pcgs is becoming a Questionable Grading service
Open a couple of them send them send back at the higher tier and see if they come back with a different grade
This is the very reason I'm a weight stacker, not a numismatic stacker
Agreed. The quality of a coin is too subjective.
@@daniels1485it is really not as subjective as you would think. There are standards and feeling sorry for someone and giving them a higher grade is not part of the standard. It does teach a valuable lesson though. If you are going to collect and submit for grades, then it is imperative that you learn all you can about the coins you are collecting…plus what a cleaned coin looks like…rim dings can also make a coin ungradable as well as scratches. Learn the differences in strike quality as well. Some are better struck than others…while some can be soft strikes where silver flow doesn’t fill the entire die leaving flat spots in the design. The list is long and with some types of coins the list is even longer with issues affecting the grades.
Ouch, that was a kick in the sack
Hi How you doing these days.? I need to check your channel. I'm not getting all things
I'm subbed to for some reason. 🤗🤗
If they were your coins, I would love to see the not gradable coins cracked and sent to NGC to see what they say… especially the “scratched” coins. would be interesting to see the difference
Ngc is a little more forgiving. 👍
No way they straight grade at NGC. You’re all too soft. They’re looking at them under very specific lighting conditions and have 2 independent graders and a finalizer that all independently agree. It’s just a cold dose of reality
My last 4 submissions consist of 77 coins and 74 of 77 straight graded
You have to learn what they like and don’t like and tailor your submission choices, or better yet, your purchases in general
@@Samscoinsandheavymetal I have a harder time with Peace Dollars than any other coin. I've seen 66's from PCGS that looked awful, and cleaned.
@@tomtalley2192 I know they’re murder on them. I’m not saying I agree or disagree although I strongly prefer someone to put the reigns on all the people selling GEM BU on every coin they sell .. technical grade vs eye appeal can be tough to differentiate. PXGS posts the formula and is in every edition of rare coin market report which comes out Bi-monthly. Eye appeal / toning can influence grade by 1 full point + or -. So outstanding eye appeal can turn a 63 into. 64 while strongly negative toning can don the opposite
Usually it’s neutral to a half point either way
Dipped coins are the Bain of many a collector myself as much as anyone .. I prefer original skin over dipped blast white but the reality is we can’t tell if a coins been dipped. Especially after 3-6 months. They retone and quick dips can’t be deciphered when done right. I have owned EZEST since 2010 and have used it extremely sparingly .. I still have the original jar and it’s still 80% full. I used it once on a roll of 1952-D Unc half dollars that had ugly greenish yellow toning and dead luster .. I was selling them and they sold for over $100 more than if I didn’t dip them
The reality is pcgs can’t tell and neither can a collector u less it’s been over dipped or done wrong or done on a non Unc coin
Anyway I hear you but trust me there’s myriad reasons why its far better to have grading before ultra conservative as by definition the higher grade coins value is kept where they’re much scarcer
Don't know much about graded coins, but this is the first time I've heard of a coin graded as scratched. All of theses coins still look good.
Yeah me too. I figured scratch just gets you a lower grade.
All straight grades along with over grading if you were Q. David Bowers or David Hall.
One of the reasons I stick to graded coins that already have a straight grade.
No kidding I was thinking of buying raw coins and sending them for grading but not now
It goes both ways though. There are graded coins with a straight grade that have obviously been cleaned. It's a crapshoot either way. Even a crackout and resubmission of the cleaned coins in this video have a fair shot at coming back with a straight grade.
@@moogalak sometimes grader fatigue is the cause of coins coming back cleaned.
Wait... since when are scratched coins not gradeable?!
At least Anacs will give you a number grade when they details ding a coin. It always seems to me like PCGS/NGC are not doing their job when they say questionable color, etc. Also considering just how much it cost to grade all of those, for them to hold up a shipment over $10 on a borderline decision between ms 65 where 65 is below the threshold and 66 is 90 dollars above the threshold just seems a little picky to me.
Wow. You got ripped off by whoever graded this submission.
Agree 110%
Wow pcgs will never recieve a submission from this guy
This makes me very hesitant about sending in my UNC Morgan collection...
How can you call it that if it’s not graded
@@ThinkHarderr I can tell by the way that it is.
@@martyparsons8395 they’re probably just cleaned with au qualities
@@ThinkHarderr so true.... "genuine not gradeable"
26D has a massive scratch on the neck.
