I forgot to say in the video that guests do also need to be unhappy enough to become vandals. This means that if you drop a very happy guest in a part of your park with a lot of litter, it will take a long time for them to become a vandal as the litter first needs to lower their happiness enough.
Without also lowering their energy too much.
When people are content, fat and happy, beneficiaries of the status quo, they have little desire to rebel or act out. But when their situation deteriorates enough, and it becomes clear that the compact they thought they signed up for isn't delivering on the other end of the bargain, they begin to feel like the system exists to exploit them more than it does to support or coexist with them. Why uphold a system that doesn't respect you, or that expects much more out of you than it's ever willing to give back? That sort of discontent is what foments the desire to buck a system and its rules altogether
I was wondering when a guest will throw their litter on the path. How long does it take for a geust to not find a bin before it drops litter?
@@chompythebeast I have a feeling you are a fan of the extreme heights scenario, considering the park was built upon the philosophy of maximizing the happiness of the guest class, and not with the goal of turning a personal, virtually endless profit.
Thanks to your comment I realize my first introduction to the concept of a post scarcity society was at five years old when my only concern was why no one wanted to ride my mine train coaster that wrapped around the map a half dozen times. Thanks Comrade Chompy. May your mutual aid network prosper.
I ❤️ this game
I ❤️ this channel so much

Imagine seeing someone not putting their trash in the bin next to them so you destroy the bin in your anger.
"If you won't use the bin, THEN NOBODY WILL USE THE BIN!!!!"
Sounds sort of chaotic neutral. Just embarrassing the individual, shouting at them, destroying the bin they should have used
And then drown the litterbug
"You've become the very thing you swore to destroy."
The Anakin Skywalker jokes are flooding in so fast I can't even choose one.
Let's not forget they can also destroy the solid STONE benches from the Egyptian set. as kid I thought that wouldn't be possible.
i always assumed they were hollow plastic after i saw that haha

As a kid I always got so scared of their angry faces, so I immedately drowned them to get rid of them so I didn't need to see their faces again. I still get the shivers looking at them now, lmao.
Now there's a good vandalism policy
I still drown them as I don't see any other way to get rid of their problematic presence

The RCT guests are superhuman. They can keep up a full sprint indefinitely, survive thousands of Gs and bend metal with their bare hands.
the rct guests are Bruce Willis from unbreakable. superhuman in every situation except in water
Don't forget they fall slower if they don't feel like
They're also filled with nitroglycerin, as they explode if they fall off a golf course.
But also none of them can swim for more than like 5 seconds - their one weakness

I love the idea that everyone who visits the park is a potential violent criminal on the precipice of madness, who will cause property damage because there's too much litter on the ground
I mean, you can't be sane to constantly sprint around the park and ride the 700km tall coaster.
Turns out RCT is set in a dystopian world where roller coaster corporations bred everyone to need to be constantly entertained by clean theme parks or they'll destroy everything.

I spent my entire childhood thinking there was a cool vandalization animation that I was missing and went crazy stalking angry guests to try to see it in action

It's easy to explain why vandals don't attack other guests in their anger: society in the RCT2 world has a very strict taboo against it, because of their incredible strength and resilience. A simple bar brawl between these superhumans would lay waste to an entire city.
With great power comes great responsibility. If only superman and batman would put their egos aside for the betterment of society. Even the most powerful beings we have imagined in pop culture could learn a lesson from Chris Sawyer's peeps.

@@Lemon_Inspector oh, to live in universe where the greatest crime ever committed is an act of mild, justified vandalism.
You know things get real serious when one guest pushes another into the water. That's a death sentence right there.
Also the only way a guest dies without violently exploding, water has anti-explosive properties with guest physiology I guess.
Sounds plausible. 😂
Gonna be honest here: If I stepped in numerous pools of vomit after paying big dollars on amusement park rides, I'd probably break stuff too

Well, it kind of does because they get tired.
Prisons don't solve problems in real life either lmao
what if the guests revolted?
Once when I was younger I didn't realise quite how many bins you need to place to keep the paths clean. Guests were littering everywhere, so I put a big sign at the entrance saying "Please put your litter in the bins provided". For some reason none of the guests paid attention to it
@@andrewparsons7432 quite rude of them

