Let's Explore Sacramento Delta Towns: Rio Vista, Isleton & Locke...Cinematic Travel Vlog No.4

- On July 5, 2020, my friend Dee and I drove out to the Sacramento Delta country to visit some of the more notable towns. We visited Rio Vista, a lovely town on the Sacramento River, now best known for its fishing, boating and recreational pursuits. The townspeople were particularly friendly; one even wanted to be in the vlog. We stopped at the Rio Vista Bakery, where Dee sampled a few of the fifty cent donuts.
After Rio Vista, we took a scenic ride across the Sacramento River bridge and turned North along the river to Isleton. What a cool town! Many don't know, but it was the birthplace of Pat Morita, best known as Mr. Miyagi, in the movie, Karate Kid. Even fewer know of his early life struggles. Born in 1932, at age two he contracted spinal tuberculosis, and ended up spending years in a sanitarium. Upon release he was further unlucky enough to be sent to a Japanese internment camp. This was because his family was of Japanese ancestry. He did find success on Happy Days, the television series, and then the Karate Kid movies.
The town was weather-beaten in appearance, but that only heightened its charm. We were lucky enough to get to video inside the Mei Hwa bar, an establishment that served as an opium den, a brothel, and finally a bar. It was a super visit. The Chinese influence, as well as Japanese, was evident throughout. It is a must see.
Our last destination was Locke, America's oldest established Chinese town, built by Chinese for Chinese. In other words, it wasn't a Chinatown area as we see in most cities. It was all Chinese. It was established in 1915, as part of a land grant, by the Locke family, and was originally known as Lockeport. The name was later shortened to Locke.
This is a delta city you really must see. Every turn, every street, holds visual eye candy. Examine the buildings, as we did, and try to imagine yourself one hundred years ago, living in such a community. It's hard to put into words how fascinating this town is. If you can only visit one delta town, this would be it. Moreover, if you have any interest in Chinese culture in America, this is the place to come see life at the turn of the 20th century. Thanks for watching!

Another wonderful trip along with you ! Thank you 😊❤️!
I really enjoyed all 3 towns. Very beautiful, and unique. Rio Vista, reminded me of the fictional town, in Son's of Anarchy, Charming, California. Locke was telling a story of it's own history,in the old wood, built so long ago, and Isleton, had so many neat little places too visit, even the store with the succulent plants, for sale.
I can tell you poured your heart and soul into this. I really enjoyed it too.