I stack peace dollars but never see the actual beauty of a peace dollar until now and there amazing even the ungrade able ones imo
Send them in again! Get a different grader.
Every time they get paid two three five times on a coin, it only makes it more likely that they grade more coins questionable.
PCGS has been on a "questionable Color" kick for awhile now. I doubt I would send in a toned coin for grading until they calm down on it.
🤣🤣🤣
Well at least he has a set of cleaned peace dollars!!!!! 😜lol😜
I dont comment much on videos.....but this submission brings back bad memories.....I used to do the submission thing to PCGS 15+ years ago and quit for this very reason....have a 20+ coin submission and have OVER half of them come back not gradeable...... EXCELLENT video by you SS, just sorry u got bad results.......
6 or 7 of those genuine coins are clearly cleaned. The 35p looked good.
So if you send in the lower tier they want there money, what if you put a lower value coin in a higher tier do they give you money back?
Nop
Ugggh! They took you to the “Wood Shed”
Crack out the bunk ones and try NGC? 😜
I think you can send them as is to ANACS who grade them mentioning the flaw cleaned/scratched whatever. They are genuine coins your paying for a grade and a container to fight further damage. I recommend sending questionable coins to ANACS for the service.
including me you are the 4th person to get back a peace dollar suyb back from PCGS that had multiple cleaned 1934s and 35s that should not have been in the past 3 months, I think that they have a new peace dollar grader that just puts cleaned on a couple no matter what, LOL!!!! only a couple cleaned ones I agreed with . the other people where dealers that do not send ion cleaned coins !!!! thanks for the video!!!!!!
Bummer on some of those, but still a great collection.
That was rough to see all those details results 😢. I need only four more to fill my PCGS graded Peace dollar set (24S, 27D, 27S and 34S). Those that I have range from MS63 to MS66. I’ll be eventually able to get all in at least MS63, with the possible exception of the 34S, which is something like $5-6k+ at that level.
Yes scratched coins are ungradable. I remember learning that scratches like that would make them ungradable and was surprised that that would be the case.
1925 Peace Dollar MS66 is $415 as per Oct 2022 Greysheet. Up $25.
You shouldn't use Greysheet for PCGS graded coins though. Use the PCGS Price Guide. Most sell for over $450 in that grade.
Do you have a video on how you can tell if the coins has been cleaned?
Have a 60-100 watt bare bulb and spin the coin around in the light. If you see a bunch of micro lines dancing around that are all doing the same thing and are the same size is a dead giveaway on MS coins
He got questionable color on his 1901 Indian Penny that looked amazing
That's why I'll stick with bars and weight 🤔
Id resubmit all 10 under different name and see if they comeback different.
I hope this video is a good lesson for people to never ever ever clean your coins.
Wow. 10 coins is pretty devastating 😢
Cut them out and send them in again! Now thats a video
Use the next higher grading also 🤣
@@dallasescamilla8572 and who is going to pay it?
Send them back in the 10 in higher tier and I bet they come back with way less problems
E.T. says Ouch!!! and then reaches out with his glowing finger to heal Eliot from the pain of getting 10 ungradable coins from PCGS.
that is so sad. I hesitate to send my peace dollars in now. they all have a least one scratch
I have used ANACs for grading they mark cleaned coins “cleaned “ or swirled or whatever and they grade them with a number grade. I send them my questionable coins. I sought them out initially because I inherited some old Morgan’s and Peace dollars I remember cleaning with my dad in 1980 and was happy with it so I send them any coins I want graded but I don’t know the history of ( not in mint packaging). Sure things I send to NGC or these guys. I don’t know if it’s the same as you are doing. If the goal is to have all of a run of your collection graded by one company I would go with ANACS
Does PCGS include the identity of the person who graded the coin? Since this is subjective, seems there should be a way to call out unprofessional graders.
FINALLY!!!!
I don't like the tape they use on the interior boxes.
Well that goes to show you that pcgs has high standards so when you have an ms70 you know it went through the ringer. That's why I love pcgs. They didn't do you like that because they felt like it right lol. I only buy ms70 coinage when I acquire slab. Anything less makes me sad haha.
I'M NOT EVEN GOING TO BUY ANY SLABBED COIN ANYMORE, THEY LOOK JUST AS GOOD IN THE NEW SQUARE HOLDERS.
would he mind sharing the cost he had in sending off for grading, please?
Question. What are you going to do with those problem coins. Sell it like that or crack it and sell as lot?
