all, I think :) My favourites are Small Gods, Going Postal, The Truth and Men at Arms, and my favourite characters are Death, Lord Vetinari and Granny Weatherwax. Basically, I reread the books over and over and over, they make me so happy

I love love love the Tiffany Aching books, especially wintersmith. I think Granny weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are even better there than in the witches series. And best Death book by far is thief of time!

So as I said on Facebook as much as I've always loved fantasy and read many many other series, I couldn't get into the first Discworld books. I like the sound of this approach (will have to quell my OCD as that makes me want to go chronologically for sure) and I fancy the witches or the city watch books. I'm off to do the quiz. I'll let you know the result. I only have his first ever book The Colour of Magic so it may be off to the bookshop for me! Uh oh! 🙈📚📚

I really have to go back to reading Discworld! It's such a lovely series but I haven't made it too far in yet (I think I read 13 or 14?) and with my poor memory I'm somewhat hesitant to pick up the unread ones on my tbr (Interesting Times, Moving Pictures & Men at Arms) without rereading the previous installments in the subseries first.
From those I've read I liked Equal Rites (or really all the Witches books 😂), Reaper Man and Pyramids best.

I loved Pyramids. It's a bit of a stand-alone in the series, but it is ever so funny!
And I'd say: don't be hesitant. Why not start with Guards! Guards! so you can then follow up with Men At Arms and work your way through the City Watch series?

I've read/currently own all 41 canon Discworld books. I have read most of the periphery books. And I can attest - Night Watch/Thud! are the two best books in existence (any genre/author) for people of a certain parental frame of mind.
But, maybe I am biased, as I have a Summoning Dark/Guarding Dark tattoo, and a (much older) Luggage tattoo...

I have been wanting to get into discworld since a long time. I read colour of magic but I didn't enjoy it. Your way sounds interesting and I am going to give it another chance.

In my opinion, The Colour of Magic is a book about worldbuilding. I don’t think it’s all that bad (but certainly not the best either), but it is a book you enjoy later on, when you’ve got a few Discworld novels read and you’re hooked.

@@timothygray7412 I have heard several people say already they started reading chronologically and didn't like it. Those who went in again later with one of the subseries for example, ended up loving the entire Discworld series. The first books are a lot of worldbuilding, which indeed makes sense, but isn't for everyone, I guess.

@@cafeaulivre I understand the reasoning totally and can understand reading the subseries before the 1st two but from the start of them, because say in the night watch series carrot builds up from the start no spoilers but you can see what I mean.
