What Happened to RON HOWARD?

- Realizing they needed a voice over actor to provide the narration for a new show in development called Arrested Development, producer Ron Howard looked around the empty recording studio, finding no voice over actor in sight. So this Oscar winning former child star stepped in to provide a temporary voice track, you know just as a filler until they could find a better voice, of course. But a better voice never came because Ron Howard’s comforting and gentle tone mixed with a dry yet kinda goofy speech pattern was the perfect fit for the sense of humor of this show. But this was not the only time Ron Howard stepped up and became an unexpected perfect fit, he’s been doing that all his life - from being in front of the camera in classic TV shows and behind the camera for a hefty handful of wonderful motion pictures… and more! But nowadays is his career in arrested development?
Whenever I watch a Ron Howard picture, I always play a little game. I like to call this game Spot the Clint Howard! As Ronnie Boy has given cameo appearances to his troubled yet beloved brother Clint in nearly every film he has made. Can you spot the Clint Howard? His films always use his brother and he always changes up the genre. Bouncing around from historical epics to light hearted comedies to heart breaking dramas and he excels in them all. A true professional who proved to Hollywood he was meant for more than just sitcoms. But is he still producing works of art that live up to his days as a Oscar winning box office champ? Or are those happy days of exciting cinematic achievements behind him? Do we need to throw old man Opie in a pool full of Cocoon fountain of youth magic? Is he caught in some sort of arrested development? Ron Howard had been called nicest fella in Hollywood-a living, breathing embodiment of “Aw, shucks!” but have those “aw, shucks” turned to to “ah what the f*cks”? Let’s find out: WTF Happened to… RON HOWARD?

I love Ron, he entertained me as a child in Happy Days and as an adult with the movies he's directed.... Always seems like the kinda Guy you'd be lucky to know in your real life.
Thanks RH
I apparently met Ron Howard back in the early 90s when I was a baby lol. I obviously have no memory of it, but my dad used to bring it up when re runs of Happy Days came on. I guess Ron stopped into town for some ice cream with his family, ended up chatting with a few people in the store and asked my dad about being a new father while making some funny faces to get me to laugh. Wish I had a memory of it myself, but the story still gave me a soft spot for his work as I got older
Maybe he is known for "Happy Days" or others 70s flicks but he directed so many phenomenal movies, I still think he did some of the finest movies of the 80s,90s and 2000s like A beautiful mind, Apollo 13, Splash, A cinderella man, Rush, Ramsom, Cocoon & even Backdraft
I can't believe that cocoon is unattainable. That movie was so iconic when I was growing up. I remember when it came out and my grandparents were so enamored they went out and bought the VHS and we all sat down as a family and watched it. Being a young child and seeing how much this is a family-oriented movie It really brought us all together and with an understanding of how we all feel at certain points in our life. It kind of makes me sad knowing that I can't see it anymore, for the simple fact that watching it fills you with those nostalgic feels. 😢 Come on Ronnie, get it put back out there in circulation, so we can enjoy it once again and show it to our children so they can feel the same way as we all once did.
The dude has steadily and diligently worked his way towards becoming an excellent director. Yeah, he’s had a handful of flops but many directors do. His broad palette is absolutely incredible and I’d love to see more from the electrical and effervescent Ron Howard!
PS; I loved “Solo” 😎
It’s just mental that Richie Cunningham went on to have such an incredible career
Makes you think what did he do behind closed doors to acquire such success. Everybody knows Hollywood is unstable and insane but it seems to not affect him at all
I respect Ron for his bravery to direct one of the most controversial movie 'Da Vinci Code 2006' & 'Angels & Demon 2009' with his delivery of great cinematic shots, amazing visual storytelling... I love those movies 👏👏👏🙌🙌
I love this JoBlo narrator, he is entertainingly funny. Appreciate the material, thanks JoBlo!
What's his name? His an entertainer.
@@mistamycall Taylor James Johnson?
like the narrator said, ron howard as a director doesnt have a style. that is what makes him unique and great.
So many films I don't associate with him immediately: willow, parenthood, the Grinch, Ransom. Crazy resume that man has.
A prime example of a child star turned successful adult director. Of course, I was introduced to him, or rather, his voice, through Arrested Development.
You must be very young.
Apollo 13 still may be one of the finest movies of the 90s. A classic movie. Really powerful movie with excellent performances
Sci-nonfi
😂 sci-fi! What exactly is your understanding of that term?
can you do wtf happened to liam neeson?
He still around making those action movies
I've been a Ron Howard fan for as long as I can remember, he seems like a good egg in real life. If you haven't read The Boys, the memoir he co-wrote with his brother Clint, do so. I couldn't put it down and made me admire his parents for avoiding all the typical pitfalls of so-called stage parents.
