Tanning your back: I found a GREAT solution to this. Put the Tanning mit on the end of something long (I use my shower loofer brush it's really long) but also a wooden spoon or anything like that from the kitchen, use a hair tie to secure the mit, and apply it that way. IT WORKS. EVERYTIME 👌🎉

I’ve been self tanning for at least 10 years! A couple years in, I switched to rubber gloves instead of a mitt and it was a GAME changer. You should try it if you haven’t!! A video comparing half your body with gloves and half with a mitt would be awesome! I feel like the tan is so much darker, it blends the same to me, you wast ZERO product, and it’s SOOO MUCH EASIER being able to use both hands at once!!

I feel like I’m a pro at this! My tans always turn out perfectly and I have so many tips. My favorite are either Tanceuticals, amazing, or Norvell professional spray tan. I buy it off amazon, it’s a liquid, and also buy a mist spray bottle that works when you spray upside down too. I used to stand in my shower and just spray it, but the clean up it annoying. So I spray it onto a tan mitt. I also dispense it into a dropper bottle, and I add it to my lotion for a really simple gradual tan. I use a much thicker barrier cream, and always wear latex gloves. Even though I use a thick barrier cream, I will still take a dry facecloth and buff all those tricky spots, feet, ankles, knees, wrists, elbows. I use a THICK cream on my hands, apply a single drop to a large makeup brush for my hands, buff like crazy, and then use that dry cloth to buff out all the edges, between fingers, press gently in the webbing too. My palms stay entirely free from product because of the gloves. If I’m using the Tanceuticals I use latex gloves to apply. It’s much better than using the mitt. Love your tips Abbey! I push on my elbows too! 😅
All that being said, I wish we loved our skin more as it is. In North America we feel we need to be tan to look better, but on the other side of the world they think snow white skin is beautiful.

On a side note: if you need some quick color for an event, an easy and quick day of or 5 minutes before product is the Sally Hansen airbrush tan. May I show you how to apply it to your back without stretching your arms like Abbey was demonstrating? Do you have a scrub brush for your body? They are long and oval-shaped. Insert the brush inside the tanning glove and secure it with an elastic hair band or another preferred method. Then spray the tanning on your glove on the brush and apply it to your back while using a double-sided mirror. This is a great method. Another option is using plastic wrap, but I find it less secure due to its soft material. Abbey has provided a lot of guidance, and this is my way of giving back to you all. Take care. 🫶🏻🥰

Long time fan, first time caller. You must be psychic! I wanted to see how you used the barrier cream. So many great tips. Using a dry paper towel! I was using wet wipes wondering why I looked so weird. My arms are not so long and can’t get to those places. I started rubber banding my mitt on my back brush and have been getting better at making it work for me. Now here’s the rub (sorry) for me. The skin on my body is so much more aged looking than my face. The self tan makes my skin look rough when it’s too dry. This week I tanned with Tanologist water in very dark. I went all day without lotion. Decrepit is not the word but close. Next week I’m trying the San Tropez gradual tan. I think a lotion formula will work better for me. I really tried to find a video as thorough as yours, Abbey, that addresses tanning aged skin. I am convinced it does not exist. Wish me luck! PS, K18 is transforming my hair! Thank you for the guidance. Love your videos.

Yea having color boost my confidence as it does for a lot of people, but I'm also fine with being pale. And like you all, yes I wish people would stop hating on being pale, bc being pale is beautiful too!!! All skin tones are gorgeous and unique and there is nothing wrong with being pale. If you have to use barrier cream, you are using the wrong self tanner!! Once my tan specialist told me that the tanner she uses in her gun is available at Nordstrom in mousse form, my life changed! It’s called Dolce Glow. Expensive but with EVERY PENNY. No more barrier creams and it’s the most smooth and seamless self tanner.

As an avid self tanner (I work in dermatology & am the most palest of princesses) there really isn’t a lazy way to self tan and have it look good/natural. You could use a gradual self tanner lotion that you use instead of regular moisturizer, or add tanning drops to your moisturizer .. but it’s not going to give you the same results. As someone who’s super busy & always exhausted when I don’t have the time or energy to do a full routine as seen here I will just do a partial self tan.. like apply to my legs only or lower legs only. Or Legs & arms kinda thing. It all depends what u will be wearing.. the only step I think u could possibly cut out is the pre-shower lotion exfoliating.. or even the In shower exfoliating if you regularly use something to exfoliate in the shower like a loofa (which actually is kinda gross-but I know people use them).. you could just quickly use a washcloth to exfoliate the problem areas (elbows/knees ankles etc.) The older I get the more I have just learned to embrace my pale skin & skip the tan all together when I don’t have the time/energy to do the whole thing. It really is such a high maintenance thing to do. Everyone hates my pale skin & finds it ugly; somehow that’s accepted by society. I’ve been shamed for the color of my skin since I was a young child, even by close family (parents, grandparents, cousins etc.) I can’t help the color of my skin & I don’t want to get skin cancer and sun-damage. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@@user-xv1kp6qf7h oh I disagree✨😊 the Tan Towels are the BEST for those of us who are so over all the ridiculous steps for something very temporary. Great natural color (I too am super pale), no streaks, no blotchy/patchy as wears off…perfect and so easy. Tan Luxe is the same easy step, just adding drops to the moisturizer I’m already applying❤️ I don’t feel the need to look “tannned”, just would like to warm up my blue/white legs🤣

@@tquirkyt7118 well that’s what I suggested, gradual tanning lotion or tan drops to moisturizer as “lazy” alternative. But it doesn’t give the same results as a full self tan routine, so I’m not sure what u disagree with? I didn’t ever have luck using a tan towel but everyone’s different what they prefer. Was just trying to help

Interesting order. I usually start with feet first then go upwards. Because if you do your upper body first then you have to bend to do your lower body (feet and legs) and then you can get creases on your tummy and inside the elbows…

I've never been a self-tan girlie except for the spray tan I got for prom in high school BUT we're going on vacation and I plan to be covered head to toe in UPF clothing & SPF because I will NOT get a sunburn this year. When we go out at night , I need my legs to not be paper white and transluscent!

However how do you match the color on your face to your self tanned body? Do you apply a darker color of foundation?

To avoid creases, I like to start bottom to top. I do my legs(blend into feet), butt(optional), torso(front and back), arms shoulders and neck, face, take gloves off and blend into hands last last.

Girl you're my tan guru, you taught me how to tan years ago! As a short, pregnant, very pale lady with huge boobies, *I'd like to add*: I do my lower legs first, then thighs, then stomach, then chest and arms last. Otherwise, if I bent down at the end do my legs, I'd get booby marks on my thighs and tummy. I do a light coat of moisturizing lotion on my whole body. I let that absorb then I do a good coat on all the dry parts Abbey mentioned. Then I apply the tan and walk around naked for at least 15 minutes. Oh! I do the Isle of Paradise tanning drops on my face. Then bed time. Good luck tanners!

Super helpful (as always)! I started using the self-tanning oil drops and I'm going to try some of these tricks. Because there is no guide color, I seem to get darker patches, especially on my feet and hands. I'll try applying the blocking lotion and see if that helps. I'm also going to get one of those brushes! 🎉
