- This brief filmic overview of General Motor's post War Dream Cars takes us on a journey into the design world created by Harley Earl and his staff.
We see his earliest creations, the Y Job and the LeSabre that set the standards for new cars in the Post War era. They were long, low, with headlights incorporated into the body and no running boards. Curved windshields, run flat tires, windshield wipers that automatically sensed rain and of course -- fins.
Earl set the stage with a theatrical touch like C. B. DeMille (his neighbor when Earl was growing up) that inspired the war weary country to embrace the future.

The Coolest was those 50's Firebird Concept cars but this video is missing one of the best - the 1964 Banshee - Pontiacs version of the Corvette :)
I think the Banshee was the one that DeLorean developed and was removed from the stand at the NY Auto show before it could be shown? I've only seen photos of that one. Not sure what happened to it. DeLorean said that's what gave him the inspiration for his ill fated sports car, the DMC-12. Same engineer Bill Collins.
King Rose Archives Was lighter than the Vette - would have kicked butt with a 389 etc. Pontiac V8 - Think There were 2 of them - in private hands now :)
they had 326 from a lemans tempest not 389 also the GM brass didnt want the banshee....afraid would take the lime light from the vette so actually GM killed the idea......the entire story is in......75 yr history of pontiac......also i believe only one servived but yes is in the hands of a collector.....unrestored.....
this video shows how influencing Harley Earl and other GM designerd were on other companies
