  • Where does mullein grow? When do you harvest mullein? What is fasciation? Join EagleSong on a walk through the many mulleins at RavenCroft Garden. Mullein, Verbascum thapsus, is a biennial plant that prefers gravelly well-drained sites. Look for the wavy leaf attachment to the stem, the grey-green fuzzy leaf, yellow flowers that bloom sporadically on the plant, usually in a spiral pattern. Anywhere from 3 to 12 feet tall mullein is an amazing plant with many uses.

Two years ago the house next door (which had been empty for years) was bought. Blackberries all the way up to the house. As the new owners were clearing it out I spotted a mullein rosette and some stalks and asked if I could have them. I had never had mullein and didn't know much about them except to recognize the plant. I planted the rosette in the garden and put the stalks in water-they drank the water like crazy but didn't do anything. That's when I learned that they were bi-annual. My one rosette grew nicely, formed a nice stalk. Now I have mullein rosettes all over the place. My last count was over 20; some I had to move and they survived. I think I need to make medicine this year.

Your garden is absolutely beautiful. I found you while searching for mullein. I normally buy it dried and chopped for tea, but this year, I started seed. Trying to look to see what seedlings look like.

Is it hard to transplant from a container to the ground. Mine is from seed, just one, and this is the second year. No flowers just soft leaves. I'm in Georgia. Thank you

I love mullein. I can't get it to grow, but I will not give up.

Found a fuzzy Avatar looking plant beside a creek in the sandy bank yesterday! Absolutely loved it! Dug at her for twenty minutes and trekked back home with it praying I didn't break out with some crazy rash 😂. Thanks to your video, I'm even more extatic about her properties! Will she do well in expanded shale/compost garden bed? Thx again!

Thank you! Beautiful garden, but I was wondering if you have a problem with rats in it?
