    We've used a combination of Cloudflare, LiteSpeed and the premium QUIC.cloud CDN to achieve these amazing results, completely for free.

    Your video is fire! Thank you so much, it made my blog super fast. A couple of questions though. If I connect to quic cdn as you show on the video will it optimize images regardless cause I’m already using ewww plugin for webp so I don’t need quic cdn to do that. Also, is the cdn for free for page caching or is there a monthly quota? It wasn’t clear on your video

    • @wpmaker
      @wpmaker  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hey Alex, thanks for the comment! Inside the QUIC CDN settings (or inside the Litespeed plugin settings) you can disable the image optimization. I recommend only using one plugin for this, so you can either disable it on the ewww side, or disable it on the Litespeed / QUIC side.
      There is a monthly quota for the Premium CDN plan. If you hit it, you will still have QUIC CDN for free, but it will get slightly slower (you'll be automatically moved to the free plan). You can check the exact numbers and how much of your quota you're using, inside your account on QUIC's website.
      Hope this helps, good luck!

    Hello! Awesome video! I´m starting in this world and I got a question, is this tutorial an alternative to plugins such as Smush (compress, image optimizer, lazy load...)? Is it perfectly compatible? Thanks very much. Greetings from Spain!!

    • @wpmaker
      @wpmaker  Před 8 měsíci

      I've somehow missed your comment, apologies.
      In general, it's best practice to not use 2 plugins that do the same thing (2 plugins that do caching, 2 plugins that do image compression, etc). If you do use 2 such plugins, you can disable the same functionality in the other (for example, you can use 2 plugins that have caching and image compression, but go into the settings and disable caching in one and image optimizations in the other).
      LiteSpeed does pretty much all of the things you need, so you're unlikely to need another plugin. It does caching, image optimization, CDN and more. And lazyload is now native to WordPress, so you don't even need a plugin for that.
      In short, you should be good to go with just this tutorial. Don't add other optimization plugins on top unless you know exactly what you're doing and why. I hope this helps!

    Done! the site feels like its loading faster lol i'm not sure. The google page speed and gtmetrix figures haven't changed yet. I will update once he image optimization completes. I have over 5k image on the site
    *Update*
    The optimizations do work. Desktop speed of around 91 on google page speed from 40 and 37 for mobile from 13.
    I did play around with a few other settings on lightspeed - minify css and js aswell as a few others and installed freesoul plugin that allows you to disable plugins on different pages that are not being used.
    Im on Namehero plus cloud hosting and i think once i upgrade to the business cloud package my site will be super super fast!
    Overal, great tutorial. Thanks it worked for me!

    • @wpmaker
      @wpmaker  Před rokem

      Wow, that's a bunch of images! :)
      Note that you should still size your images properly (height & width) to keep them small in size. Under 400-500 kB is a good rule of thumb, ideally as small as possible. And make sure you don't have any badly coded plugins that slow your website down.
      You can also make sure that your configuration works correctly like at 13:18 in the video.
      Once you confirm that it works, for GTMetrix you should do 3 tests and use an average of the results. You can also use speedvitals.com/ttfb-test which is a great tool to test your site's speed from all over the world (under 200ms result is super good). Same thing, do 3 tests and take an average.
      This is because the first "visit" (or test) doesn't really count - that visit is used by your server to create the cache for the page. Subsequent visits will be much faster (for all visitors in that specific region of the world).
      I assume you're running an eCommerce site? What host are you using? Let us know how it goes! :)

      I do like to keep those 2 settings enabled, yes. But if you do all of the steps in this video, then they won’t matter that much because Litespeed handles them already. So in short they won’t make a big difference one way or another :)

      Hey Matt, sorry to hear that. This can vary drastically from one site to another depending on your design, plugins used, etc. I'd try to optimize it further by testing out my speed with and without certain plugins one by one - to find the culprit and find a workaround. Sorry for the late reply, hope you've managed to improve your speed more in the meantime!

      They need to be supported by your web host to be enabled (I’m using Namehero here). You could get in touch with your host to see if they offer it.

    • @wpmaker

      Not at all. We’re only using Cloudflare as a DNS manager (we disable their orange cloud CDN setting/option), mostly for its CNAME flattening capabilities. Because most web hosts’ DNS managers (cPanel) can’t do CNAME flattening thus can’t correctly connect to QUIC Cloud :)

      But make sure you’ve set the nameservers to the correct ones that Cloudflare gave you. Also make sure your DNS records have been copied over to Cloudflare, just like in our video at step 1. I would double-check these 2 things :)

The WordPress back-end is influenced by many plugins, so I would start my investigation by de-activating all of them and re-activating one by one while testing the speed each time to find the culprit. Cloudflare has the same effect on your whole website, so if your front-pages load fast (when you are not logged in), then it is impossible that Cloudflare is the direct culprit for only your Dashboard being slow (when logged in as an admin). I hope this helps you investigate, good luck!

    After setting up the CDN, when you inspect your website's network headers, server is showing as litespeed. You had switched to cloudflare, right? How come it is not showing cloudflare there?

    • @wpmaker
      @wpmaker  Před rokem +1

      Cloudflare has 2 "modes" in their DNS records, as seen at around 11:04 in the video.
      If you keep the "Proxied" option turned on (orange cloud icon), then you're using Cloudflare's CDN and the network headers would show Cloudflare as your server. But if you turn it off (gray cloud icon) like we do, then you're not using Cloudflare's CDN anymore - and your site's traffic simply gets passed on to QUIC Cloud.
      That is what we want, since we're using QUIC Cloud's CDN instead. It would actually make your website slower if we kept the Cloudflare CDN on top.
      I hope this makes sense! :)

      You could also write just the image name and this should also suffice:

      Without looking at your setup directly I can't really be sure why Cloudflare breaks this connection when you move your domain to it. Perhaps there is a DNS record that you have on your old DNS host, but that is missing inside Cloudflare? I would cross-check those. I'm not sure what plugin / method you're using for this connection, and I don't use Hostinger myself either.
      www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-connect-microsoft-outlook-to-wordpress/
      Maybe this can help too. I hope you find the fix, I'm sorry that I can't help more. I'd also try getting in touch with Hostinger and explaining this to their support - they might be able to help since it sounds like they made the recommendation. Good luck!

