing the song wrong over the past few years. I hear it as a 3/4 time with an anticipated 'one'.@@Caynug
@@TheAverageFan_ you give me an idea. I can make the track glue and pump to the shuffle rhythm as an experiment, that way you feel the shuffle and it nudges you towards thinking of it as an shuffle.

Sounds good at first, but as the song goes on, it definitely starts to sound stale and flat. Everything sounds up front and no real depth in the layers of sound. It's too balanced, and believe it or not, that is an issue in mixing. Original gets my vote.
The original has a more dynamic sound and manages to sound bigger and has more depth, even with technically a smaller sound. Each sound fills a certain space and is actually masterfully mixed
I think this mix suffers from what most modern mixes suffer from. The battle for loudness, heavier bass, and over compression. It's ruined modern mixes.
It doesn't sound bad. Sounds maybe even good. Just flat is all.
Guess it just depends on what youre looking for.
I disagree that it has a Sound Awake sound because that album is also very dynamic and not "balanced" at all
But hey, if you enjoy it this way, more power to you. I hope this doesn't come off as rude, just giving my honest opinion with some insight as to why. I think the original is one of the best mixes I've ever heard in my life.
