The stop sign is a lot lower than a traffic signal. No, the sign is well placed. If drivers cannot keep their eyes moving and see the sign, they a guilty of dangerous driving. Answer: have a cop car follow the school bus around, the city will get tons of revenue.

This happened to me when I was in kindergarten. I had just gotten off the bus and was walking across the road to my daycare when all of a sudden a car came speeding down the road. Luckily someone nearby saw and yelled for me to jump out of the way. I may not be alive today if it wasn’t for that person who witnessed what had happened. When my mom found out, she tried to get information from the bus driver and from the person who witnessed it, and tried to get help to figure out who’s car it was and make sure that they were stopped. But no one would help, no one would listen. Any other incident like that would be in the news, but mine was never. They refused, never even tried to look into what happened and I’m not really sure why. And I’m not sure who it was, but whoever yelled for me to get off the road, thank you so,so much for saving me

Bing Bong Bing Bong RapaDapaDingDong it wasn’t my fault, it was school hours in a school zone and he wasn’t only not paying attention, but he was over the school zone speed limit. And there’s a law in that area where even if there wasn’t a crosswalk there, you’re supposed to stop at intersections. It’s really complicated to explain, but I wasn’t at fault.
Ignoring a school stop sign should be a $500-$1000 fine not $160
This makes me grateful for the bus driver I had in high school. Everyone said she was over the top but she would get out and put on a vest and hold up a stop sign whenever kids had to cross on the opposite side.
I hope your bus driver had secured the bus & taken the keys with her when she got off the bus to stop traffic with her stop sign. If not, that is actually incredibly dangerous.

When I was in elementary school in the late 60's one of my school mates lost her 7 year old brother when he was hit crossing the road to catch the bus. Buddy was such a sweet little blond haired boy. So sad 😞

I’ve always been in a small school but I never knew that it’s normal to have 100 kids per bus. Even before COVID hit, we had 40 kids on each bus. I thought it was big.
this happened to me when i was in elementary school. i remember my bus driver followed the person who ignored the stop sign through almost the entire neighborhood, it was kinda scary.
This is a great person who went out of her way for the safety of the children I hope that she is not the only one

In Grade 8 I gave my bus driver a bag of pebbles. Anytime a car would drive past the flashing lights he'd throw one or multiple at it. The passing stopped after three people got broken windsheilds. When people complained about broken windshields and the bus driver should be ticketed, the cops just ticketed them for passing a bus with flashing lights using the bus's dashcam as evidence. That was a fun month

There should be a device that, when the stop sign is engaged, a motion detecting camera snaps pics of vehicle passing by. On the other side of the stop sign. Have those photos sent to the local PD. Send those ppl a hefty ticket. Maybe they'll learn.

In Korea, there is law that all school, academy buses should have a helper who gets down from the bus and sees if they safely went in. Wish that law was in other countries, too.

Here in Missouri our bus drivers for our district are trained to pull in the middle of the road to block the other lane. No passing cars unless they want to hit a bus.
When I was getting off the bus I car almost hit me and my uncle was outside and saw it he FLIPPED OUT and literally chased the car it was scary but hilarious 😂

i was almost hit in middle school. luckily my driver saw and yelled for me to stop but the audacity of drivers to not stop for less than a minute is crazy to me

Mines are very protective, im also my bus drivers (I have two, one in the morning and one in the afternoon) fav cuz I keep everyone safe on the bus, whenever there is not enough room left I make space for them and cuz I'm responsible I can stand up on the bus just in case someone happens or when the bus driver needs help ;-; im also my P.E teacher's fav, my library teacher's fav, sometimes my music teacher, and my art teacher's fav, and also I'm the teacher's pet ;-; imagine how hard I have to do when I work for them... A very simple solution would be to have high resolution cameras that would capture both the face of the driver and the license plate... The ticket would come in the mail. Just like traffic cams.

While I agree with the cameras, I have to disagree with them mailing a ticket for them to have the possibility of just paying it. I want them to HAVE to go to court and explain to a judge why tf they couldn’t stop.
Well one of my neighbors who doesn't like me had a replica of my license plate and ran through traffic cams, and I spent over $5,000 in tickets until he eventually got caught by a real police which found out what's going on. Need to know who the actual driver is to give out tickets.

In the drivers manual it explicitly says that you should stop when the school bus lights turn on, once the buses lights are off and it starts to move then you can continue driving

Some school districts already have an arm that extends into the lane on the left of the school bus., I would make it three lanes long, and a tad lower, so anyone who has the gall to run the sign has to deal with a broken windshield, and possibly a serious head injury, and they'd have no one to blame but themselves (that's the most beautiful thing to me)

This happened on my bus everyday and My bus stop was on a busy street and are bus driver said “If somebody’s not stopping take your phone out and record them I don’t care if you phone out for it just do it.” I’m not sure when ever happened to those drivers but I don’t take the bus anymore but pretty obvious it still happens daily.

It didn’t happen this way but once, back in 2019 I think, I was crossing the road when I was outside on a walk and a car stopped a millimeter away from me and then the same happened just seconds later to a woman who was crossing the road with her child in a stroller

I remember, in 3rd grade, that my bus stopped at a daycare to drop of some students, and a car flew by the bus, nearly hitting a kid. Following the car was a police car. Everyone cheered and the car got pulled over and got fined $200!

Hopefully the camera was able to capture the licence plates! My friend in elementary school almost got hit while trying to cross the street after getting off of the bus and if she hadn't stopped walking across when she did she would have been severet injured or dead. The fine for not stopping should be so much higher than it is, and if a cop is nearby I think they should be arrested.

The money won't bring back the child, but it will serve as a deterrent. If people know that it's going to bankrupt them, maybe more drivers will be a little more cautious. And that will save lives.

In Quebec this is 9 demerit points, the same as failing to yield to a fire truck while tailgating another car and not wearing a seatbelt.
Is this everywhere? Bc this never happened when I was in school and now that I'm driving I don't see this happening.
The reporter says "the police can't be everywhere". That's true, but an unmarked car could follow the bus and start laying tickets on people. Hit drivers in the pocketbook (with fines and increased insurance rates for things like this) and they'll start to fall in line.
+Know Whey Or at least a police camera on the stop sign or something. Like hell, they put them on traffic lights for the purpose of generating cash, why not put them somewhere useful to save kids lives

same thing happened where im living my bus driver snapped one day and said: CAN ANYONE IN THE BACK PULL OUT A PENCIL AND A PIECE OF PAPER AND WRITE DOWN ALL THE CAR TAGS OF THE CARS THAT DOESNT STOP WHEN I PUT OUT THE STOP SIGN
I have seen exactly the same thing,when a child is hit by a bad driver it will be too late

It could be made legal for bus drivers though. Considering the absolutely insane changes made to vehicle laws it would actually be a common sense change