Ron's best film was the one about the killer-robot driving instructor, that travels back in time for some reason.
Ah yes, the one where his best friend is a talking pie! 😂
GUNG HO was a great movie!! They even had a TV series with most of the cast and Scot Bakula playing the lead role instead of Michael Keaton.
'Bob' Robert Totten; 'taught-tnn.' My Dad was his agent forever and he was a wonderful character. If you watched TV from the '50s to the '90s you watch his work...
At timestamp 5:57
Yeah, but, *American Graffiti* debuted one year before Happy Days!! So, he was playing a Richie Cunningham *BEFORE* there was a Richie Cunningham!
Far and Away is a great movie. I’m a bit disappointed that critics didn’t appreciate it
I never was a big fan of the Davinci code movies with Tom hanks but he did also so many others underrated gems like an excellent racing flick like "Rush", the fun comedy "Edtv", one of the best Russel crowe & Paul Giamatti performances in Cinderella man, a solid 90s flick with Kurt Russel "Backdraft" and maybe also "Ramsom" with Mel gibson that was a big hit in 1996 but now he is forgotten in Gibson and Ron howard career, really excellent thriller
Ron Howard was offered three films Mr Mom, Footloose or Splash he chose Splash
He made a beautiful daughter and some good films too.
What happened to Ron Howard....he tried to stop Homer Simpson from ruining the lives of Kim Bassinger and Alec Baldwin as Homer tried to flee in an RV. Ron foolishly tried to leap off the Slec Baldwin's humvee and slip, dying in the process, causing Kim Bassinger to scream "pull over you maniac, you've killed Ron Howard!!"
The Living Legend! - Ron Howard Masterpeace of Film Maker! 😊👊✊😆👍🍁
He directed a lot of movies I like such as _A Beautiful Mind_ , _Apollo 13_ and _The DaVinci Code_ .
His daughter is super hot too.
Glenn Close nominations show tye lines between ridiculousness and greatness is often very blurred.
I was hoping that you would do this one day! Thanks!
When an auteur director signs on for a director for hire gig (in his case, with SOLO)
He's usually singing on a death certificate
I was really waiting when JoBlo will talk about COCOON again in the video... #Savecocoon 😅❤
Cocoon is definitely available if you know where to look
Btw, Cocoon is on blue ray at least. And I think it also helps that how the Grinch stole Christmas that came out after the Ron Howard version was so poorly criticized that some people are appreciating the Ron Howard film more now. His version I enjoyed mainly due to the fact if you pay attention to the film close enough; he does get the same message across as the animated film. At the heart of the film the message was it is not the presents but spending time with those close to you. Ron's version had the Who's learn the meaning rather than just them already having it. To me that stands out when you teach someone to learn the meaning rather than just knowing it. I still love the animated version; I just think the live action version is underrated.
As far as Solo a Han Solo movie is concerned; Harrison Ford actually praised the actor who played a younger version of Han. And Ron Howard is one of many people in Hollywood to speak out on the toxicity from Star Wars fans.
Cocoon IS available everywhere to buy in the UK - HVV, Amazon, etc 😊
Loved the DaVinci code.
That 70's Show was to the 70s what Happy Days was to the 50s in its time.
I don't think he's done a horror movie yet. I'd like to see how he handles that.
The original directors of the star wars solo movie. We're trying to improv the script daily, and they were running up the overtime really quick. They were replaced Byron howard because he had a reputation for not going overbudget
What a stellar and varied career. I think Nightshift is an under rated classic. Speaking of classics i actually forgot how many he made. I think Solo is unfairly criticised, its a fun movie. WTF happened to Ron Howard? He became an icon
Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired for having a mind of their own
Probably. Not something the giant corporation wants with their multi billion dollar franchise. Not the job to sign on for if you’re looking for independence. Still would’ve been interesting to see what direction they were going to take it.
Thirteen Lives is one of the best rescue movies I’ve ever seen
I don't recall any emphasis being placed on him as director in promotion of his films. I never realized just how many classic movies he has helmed. It makes it even funnier that Richie declined to join Hollywood at the end of the jumping the shark story.
Solo was a fun movie.
Great thanks 🎉😊
Ron looked at me, looked away, and looked again-on the set of angles and demons
It was the movies that got smaller, not Ron Howard. His kind of work (the dramatic thriller) is what goes straight to streaming now. A shame.
Night Shift needs more love. It's my favorite Howards and Keaton movie
I loved Ron Howard's narration on Arrested Development. Honestly the my favorite thing about his entire career. lol
0:15 “fine, I’ll do it myself”
In Europe Cocoon is still available though.
