Hope you don’t mind if I jump in hers, but my not-so-inner music nerd just had to share a few little extra details as well as expand on what you said lol A requiem is much more than that. It’s a mass in the Catholic Church that is (for lack of a better word) ‘offered’ for rest for the souls of the dead (hence why it’s also known as the ‘Mass for the Dead’). You’re correct though in that the mass (and the music) itself are both usually (but not always) composed for funerals. The piece performed at the very beginning of ATEEZ’s stage is the ‘Lacrimosa’ from Mozart’s Requiem (and is ironic in that it is his final composition before he passed away) which remained unfinished until his fellow composer Franz Xaver Süssmayr (I believe that was his name, I’m positive on the last name but not the first and middle name lol) finished it (Mozart only completed the Introit, Kyrie, and the first 8 measures of the Lacrimosa (which are the ones you hear in the performance), as well as the Offertory but I’m not sure about that last one. But otherwise, really good stuff to point out because it’s easy to miss with everything else going on! ☺️
Like some already commented, ATEEZ performance was part of a bigger performance with other new boy groups (The Boys and Stray Kids) which are all participating in the show Kingdom. You should check the whole performance with everyone and the last dance battle. 🤯 And Mingi parts were mainly taken by Hongjoong (and a bit by Seonghwa). Last yearATEEZ did not get the rookie of the year in MAMA (TXT were the winners) and only were on "Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10" but fortunately this year they at least won this "Discovery" award in addition. ATEEZ is indeed prolific and as a reminder they often work with the same producers as Dreamcatcher (LEEZ and Ollounder). Speaking of Dreamcatcher, they just released today a new cover with their (fake) subunit "Yaya Time". 🤣
We have to watch the others and the dance off! It’s sounds really cool, and we’re kinda intrigued about Kingdom now...(also wondering if we should watch Queendom as we saw Mamamoo were on it...). Ah shame the didn’t win a rookie award last year (though txt are worthy too), but glad to hear they got recognition this year with Discovery. Their growth has been phenomenal! Even though Mingi wasn't there physically - Hongjoong was using Mingi's mic (I think) instead of his own white one. The 2Hos were out for *blood* with this performance - between Yunho's crazed grin (oh dear the possession is spreading...) and Jongho's wink I think I ded. And I'm trying to completely ignore my normal demonic biases because I'm still utterly shattered from everything. This performance seems that Ateez is representing Hades, the lord of the Underworld - so you're not off on the hellscape! Since they're performing on Kingdom (which I'm still iffy about given the nonsense that Mnet pulled on Road to Kingdom) with Stray Kids and The Boyz for sure. I *highly* rec watching Stray Kids' performance of Victory Song, they're totally representing Ares. (Also Felix's voice.)
All the members were out for blood. Honestly between the styling, dancing, winking, hip thrusting, and the fact answer is amazing.... dead... Everyone is raving about the Stray Kids stage, so we’ll def watch. Oh, We’re intrigued about Kingdom after all the MAMA buzz, what happened before!? 🤔
@@teacupfury6133 Basically I considered RTK an absolute shitstorm - pitting groups against each other in an elimination format where out of 6 groups, only one would get a 'ticket' to go to Kingdom. There were some good performances from everyone, but the voting/judging criteria was majorly suss to me since it seemed to follow the general voting rules for MAMA - whoever Mnet feels like giving the award to and it doesn't matter how good/bad a performance was or how fans voted, and heavily skewed air times. If Kingdom is run more like Queendom had been, then I wouldn't mind watching it, but if there's any eliminations, I'm out cause I can already guess who the 'winner' will be. (Yes I'm salty, but after nearly a decade in the K-pop arena, I've got Mnet figured out - this favoritism and awards stuff is old news to me. It's just what Mnet does.)

