SPOILER!!!!! The lead up: Ben knocking back the whiskies, dragging his sister Louise by the hair and flushing her head down the toilet at the back of the pub, throwing up in a sink and immediately kissing Abby (grossssss!) to trick her into thinking he had forgiven her. Then he persuaded her to take her blouse off...It was a farce that had me in fits of giggles.

If this was real life, then surely SOMEONE (Jack, Abi's Uncle maybe? If not Mick & Linda) would've intervened instead of allowing AN ASSULT to be committed in front of them and Abi would surely have pressed charges against Ben? However, this is a SOAP OPERA and, like in all dramas, Abi has done a bad thing and so needed to get her comeuppance.
How was that assault I think it's a pretty reasonable reaction to finding out that your girlfriend lied about the death of a baby

What Ben is doing is abuse, if it was Abi doing the exact same thing to Ben then it would be abuse - that is fair, what you are describing is a double standard where it is okay for a woman to do something but not okay for a man to do the same thing, which by definition is sexism. Yes, maybe the reactions to the switched scenario would be different and people would probably be a lot more accepting and understanding of it (because of the nature of our sexist society) but that should not make it more acceptable to you, otherwise you're the hypocrite.
