  • Kyaka 2 refugee settlement (Western Uganda) has a stunting rate that stands at a whopping 45.4% according to the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey of 2022. This is way higher than the national average of 30%.
Childhood stunting is one of the most significant impediments to human development, globally affecting approximately 162 million children under the age of 5 years.
Nonprofit Toil and Promote Agriculture(TAPA) has pioneered a multi-sectoral approach to curb the rising malnutrition challenges that face migrants, especially their children. Though the government of Uganda has been waxed lyrical for its open door system, in collaboration with partners, the migrants can only be afforded a meager stipend and are allocated a small and inadequate piece of land for survival and crop farming.