@@teacupfury6133 If it follows RTK, The Boyz - apparently one of mnets project groups (I don't know this for certain take it with a grain of salt bc my mind is half blasted from having insomnia (being an InSomnia is great, having insomnia is not lol) so I've not done any research into that as of yet) and I read a comment that said before the first episode aired (or on the first ep) that they predicted that tbz would win it bc mnet favored them (which I want to point out is hella unfair to tbz members -idols work hard and they don't deserve the shenanigans their companies do) and they were right on the money. SKZ is from JYP so yeah they've got some big 3 privilege in money and such, but 3 of their members actually do all of their songs from writing to composition to production (their production group is called 3RACHA - pronounced just like Sriracha and I am still so mad at that pun lol) so as much as they're under JYP they still do a lot of their own stuff. Big 3 actually doesn't mean as much anymore like with BigHit and artists forming their own companies after their contract ends. Ateez and SKZ are more known internationally than domestically while the opposite is true for tbz so idk if it's possibilities for more domestic popularity or what. I don't trust any of mnet voting tbh - the produce stuff was just the icing on the cake and I was told ages ago that MAMA awards are given to whoever mnet feels like giving them to (but good thing about mamas is that if someone doesn't win something - or is being used to hype up an mnet show - they won't be performing or invited so just looking at the performance lineup tells me if it's worth watching lol) and to not stress out about voting for it

Heya! First of all, I’ll comment on the rest as I see it, but I just had to stop in and comment about the ‘arrow’ you pointed out at 6:29. A lot of people think it was randomly placed, but in fact it has a crucial purpose. The arrow/tape signals where the center of the stage is for the artists. A lot of people think that the idols just rehearse and use the other members to ‘spot check’ themselves and where they fit in the choreography, but having a spot on the stage/rehearsal space, etc. that indicates where the center of the stage is helps all of the artists remain aligned (and to maintain the formations that they make), and helps give them a point of reference to correct themselves if they tilt or move in any direction too much. I know I saw a few people say they found it distracting, but honestly with a stage that massive and all of the stuff going on visually, it’s crucial to have it there (also, stage crews often find ways of camouflaging it in the floor so that the artist can still see it but the audience won’t notice it, but that was near impossible with a stage this broad and massive). So in regards to what you said at 6:42 about how “it’s really not part of what’s going on” it actually is, you just weren’t aware of why it is. 😉 but I hope that gave you some insight! Also just a sidenote, but if you want an example of how crucial it is and how artists use it for reference, look at the arrow and watch Yeosang right after you pressed play at 6:49. Look at the way he walks right down the middle where the arrow is, part of why he knows how to do that is all the practice time but also the way the members have placed themselves on either side of the arrow. It helped with spacing and keeping that formation clean. ☺️ just some rambling thoughts from a former dancer :P As for the performance itself, I agree wholeheartedly with what you said about their styling. It really fits them and they looked absolutely amazing in it (especially San with the sort of tear drop on his face that you pointed out! Which sidenote: if you check out their Answer live stages, you’ll see that he has the exact same thing on his face for those 😁). 11:52 you nailed it with the hell comment actually! So others have mentioned how their stage was connected with two other groups, but I’d like to give more insight on that. There was a Greek mythology concept connecting the three (started by The Boyz, who did that concept during Road to Kingdom, a competition show). Stray Kids were meant to be Ares (God of War), I believe The Boyz were meant to be either Helios the Sun God or Zeus, and then ATEEZ were Hades (God of the Underworld). Also cohesive is such an accurate word for everything that happened in that performance and I agree wholeheartedly about the remix. I got CHILLS listening to the choir any time they would come in, especially when they came in that final chorus. Thank you for your reactions. Ateez is in a battle for the kingdom along with The Boyz and Stray kids for the 2020 MaMa performances. They are all 3 epic performances for 2020. The battle this time is with k-pop boy groups and will continue to the first of next year. Don't know yet the other k-pop groups only 3 confirmed in the 2020 MaMa awards. Check out the triangle dance battle for the crown too. It has 1 member from each of those groups. San (Ateez), Hyunjin (Stray Kids) and Juyeon (The Boyz). This is Stray Kids and Ateez first Kingdom but it is The Boyz 2nd time for the Kingdom battle.
All 3 performances were awesome. The only complaint about the triangular battle is that it was too short (we've being greedy). Do the winners normally go on to compete in the next season too? We've excited now to see who else will be in the line up! 🤩