      Hey again Philippe,
      I might've figured out your problem. Check this out: quic.cloud/docs/troubleshooting/domain-email-no-longer-working/
      So you will need to go to your Cloudflare DNS configuration. Edit your current MX record from there (the one with the name yourdomain.com), and point it to mail.yoursite.com - save this.
      Then if you have any other records with the name "mail", delete them (you probably have a CNAME record with this). Now create a new A record, for Name type in "mail", and for IPv4 put in the IP address of your hosting, and also disable the Cloudflare cloud (click it so that it turns gray, not orange). Save it.
      Wait for 30-60 minutes, and try your SMTP configuration / Outlook connection again. I think this should fix it, I hope it helps! Good luck!

    • @wpmaker
      @wpmaker  Před rokem +1

      Hey Christina, you don't need to delete all A records, just the one you're trying to replace (the yoursite.com main one). Then it will allow you to add the CNAME replacement for it (like I do in the video).
      To be 100% safe you can just back-up your current record in a text file before deleting it (just take a note of its name and target IP address). Then if anything goes wrong, you can simply add it back just like it was before :) other than that I recommend following everything I'm doing exactly like in the video, and it will work. Note how I deleted the A record before adding the CNAME one, which is why I didn't get the error you're getting.

      Hey, it's hard to tell exactly what is the problem since I don't know your full setup. However, most likely the problem is with your QUIC Cloud configuration. You should force HTTPS there. This should help, check it out: www.quic.cloud/docs/cdn/configuring-http-access/
      Make sure to force https, and to have a CNAME DNS record from "www" pointing to "yoursite.com." You could also get in touch with your hosting provider and they might be able to help ensure all your traffic is non-www only. But the above should fix it. Good luck!

      We aren't using 2 CDNs, because the Cloudflare CDN functionality becomes disabled when we switch off the orange cloud option (at around 11:03 in the video).
      So we essentially disable all Cloudflare CDN functionality, and from then on we only use Cloudflare for its CNAME Flattening capabilities to correctly point over to QUIC. Then our only CDN remains QUIC.cloud, which is much faster and better integrated with all Litespeed hosts.

      Search Console might take a while to update after you've made improvements to your speed. If your website feels fast enough on mobile in the real world, I wouldn't worry too much about it. There are hugely popular websites out there that get bad scores in "official" tools and yet they get great rankings in Google.
      But if your website is also slow when you visit it, then you will need to make some improvements. You can play with the other Litespeed Cache settings to experiment, but it's also a matter of everything else that you actually have on your pages.
      Try removing plugins / widgets from your content and learn what makes it slow. Then try to get rid of that or perhaps replace those elements with an alternative. Also make sure you have a fast theme (like Astra), and of course make sure you have a fast web host :) good luck!

      It will still work just as good, it doesn’t matter where you got your domain from.
      What does matter is your web host, which should be a Litespeed host (such as Namehero) for steps 2 and 3 to work and provide the massive speed boost. Step 1 will work regardless of your web host and will still provide a significant speed boost on its own.

    • @wpmaker
      @wpmaker  Před rokem +2

      Hey Mat, when changing your nameservers to Cloudflare did you follow the process exactly like in the video? If you did then Cloudflare should've automatically got your DNS records from your previous nameservers, so this shouldn't be happening normally.
      Either way, the problem will be a missing or wrong IP address for your "yoursite.com" DNS record inside Cloudflare. The IP should be the same one that you had on your previous nameserver provider (which you didn't mention whether you used your Godaddy nameservers or Hostpapa nameservers - although I assume Hostpapa).
      Try this. Inside Cloudflare, click your domain name and on the left-side menu go to DNS. For the A record "yoursite.com" you need to input your Hostpapa IP. Here's how you can find your Hostpapa IP: hostpapasupport.com/servers-ip-address/ - note that this edit inside Cloudflare will take up to an hour or so to finish, so give it some time if it doesn't work right away.
      Alternatively, you can revert back the Cloudflare change to your old nameservers (probably ns1.hostpapa.com and ns2.hostpapa.com - or whichever nameservers you had before the Cloudflare move) - and everything will return back to normal. Note that nameserver changes take longer to propagate, up to 24-48 hours.
      I hope this helps, let me know how it goes! I'll be glad to help if you bump into any other issues.

    • @wpmaker
      @wpmaker  Před rokem +2

      Hey again Mat, there are 2 possible problems, either 1 - your GoDaddy namesevers (NS1 and NS2) are pointed to the wrong Cloudflare nameservers, or 2 - your DNS records (inside the DNS side menu in Cloudflare) are wrong. My guess is your issue is #2.
      You should check these DNS records inside Cloudflare. You should have an "A" record (the one that says yourdomain.com). It should point to your Hostpapa IP address (I've given you a link for how to find the correct IP for this, in my previous reply). It shouldn't point to any nameserver here - it should be your Hostpapa IP inside the "Content" column.
      Unfortunately I can't help more than this since I'm not able to take a look at your setup directly. But if you can't figure it out, reach out to Hostpapa support and they should be able to help you and perhaps even set it up for you themselves :)
