The mnemonic I use is "light is right". The orange/blue fits in pretty well with the light/dark visual theme, so I find the association between orange and "light" to be straightforward. (Tangentially related: As a DPS in Materia, I use the same mnemonic for our pf Dark and Light strategy. DPS with light debuff go right (east), DPS with dark debuff go left (west).)

I have a simpler way of understanding it, treat each line aoe as if it's a half-room cleave on the side the arrows point to, that's it, makes it very intuitive to visually solve what is unsafe

the way i think about it personally is I look at the 2nd letter in bLue and oRange. im curious to see what tether strat becomes the norm for pfs

Thats not possible, if that did happen then all 3 would rotate in the same direction. There wouldnt be any safe spots at all if that was the case.
