    DO NOT USE THE WHITE TEFLON TAPE, USE THE YELLOW WHICH IS HYDROCARBON RESISTANT.

    White Plumbers Tape is for use with Water & Air. You want Yellow Plumbers Tape for Natural Gas & Propane. Gas will slowly eat at the White tape making for a possibly dangerous situation.

    Great for getting started especially for low temp metals like aluminum. You can also do copper, but it does take quite a bit more gas . Everything mentioned in the video is what I got in my kit, everything arrived in good working order, i have used this furnace to smelt about 10lbs of copper, and 50lbs of aluminum and i am still using the same crucible and tongs that came with it. I bought a hi-temp apron, hi-temp gloves, and a face shield similar to what was in this video. I have had no problems with the product and for the money it is a fun, light weight, portable solution, that is great to get started.

    Oh my....do NOT use standard white Teflon tape for GAS CONNECTIONS. Using the plumbers white Tefln tape IS DANGEROUS because a leak may occur from usingit! Get the YELLOW GAS TAPE that looks like Teflon tape that is FOR as connections.

    How would this furnace work for smelting gold ore, black sands, cupelling gold in cupels, simple melting of gold/silver using a borax flux? Im not looking to do large smelts rite away but im just geting into hard rock sampling for gold and other precious metals. Also roasting and smelting black sands from cons.

    Not trying to be a critic I really enjoyed the tutorial , that plastic face mask is a bad idea , if you wear that and get a back burn of any kind you risk having melting plastic stuck to the face, a welders helmet is a better idea.

    So we just got a furnace setup - similar design but not the exact model from this video. Is it normal for the tube to be smoking? I mean, it is painted but it seems that the fire is burning inside of it, is this normal? Or should it be more like a jet and the fire burning only in the furnace itself? As in, outside of the tube.

      Not sure what you mean, but the flame will never flow back. The pressure combined with the pure propane in the hose will always prevent that

  • @jmac8092

    Do not believe this video. 1st there is no regulator gauge, 2nd there is no cutoff at the input side of the hose. There is no plumber pipe tape, instead u get a little rubber gasket. Do make sure to spray soapy water to check for leaks, had to buy new clamps and hose because the supplied clamps leaked and could not be sealed. This is not my first rodeo and even with a heat detecting temperature probe, in calm air, in the shade, empty crucible, it was impossible to stabilize the temperature of this thing. Will work for melting aluminum cans but not sure if I trust it to work on anything else. Next time I will just make one from the many DIY vids on the net. If your first time and you are lazy buy this thing but do not believe this video.

    can we use LPG (used to cook or heat food) for melting aluminum in a furnace?

    • @brettjc0483
      @brettjc0483 Před 2 lety

      I’d use caution but it is a mix of butane and propane so maybe.

    • @shdwhealer
      @shdwhealer Před rokem +1

      @@brettjc0483 LPG gas is propane. Butane is what is in cigarette lighters. In most countries LPG is strictly propane. In a few countries they do mix various amounts of butane in with the propane, but the difference is negligible. In the US, LP gas, Liquid Propane, LPG, etc, are all terms for propane.
      The only difference would be judging your pressure to heating temp ratio

    • @shdwhealer
      @shdwhealer Před rokem +1

      Propane gas and LPG gas are the same thing. LPG (liquid petroleum gas) is just another name for propane.
      So called "natural gas" is methane which is different. You could conceivably use methane for this as long as you had all the proper equipment.
