I remember when Don's accident happened. Awful thing. My folks were torn up about it.. I was 6 yrs. old. I read somewhere an interview with Buck, some years after it happened, how dead set against motorcycles he was. I think Doyle Holly had one at some point and maybe Willie Cantu. He tried his best to talk Don out of buying one and tried to impress upon him just how dangerous they were. He said Don just laughed it off. Sad, sad event that is burned into my memory!

Today's country music doesn't compare to country music from yesteryear. Banjos, steel guitars and just all around feel good music. From toe tapping tunes to ones that would bring a tear to your eye. Buck Owens was my favorite male singer, along with Don Rich and Buddy Alan. They sure don't make them like that anymore.

Buck and the Buckaroos were hands down the best live country act out there in the '60s. Fiddle player Don Rich was Buck's prodigy on the guitar and in no time outplayed his teacher! He had quite a style and helped make the Fender Telecaster a staple in country music. Also noteworthy is Kay Adams was among the first female country singers to sing truckdriver songs. She is one of the most underrated and overlooked girl singers in country music.

Well....the Flying Burrito Brothers did their job on the following Altamont festival and although that festival has been overshadowed because of the Hells'Angels turmoil there, the Burritos did a very fine job as opening act. They did for country as much as Buck did here on this show and I'm pretty sure the public at Altamont had a hell of a time also. And as for Woodstock: Joan Baez did some wonderful country songs there. So it is not that country music was lacking at that festival either.

@TheJanka51 Not at all. Buck and the Buckaroos were huge, and a lot of rock acts knew their music--and very much appreciated Don's and Tom's musicality. The "hippies" knew their music--a lot of young musicians back then were very much into bluegrass (some of them led there by the Grateful Dead; others through their interest in acoustic music, generally)--and Don's fiddle playing fit right in. Even The Beatles were big fans of The Buckaroos. They used to swap releases when their new albums came out.

I heard another song that I have come to adore by Wynn Stewart. "Wishful Thinking."

Bill Mack and Kay Adams are the only two still alive from this show.

Wtf. Every Buck Owen's video you go to is filled with comments about how great Don Rich was.

I think it's because he WAS great, and never really got the "official" recognition he deserved. Buck Owens (in my opinion), wouldn't be the artist he became without Don. I think it could be said that the whole Bakersfield sound wouldn't have been the same without him. I think his harmony vocal style is still an influence today.

Yes, Don Rich was the whole package. A prodigy talent, and the vital, instrumental catalyst in the development and progression of the iconic "Bakersfield Sound". In addition, he was a humble man, allowing his light to shine for Buck, but not to eclipse him but to compliment him. I pray one day soon, that Don Rich will be recognized by induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. There is no one alive nor deceased more deserving than Dangerous Don Rich. I hope this can happen for his family.

12:43 It sounds like Don Rich plays flatwounds on the tele. Can anybody confirm? I love his tone. I believe he played through a Fender Bassman amp
