So I have a question, you keep your toes from pointing out. Why have I been taught to keep them out??? Is it only because I'm from North Dakota and they could tell? By the way, I don't live there any longer...I moved west! One state.
But, on the other hand, I just sold an awesome lil Duel Rey /Gray's Starlight mare that could not be ridden in spurs because of the delightful and oblivious owners that took her out on a two hour tour as a long two year old/ three year old, 'scuse me, two hour cattle move, that ended up being about an all day long excursion. The little filly can have half a can of laziness in her, but the prior owners decided that gut hooking was the blue light special of the day to keep her going to the end of the drive. So back to the point, she was ruined from using spurs cuz she'd rather dunk ya like that Kmart plug in pony if you put more than 50 cents in it at a time. So because of that, I got along fine slick heel and pointing toes out to keep her on the straight and narrow and working a calf as she can do very well.
So, I guess in saying that also, I've kinda always ridden with toes out and evidently gotten away with it. Younger horses I just tried not to touch a spur to them, but the accidental touch of the spur could activate the eject button at times. But in the above mentioned pony, my feet and legs got so sore from trying to keep them pointed straight so as not to touch the mineral to them, I went as I mentioned, slick heel and I was fine. So what is the normal foot position on a horse?
I'm still asking for a friend.

toes out is correct. Im not sure what you are referencing about toes in, if it is something I said or from watching me. A lot of times on the first few rides I ride with my toes in just to keep from bumping them with my spurs, I could go slick heels but then I would have to take my spurs off lol
