Hello guys, today i would like to share with you this new video, about Oral Motor Tools. And in Occupational Therapy one of the tools that I use is the z-vibe.
Talking about oral motor tools, we usually refer tools for those who need stimulation, oral stimulation for feeding and speech development.
The Z-vibe as vibratory oral sensory motor tool has different tips. My favourite tips are:
The Probe Tip : this tip is used for oral motor exercises and normalising sensitivities. The probe is for about 3 years year and above.
The Preefer Tip : this tip i like to use when a rolling action is needed, for example to stimulate the cheeks from inside, across the lips, etc.
The Fine Tip : this is to use as isolation for specific movements of the tongue and oral cavity, also as provider of tactile cues inside of the mouth.
The Tongue Depressor Tip : The tongue depressor is very useful for examination inside of the oral cavity, and while working on skills such lip closure and tongue elevation.
    Important to notice:
We are all different, which means our oral motor sensitivity is also different. Some individuals may be less receptive to vibration than others. This is important to observe and take in consideration while working with vibration. In fact, vibration can be very alerting, and may take some time to establish trust and acceptance. Start slowly, we are not in a hurry, most important that gradually the individual will accept such input.
The z-vibe is used to provide stimulation and improve the oral motor skills. Please monitor the response ad adjust accordingly.
With the z-vibe you can improve:
    Oral Awareness
    Lip Closure
    Tongue Lateralisation
    Tongue Elevation
    Jam strength and stability

Being a rubber material, you can just put the tips in hot water. Otherwise alcohol wipes should work too. Thank you

Hi I am parent of Prader will syndrome baby (7 month)can u guide to improve sucking effort and also speech therapy

    • @LisaShchyhelOT
      @LisaShchyhelOT  Před 2 lety +1

Hello, thank you for writing. For sucking skills you must to work closely with oral motor stimulation- like gentle whistles and dummy. If you baby does not take the dummy, encourage with gentle exercises to do so. Please check some of my other videos , that will definitely help you!
Regarding speech, try to use a lot of songs, and vocalize close to your baby. Working on sucking and oral motor stimulation will definitely help the speech development.
