  • How to Take a Punch & Overcome Fear in a Fight.
    The fear of taking a punch cripples even the best of us. It’s ESPECIALLY a common problem among beginners learning how to fight and defend themselves. I mean… how do you expect someone to fight well if he’s afraid of getting hit? It’s near impossible right? Fortunately, there IS a solution and ANYBODY can overcome this fear….
    Before we start you have to understand the possible causes of the fear of taking a punch in a fight.
    There are 3 simple factors. The first is being hit actually hurts (it’s a pain response), the second is you can’t see the punches (it’s the fear of the unknown), third, you’re not mental prepared for being punched (this is the emotional response).
    In short, the expectation of pain combined with the fear of the unknown and lack of will lead to an increased fear of getting punched in a fight.

    This is so true. If you are afraid of the fight you will always be hesitant and then you will always lose.
    Punches don't actually hurt as much as you think they will.
    The anime cuts are really cool btw. It's a great visual contrast to the MMA fight clips and footage from the Kwoon. Good visual editing like this holds the viewers attention so the important message gets across.

    I'm not trying to brag or anything but whenever I have been hit before in unavoidable street fights they never hurt, in fact I couldn't even feel them despite getting caught flush at times ! This is most likely down to the adrenaline factor, when all you are concentrating on is winning the fight and getting off punches of your own they don't even register ! That's just my own personal experience of course, but maybe I didn't get hit hard enough ? They certainly put everything in them though. Infamous cobbles brawler Lenny McLean pretty much attested to the same fact.

  • @Honest_Grifter
    @Honest_Grifter Před rokem

    Slow sparring is honestly one of the best bits of advice... whenever I spar with others, I like to start off slow, because it give you a chance to familiarize yourself with the other person's body movements that accompany their various strikes, because although we all throw the same "punches", the way in which our particular bodies deliver and receive them are relatively unique, so a jab might fly out a little different depending on that person's range of motion...

  • @SpiritualAthiest
    @SpiritualAthiest Před 6 lety +1

    I had this fear until I started to spar. Plus, whenever I remember getting in a fight before that, I remembered that whenever I got into a fight, the punches felt numbing, unless I got punched in the gut and the wind left me. I was flubber to. I only fought before this because of bullying. The real pain whenever before or after this came fron a kick in the balls or a missed punch when I raised my head and the punch slipped down and I got punched in the throat. Great video by the way.

    "...take a punch in a fight." Is the fight a ring fight or anything-goes, fight? If the fight has nothing to do with rules that must be followed, then I won't assume that it's only a punch coming at me. Too easy to hide edged weapons and such already in the hands or that will be used quickly after the initial bare handed attack.
    Which then leads to what a person should do legally and morally not really knowing about the unknowns of the attacker(s). You can't assume they have a deadly weapon hidden in their hands and pull out a deadly weapon to counter and you can't assume they have no weapon.

    Had a hard lesson.
    Beginning my journey.
    No deep details here.
    But maybe the shock of the actual physical assault.
    Brain into a brain lock,
    That though learning how to strike,
    You don’t strike back;
    Maybe the shock of it all;
    To overwhelmed 😢
    It’s like bringing that self defense teaching into the forefront and putting it into action
    And not just take it.
    Difficult lesson here.
    Maybe the shock of it all?
    (and it could of been worse)
    So keys into bringing it when one is assaulted? (And not going into a brain lock)
    Just sparring like crazy? Act out scenarios with sparing partners?
    Thank you