You could have bought them graded cheaper than submitting those. I had the same problems with PCGS.
Ouch 👍
Peace Brother!
Just tossing this out there. I have an entire set of Peace Dollars in PCGS MS63. Any offers?
I would be interested. Just getting my feet wet in the silver world and love these Peace Dollars. Wish I had started looking a long time ago. Do you have a # in mind if you are serious about your set?
Great video, but does make me think twice whether I should send my Peace Dollars off to be graded.
i can't believe they wanted to charge your card before they sent your coins back. the 1925 ms66 is what did that. that first scratched one should not have been, the second scratched was in a very noticeable place, the tail feathers. you could have parked a mack truck in the tail feather scratch.
Sorry it didn’t work out. But very educational. 👍
I seen few scratches. But That why there coins are worth more. becasue they are tough. But you know i have nothing but respect for you. Sometimes not the results we want. Maybe try NGC.
That’s crazy
All those cleaned coins would be fine if you let PCGS "conserve" them.
Yes, PCGS was too harsh. I expect they were right that some of the coins were 'cleaned,' but I think they take it too far. Most of all, "scratched"? I've seen coins that came back as "damaged" with holes in them, or "environmental damage" for corroded copper, bronze or silver, but with a minor scratch, I think they could ding it a point or two, and still grade the coin. I think that's bs.
Why does pcgs still slab the coin if its ungradable?
Did u know they were cleaned before sending them off
I said in the video that I suspected that some were... more came back cleaned than I expected
I’m sorry, why do people deal with PCGS? They are too free with the cleaned bit IMHO.
I wouldn't send them my old comic books any more....
Hell ya it is I sent in a 1940 through 1964 dimes and all the ones I sent in higher tier no problems all I sent in lower tier I got screwed just like that broke them out and sent back in higher tier and only got back 4 upgradable instead of 19 so ya you pay for the slabs man it's a joke that's why I started using ANACS after that whole dibakal game.
How much did it cost you to have them graded?
28×however many at the low tier and probably 38 for the 3 on the high tier plus shipping with insurance
That's too Bad!
Send those 10 back on the higher tier....
I’m not so sure PCGS knows more about grading than we do. The ‘35 doesn’t look cleaned to me.
MS 66.... Thats a great coin..
@p¡nned by Silver Seeker• what is this number thing? Shows up all the time. We'll most times
@@shawn1744 its a bot that is spamming the channel. They want you to call them on a whatsapp number. Dont though, its always a scam. ALWAYS
don't hate the grader. there is a reason why pcsg coins hold value and you can't say I have a 1928 peace dollar and try to sell it to someone for what you think it's worth. They know if it's cleaned or not. These are old coins. I'm sure half of my book is the same way.
Should use ngc
the morale of this story is if you are not a good grader of raw coins stick to graded examples.
Your opinion but I've been grading coins for 20 years and lately they have been INCREDIBLY more strict. Either Way I still dead called more than one grade here including on the keys. These were getting graded regardless
You got to get yourself one of those digital microscopes everybody else has been show and telling
These were getting sent no matter what... I said in the original video that I thought some were cleaned. It was worse than I thought though admittedly. Oh btw... I have one lol
@@SilverSeeker I did not see original video. But some of the scratches you were talking about would be nice to see under magnification.
Seeing the scratches you were talking about may or may not detour me from sending coins in.
What will you do with the cleaned coins?
Crack them out bro
If I wanted you to send in a few of my coins how would I do that?
Just a thought on the 1925 MS 66 you looked up the Book Value from the Grey Sheet and not the Price Guide from PCGS which is actually $600 and most sell for over $450 in that grade... so you gave kinda sorta a wrong evaluation on the price through the Grey sheet 🤔 😳
I prefer using Greysheet for pricing myself.. PCGS website is always high and after you pay eBay fees you'll likely end up at greysheet value. :)
@@SilverSeeker I agree with a lot of people using Ebay. However I have a good friend of mine that rents a table at the local flea market for 100$ a season. You'd be surprised the business growth you can get without Ebay. And no Fees to a corporation!
There's more ways to sell other than Ebay or Local Coin shops! 😁
@@SilverSeeker Sellers can also use Heritage instead of Ebay if they wish which is only 10% cost for sells under $5000 instead of 13%.
How long did it take to get graded? ty
I'm sorry sad very expensive!