One of my favorite narrators in the Jo Blo Universe. (May be the best).
Ron looks like bill burr! In that thumbnail
your videos are interesting, i am truly proud of you🍎🍎🍎
1. Backdraft
2. Ransom
3. Night Shift
4. Cinderella Man
5. Solo - A Star Wars Story
He directed Rush, the narrative equivalent of an eddy, and hasn't been able to get anyone to take him seriously since.
The Beatles doco "Eight Days A Week" was a HUGE disappointment (and missed opportunity) - It started it's life as a project that was going to present so much new and unseen Beatles footage, which turned out to be about only 20% or so of the final film, (I paid for a cinema ticket to sit and watch so much footage that I had archived on hard drives sitting at home!) padded out by interviews of people, some known and some unknown, rabbiting on with their own personal opinions of The Beatles (I could have asked my neighbours or the workers at my local supermarket without having to pay for a cinema ticket for essentially that info). This project should have been made by Peter Jackson who is a far superior film maker.
Hello!!
22:06 me making sentences without thinking
I stand with all ginger celebrities! Like Ron Howard… and others..
So many spam bots in this video.
I'm looking forward to that Jim Henson doc 😁
james cameron should be next
Night Shift. Classic.
Thirteen Lives isnt ok, it is thrilling, great and fantastic. You should check it out
Clint Howard was on Star Trek.
😎👍
The DaVinci Code movie was just okay, I think. I believe what makes it seem worse to some is it’s Howard and Hanks at maybe their least compelling. Hanks is surprisingly bland in it.
I think Solo failed at the box office beacuse it was the next Star Wars movie released after The Last Jedi, (and the hugely divisive backlash that followed that particular release). Though Solo isn't a perfect movie I did enjoy it and have re-watched it a few times since the first. Personally I would choose to watch it again over any of the new Trilogy. I would go as far as to say that after Rogue One it is the 2nd best Star Wars production since the house of the mouse took over Lucasfilm. Ron Howard has made some great movies through the years. I really like Cinderella Man and Rush out of his more recent work but my favourite film of his is actually Gung Ho... make of that what you will 😄
Ron Howard is a good director..a little light..but hey..We got Tarantino for that..:)
❤❤ bravissimo,mi piace molto ❤❤anche American made che lui ha prodotto
He’s currently the head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
I was a kid when Gung Ho came out, and I thought it was pretty good. 🙂
Solo is awesome!
Art, unlike truth,
is subjective...
Loved him for years, but sadly things like Solo (failed to mention for SW movie to lose money) proved he is losing his touch. If it was his need to push the message or studio interference it was trash.
Check out 13 lives. He hasn't lost anything.
👍👍👍🎥📺
I love Gung ho
Gung Ho is pretty damn good.
With the exception of rogue one. Solo is the best star wars movie. In 40 years
Edtv is a remake of the french Canadian movie Louis 19. The american version's casting was all wrong. Jim Carey would have been perfect for the role though😅😂😂
cliffs: he got bald....dat's what happened
Richie Be Richie than Rich
Is Ron Howard still living?
Gung Ho was a flop? If it was I think it is safe to say it is a cult classic now. I found the movie rather funny. 😁
“Gung Ho” wasn’t as big of a hit with critics and audiences as “Splash” and “Cocoon” were, but “Gung Ho” did manage to gross 2.5 times its $13 million budget, so it wasn’t a box office flop.
It was a modest success!
As much as I enjoyed the video about Ron Howard, there were a few details that Joblo got wrong like saying “The Paper” was released in 1984 (it was actually released in 1994) and saying “Splash” grossed $62.6 million at the box office (when actually it grossed $69.8 million).
How are y’all gonna gloss over Frost/Nixon!?
People hate Far and Away?
I've never realized Ron Howard is a bit of a petrol-head, he's made like 5 different car/driving movies...
I liked Solo. It's a Star Wars movie. Could it have been better? Sure. It could have also been much worse.
Ron Howard is like the directors that directed an episode of The Crown, at worst forgettable and at best entertaining
Eulogy is pronounced Ūlogy.... (the "E" is silent.) 😂
How did he do Ron’s timeline out of order? American Graffiti happened BEFORE Happy Days. These videos are getting sloppy.
Hahaha..... Make a 700m dollar movie and get a razzy. Hahaha. Howard is great.
Take out Woody Harrelson & SOLO is a great movie
holy shit what is with the screaming goats un sub scribed
The reason we skipped Solo was The Last Jedi. Disney effed us, so we effed them. Howard was caught in the crossfire.
So then why did rise of Skywalker make a billion dollars?
@@mttylerdurden9 I never saw it, and don't believe it.
No... I do not like your take... sorry.