El Presidente in a nutshell
In OpenRCT2, I hope they add a feature that when a security guard encounters a broken bench/lamp post they just replace it with a new one and charge you whatever it would cost. Also have tick box like handyman to whether they do this or not.
Yeah replacing broken benches is such a chore
Perhaps this is something Mechanics could do instead, like in Parkitect.
In Planet Coaster you see all the animation of them breaking, dropping trash bins etc, and when they are caught by the police they are escorted to the exit, it is very cool.
Same with pickpockets
... There are vandals in Planet Coaster??? I've legit never seen 'em in that game... Yo, now I wanna make a shitty park just to see 'em.

This must've worked slightly differently in RCT1 or I had a glitch - I distinctly remember having a vandal who kept the very angry face but was very happy and kept making happy comments "This park is so well priced!" "These paths are so clean!" etc. It was hilarious to imagine him shouting the compliments through gritted teeth since he was saying them with that face.
I think it was because as a kid, I thought benches were stupid (I HATED when my family would stop riding stuff and just want to sit down for a while IRL) and didn't understand that trash cans actually did something in the game since I didn't see guests using them. So if my park had any decorations at all, they were entirely accidental, or jumping fountains.
Anyways, glitch or not I had a guy for a VERY long time (more than an RCT year) who just ran around angrily shouting nice things as loud as he could. It was beautiful and I've always wanted to recreate it but never found success.
"wooden coaster 1 was really good value!" Said Dumbledore, calmly.
To *become* a vandal they must be unhappy, but once they are happy enough they can stay a vandal but won't break anything. IIUC it's random when they revert to a normal state from the vandal mode, so it's plausible to have a very happy guest in the "vandal" state who won't break things but just hasn't reverted to being a normal guest.
Maybe he was a rival theme park owner, jealous of how nice your park was... 🤔
"Grrrr Roller Coaster 1 was great 😡"
-the vandal, probably
I witnessed a vandal destroy a bench once, suffice it to say he had an “accidental” drowning
At least in RCT1, vandals do break benches with guests already on them. This is why you sometimes see guests sitting on a broken bench.
The sitting guests were left in shock! 🤣🤣
lol a few difference between RCT1 and 2
Is this from vandals breaking benches in use or from guests using broken benches? I'll see the same thing.
Local man, who sprints as fast as a marathon runner, can survive a huge amount of G force, can bend metal with bare hands drowns in a puddle.
I never did understand why NONE of the park guests could swim.
As a kid, I didn't know you had to replace the broken stuff manually so once something was broken I'd just wait for the handyman to fix them, but they never did.
There are two things that scared me alot in RCT & RCT2: Accidents (which kinda counts as jumpscare since the window of the ride pops up and plays the crash's sound) and the raging face of a vandal guest, the face of pure nightmare
The 2 dislikes are those two vandals who broke six benches but managed to leave the park before you drown them
Nah they just couldn't find the exit.
@@exeggcutertimur6091 guests are lost and can't find the park exit.
When I'm bored I make a quarantine center for the enraged guests to calm down and become tired
when I was a kid I remember I would be borderline in tears if there were too many vandals breaking things - my solution to flood the park with security was more like a bandaid than a fix XD
Pretty much the American police force, imo.
Always wondered about this myself, thanks for the video Marcel Vos.
While I know that lamps don't contribute anything concrete to the underlying simulation, I've found myself using them a lot more after enabling the day-night cycle in OpenRCT2. They really do make things look nicer!
Now if only there were a way to light up rides in the same manner...
Vandal; Slaps guest.
Guest; *Turns into a red mist
One Punch
So broken benches are caused when guests go hulk mode
as we learned previously, guests are full of explosives. vandals don’t attack other guests, not because they’re considerate, but because they’re afraid their victim will explode on them
I always loved the backwards thinking of reacting to a dirty park by making it dirtier
Mod idea: vandals beat up guests.
Another mod idea: vandals bend the steel tracks of rollercoasters.
Hell.
In the original rct I have seen tired guests sitting on a broken bench. I just put a few guests on a single path tile with benches and waited. It is years ago though, but my memory is pretty clear since I was surprised about it.
Would be cool if there was an animation sprite for guest destroying the path element. With all the detailed pixel sprites for all sorts of animations in the game, I'm wondering why Chris Sawyer didn't make this one in particular.
I believe later on he considered himself rather lazy for not creating certain animations. it's the same as he didn't let guests swim to the nearest by shore, but instead just let them drown when being put into water.
Sort of how the handymen can just materialize a lawnmower from their pocket - the angry guest suddenly pulls out a jackhammer and starts going to town on the path.
We need the vandal in smash, he could be so overpowered!
Isn't that just little mac? Gets rage check, powerless when grabbed check, can't jump check, uses only fists as weapons check, Drowns in water check.