How long did it take for PCGS to process your submission? I quit using them because it took almost 3 months for them to post the grades. I was with them for over 2 years and delays in grading and slow delivery and grades that were too low for mint fresh proof coins. Now what would you do if you got an ms68 or ms69. Would you spend the extra money to get a 70 grade?
It was like May when I sent these off.
I always look at unboxing as their grading is as you state subjective. As a professional in the business YOUR OPINION is as valued as PCGS is!!!! When will dealers buy and sell these plastic coins and put THEIR OWN OPINION AS TO GRADE on each coin? You do realize how much money these services make by calling a coin cleaned or environmental damage, etc. If you dealers guarantee to buy back these coins at say 5% back of bid on the Grey sheet and sell at ask, there would be NO PROBLEM. Seem to remember that when grading services started that a big deal was that the service would BUY the coin as graded...anyone SELL a coin to PCGS at bid for their grade....I rest my case as to dealers guaranteeing to buy back THEIR OWN graded coins as to grade.....They charge you more for a ms66 grade BUT DON'T RETURN MONEY on what is worse! A COMPLETE CONJOB!!!!!!!!
I only own a few graded coins, so was wondering how the "ungradable" lable by PCGS will affect the coins value? Obviously if it was graded, you could look value right up in a book, but at the same time the slab gives the assurance it's genuine. Does that genuineness & mentioning the details are AU or Uncirculated at least raise the value enough to cover the cost of grading? I know people who want an AU or UNC set with actual grades on it might not want them, but others who still want a genuine coin from all years/mint marks might? Thanks!!!
The upgradable coins are not worth more in the slab. They're more valuable out of the slab.
PCGS lost all credibility with me after they graded the brand new nail that "accidently" fell into the press and got stamped.
The whole “cleaned” thing is a mystery to me. I can see a poorly done cleaning reducing a coins value, but literally ANY cleaning? Just seems like an artificial way to reduce populations and increase graded coin values…
Agreed!!!
i had considered sending a batch of coins in for grading ... Now i will not ... Total BS
Is Gainesville Coins legit? My check was received on 9/1st and cleared 7 business days later. They've yet to send the coins. They don't even reply to emails or voicemail. Suspecting I've been scammed.
Has anyone actually purchased from Gainesville Coins and received the coins? I've even called their customer service line multiple times and no one picks up.
I hope not. I called and spoke with them multiple times and even twice after placing my order for 7 one oz bars of gold and they’ve been professional and courteous everything I’ve called. They have good google reviews as well.
Any update on your orders? I hope you both have received them by now!!
Let me start by saying I am the antithesis of a koolaid drinker
Lower tier has nada to do with. It
They’re looking at them under very specific lighting conditions and have 2 independent graders and a finalizer that all independently agree. It’s just a cold dose of reality
My last 4 submissions consist of 77 coins and 74 of 77 straight graded. Of those, only 11 were regular submissions and 17 were economy
You have to learn what they like and don’t like and tailor your submission choices, or better yet, your purchases in general
Yes they charge for the cleaned coins … you have to select better
Fair but I've had specific experience with coins coming back as cleaned, re-sent, and coming back with no issues before, as have many others. The biggest dose of reality is that it's all at their discretion, not yours, and you pay them for that.
@@SilverSeeker that’s def true . I sent a 1896-O half dollar 3x to PCGS in 2014 which eventually graded AU58 after 2x called cleaned . It sold at heritage for $14500 as it was the first coin graded 58 (pop zero before) at a time when Everyman barber half registry set mania was on fire
That coin was a liner as are many meaning 50/50 cleaned or prob free. The fact is they’re tougher than ever today with the extreme volume and increase in demand and they’re going to err on the side of caution as there market makers
If you’re the buyer you appreciate the conservative approach. It also keeps values high for truly rare coins or conditionally rate coins
What you say is absolutely true though nowadays with gold shield and digital imaging it’s much harder to send a coin in after it’s been graded or digitally recorded as it is more likely to be found out it’s previously been submitted and docked with the 92 code
Grading is subjective. But pcgs is not doing its job.
Ngc is a better service. Imo
Pcgs sucks. Not worth the money
Dissapointing .
PGCS.? Any other coin grading company would have graded the coins and mentioned the scratch in the description. I believe that the best company to grade coins was and is the best company for doing it. The company is NGC . They give you honest and the best grade that they can give.
A coin that has a scratch on it should reflect in the grade and maybe bring it down a grade or something.
