    The Lima has evolved over the last few years and is easily one of the fastest paddles on the planet. The new 2022 Prepreg Lima paddle brings something different to paddle design. With the reduction in blade volume it allows an already proven stable blade shape to become even easier to use for both the top end racers as well as the intermediate/beginner paddlers too.

      This is my choice too, 68,5 kg ,the right size is M. Here is how to calculate your ideal blade size. Take your weight of 70 kg in pounds, 154 lbs and divide by 4 = 38,5lbs Add 45 to the quarter of your weight: 38,5 +45 = 83,5 square inches = 538, 7 square centimeters. The M size Lima is okay at 534 cm²

    Great video as always Reuben 🤙
    We really need these brands to have a standardised way of measuring blade area!! Please 🙏
    I guess it must have just been the added stiffness that made my elbows tweak on that paddle, so maybe a play with the shafts.
    You could really feel how stiff the blade was with the ribs though 👍

    I have the 2020 Lima pre preg fixed shaft in medium blade and its been amazing for surfing. The enduro tear drop shape wasn't for me, the lima really lets me get the cadence up. Thanks for the 2022 review, looks like some interesting updates.

      Hey Andrew, Thanks for the heads up. Dave one of the SB riders uses a Lima in the surf too. He loves the feel of it and like you say the fast cadence.
      I don't think this new 2022 will be as good for that. Especially if you are like me and use the back of your paddle to brace a-lot on the wave. Thanks Reuben

      I kinda agree about the old limas being good for surf as well. The flatter blade doesn't get caught when chucking the paddle around in the water. My above comments referred to flat water paddling. Thought I better clear that up.

      Just got it on my hands for 2 weeks now and did my first long distance race (10.5k). Nice piece of engineering again from SB. Very light and stiff. But this is to be expected with this prepreg model. I can only compare it to my old carbon Innegra Fanatic race blade of similar surface area & shape. My first impressions are in line with your review. The very effective reach and catch phases thanks to elongated shape (reach) and low thickness (catch). I feel really the difference during the reach, especially having a 28" board. I can also make very smooth and nice J strokes without effort while with my other blade it can go sometimes squirrely. The release phase is also way easier than my other blade. After my long distance, I did not feel any pain in the shoulders. The shaft is not slippery and like the "click" adjustment. May go to the XL size in the future.

    • @didierplouhinec4899
      @didierplouhinec4899 Před 2 lety

      Tell me if you got water trapped inside the shaft /blade junction even after you rince and dry the salty water which enters into the adjustable shaft. My Lima carbon was sent back to Starboard HQ 12 days after purchase . Waited 5 weeks for repair and 12 days after ( 8 paddle sessions) the problem happens again. Worst than a Ducati ! Starboard must admit my paddle is defectuous and make a deduction of the price ( 5800 Thb) on the Lima pre preg M fixed oval shaft S40 I have ordered 12000Thb) and they can keep it. This time I will not be wrong buying an adjustable shaft but a fixed oval one.

    Hi Reuben, thanks for this great video!
    Can you confirm that the release phase is similar, if not the same, to the 2021 model? I feel that the blade changes from 2020 to 2021 have resulted in a degradation of the release phase. The video footage seems to confirm that the 2022 model shows the same effect.

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 2 lety

      Thats a good question Christian. I would say that new 2022 blade comes out of the water faster then 2021 but it feels very close to when the release happens. If that makes sense? Thanks Reuben

    It’s impressive how much effort the guys @ Starboard put in R&D. In my next life I want to work as an engineer for Starboard - it’s already too late to do the switch in my present life. Each time I think there’s no room for improvements but they disapprove me year after year. If I turn my head back and look at the recent past, the gear from 10 years ago look like as taken from the stone age. So there’s my question: how competitive is the SUP gear (paddles and boards) from, say, 10 years ago compared to the modern gear?

    This is crazy I am even watching this. Shows just how deep the rabbit hole goes when I looked up this paddle and it costs 3:times what I just paid for a kit including inflatable board, paddle and pump. And even more expensive ones exist. Huge gap between serious races and those that just want to get out on the water and get a little exercise in summer.

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 2 lety

      Yeah its right up there on price and technical design. Like you say, you don't all need it to paddle. But you will be surprised how many paddles at this price point get sold. And they are not all performance paddlers! Thanks for watching and commenting, Reuben SUPboarder

    The 2019 Starboard Lima and Lima ltd I found to be aweful. Not grip in the water and flutter badly. The next design was a BIG steptowards a better grip and placement and reduced flutter. I hadn't noticed how much the original concave didn't grip until I bought my Black Projecy Hydro then the Hydro X. Good to see thay have attempted to address the power loss problems of the previous design.
    An interesting point I have discovered is that beginner and poor paddlers HATE this design . Because they don't draw the blade out properly so this type of scooped blade pulls down with the lift and makes them feel unstable.
    In Australia getting a more flexi shaft used to be very difficult. The stiff shafts I could get were way too stiff. Hopefully they have fixed this issue here.