3:20 Marcel vos: ''You dont place any bins, benches or lamp posts''
Also Marcel vos: i put a bench in the left corner hiding by the small trees, just to make sure they still have enough benches to not get angry.
Oops, I thought I had removed every path ornament from that view.
I now want a mod of extra aggressive vandals, that they take it out on park staff and other guests, beating them up. Or even that they sabotage your rides, causing them to break down, or dare I say, crash~
At that point it's a criminal gang mod or terrorism mod
@@rrai1999 Hell yeah, the terrorism mod for Open RCT2, nice
Play Tropico 2 and you basically have that with pirates
Vandals get angry because there is more litter on the ground, breaks bins and there will be more litter adding more fuel to their fiery anger to break stuff.
I swear I remember seeing guests sitting on a broken park bench in RCT1...
The faces in RCT2 look so funny lmao
Wait a second. Lamps don't do anything? What? :-0 We have to revisit that
If vandals could attack other guests and end up enraging them, you could end up with some funny Dwarf Fortress-style spirals in your park. I imagine that they may have considered that as a reason not to allow people to attack each other (on top of any sprites needed and other work.)
Thanks for the video, it explains a lot. The streets of Rome in 445 must have been full of vomit and trash, so the Vandals got angry and sacked it!
When I played RCT2 as a kid, I though the benches would just break over time and need to be replaced.
Similairly, I thought vandalism was just graffiti on scenery and I thought I just never saw it.
Ah yes, that part of the scenario when my rating starts tanking because of vandalism so I have to set specific patrols for my handymen and pause the game to replace every broken bench and bin.
It's always a good day when Marcel posts a new video. I haven't played RCT2 in forever, but his pleasant voice and the way he explains things is delightful to watch for some reason.
I stopped playing RCT 1 and 2 what feels like 20 years ago (never touched 3 for my own sanity's sake).
And this channel keeps revealing mechanics to me that I didnt know existed and that would have made my RCT runs so much easier.
And I'm absolutely hooked. Marcel is doing a really good job at exposing and explaining these small details where knowing about all of them can very easily make or break a run.
The way you handle your park is like Dutch handle their country. Very good !
As A Kid i rarely saw the rage mode and i was always so interested and happy when i saw one lol
Also, I'm always surprised that in super min-maxed parks people don't do exclusively underground pathing more. Guests cannot litter/puke underground, so if you ONLY do underground pathing it eliminates the need for trashcans, handymen, and security guards entirely. All you need then is mechanics (and that depends on the rides), and entertainers (only if you want to though). That's decent chunk of sprites saved if you're needing them all to max the guests out, and it's a decent bit of money saved on staffing. It's also a cool way to potentially have an entirely staff-less park!
RCT2 park customers are truly superhumans. super fast super strong and constantly involved when something explodes....
RCT is clearly the most terrifying video game to live in. The average person is capable of breaking a stone bench with their bare hands.
I swear I have seen guest sitting on broken benches at least a dozen times
Marcel - "Who on earth would do such a terrible thing?"
Also Marcel - murders guests into the void to avoid losing park rating
I have encountered this when RCT2 first came out and was wondering how my benches broke. I watched the bench carefully and as soon as it became broke, I clicked on the guests and found out the angry face. While founding this, I noticed no angry people in my park with at least 2 handy man and angry people start "creating" when I accidentally forgot to place a handy man at the exit where there was vomit everywhere. Than the angry man was there..
In short, I experienced this "vandal" when playing the game myself. :-)
It's nice to see this video, explained by you in a better way, because you can explain things way better ;-)
Oh man, I hope they don’t break my favorite Ferris Wheel “Sex Place” 1:09
I was wondering if I was the only one who has noticed that
"I want to get off Sex Place"
This is a mystery that I've always been curious about. I actually had no idea that peeps could go into a blind rage and break everything in sight, but now it makes perfect sense.
Imagine if vandals could shank other park guests. The game would immediately turn into Prison Architect
This topic is admittedly a bit sad, but very very interesting to see it anyways, especially your analysis about the data's, how they become it and so on! Very interesting like always :)
It took me so long to realize those were caused by guests... I first saw broken benches on Dynamite Dunes and thought that they had melted because of the heat and tried replacing them with 'proper' stone furniture :D
Thanks, I was always wondering why I had no vandals even though my paths were covered in vomit.
2 guests already pressed dislike, you need to hire more guards
The AI in RCT2: I'M SO ANGRY AT THIS DISGUSTING PATH I'M GONNA MAKE IT MORE DISGUSTING.
tbf, people don't always act rationally when they're angry.
Brings back memories of me and my sisters RCT1 pukey park (that was its name) where we just didn't hire any path cleaners and made loads of roller coasters . Eventually we got an award for "most disgusting park" or something and it was hillarious . Must have been nearly 20 years ago

I've never played this game, but somehow your videos turned up in my feed, and I can't stop watching 😂
I literally had no idea there was an animation, and that just the one vandal would smash everything! Thanks for the video
I've been binging all these videos. They are just a great time to watch. I grew up with RCT3 and played a good bit of RCT1 but I think I might check out the 2nd game.
I am now going to make an entire park filled with angry guests. No issue with that, right?
Wow, fresh episodes! I thought the RCT series were all 2 years old. Neat.
You make me wanna go back and play it! =D
I always wondered about how vandalism happens, but never looked it up. Thanks for the great niche content!
I haven't played this game in like 18 years, but for some reason I keep coming back to your videos :D
Maybe it's just the game design and mechanic aspect.

The Zoo Wee Mama! really got me
Imagine getting so pissed off at some litter and some vomit in a theme park, you make the park look even worse by breaking things.#RCTLogic
It’s also counter productive. Benches prevent vomit, and trash cans prevent littering.
Now I'm imagining a version of RCT2 where guests in the Rage Mood go on homicidal rampages, punching and injuring other guests and park employees until a security guard tasers them.
Now I'm curious if you could cost efficiently have a grid of security workers, spaced.. 14? tiles apart on a single unescapable tile (maybe hidden underground!?) and never have any vandalism. I might have to go download OpenRCT2 tonight and try it out!
I fear no man but that THING...?
(Vandal destroying metal and stone)
It scares me....
I'm glad that you still upload videos about RCT2.
By the way Marcel, back when I was playing RCT2, your videos were extremely helpful. Because this game has A LOT going on under the hood, without your vast knowledge, we wouldn't fully understand the game mechanism.
But I think your videos are pretty random. I think it would be great if you organize them into different categories. Videos like this one for example, belong to the game mechamism playlist. Videos about making guests disappeared by using the maze belong to Tips and tricks playlist. Videos about making invisible roller coasters or teleporting go-karts belong to Designing playlist, etc.
Your knowledge about this game is immense. I believe one would take hours and hours of learning to be as good as you. So I think organizing your videos would help newbie learning more efficient.
Thank you again for the content all this time.

It would be fun to have the guests able to hurt other guests, could give the first aid station another use (injured guests going to them for recovery) and have the security guard be more useful by actually kicking out guests, in fact guards should already kick out the vandals that break things.
