In this vlog, I make a lunch stop at a modest but hugely popular biryani joint in Hassan, Pillai Mess. Begun by Mr. Pillai, an immigrant from Kottayam, Kerala, in the 1970s, this home eatery has integrated into the food culture of Hassan. And it epitomises this culinary confluence in their mutton biryani, cooked in a traditional chembu over a wood fire.

It’s great to see you in my home town. When you get a chance, must try Gajanana refreshments-started not so long ago. The onion thuppa chutney is something unique to this place. You must try out their dosas.
If you are in Mangalore, then a trip to Diana in Udupi which invented the Gadbad and Manipal - Presscarts where you get delightful dishes like Egg bun Masala, Bread masala, Keshto
Even I liked his frank answer, which inturn, me as a chef, understood it is good food.

Biryani tastes best when its made with long grain basmuti rice.. not like this masala mixed brown colored sona masuri rice.
@@bignavin10 there is so many different types of biryani preparation in all over the world...the one is in video one type of preparation which is seen in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka state and some part of rayalseema....but that doesn't mean it is not tasty biryani...it has its own taste u should try it one ..

Owner at Pilli mess is so generous and has very pure soul... We were at Pillai mess last year and we passed almost 3pm he literally had nothing to server from menu but he saw us hungry and offered us a small portion of biriyani which all they had and served us with rassam rice to fill up our hunger. Not just that since it was all done and they served what they had kept for their lunch, he denied to charge us for the lunch that was offered to us❤️

I stayed in Hassan from 1993 to 1997. We enjoyed this biryanis for 4 years. I am seeing no change in that biriyani for more than 25 years
So humbling to see such a humble owner, even after so much success n experience. 🙌

You need to visit Durgashree Mess in Sakleshpur. It serves one of the best Biriyani. It’s quite famous with the people who drive on the highway while passing Sakleshpur.
Had visited this place way back in 2019 with my family. We were in total 3 adults and 2 kids. The owner bought 2 cold water bottles for us from outside, and told his staff to take good care of Us.
Highly recommended.
That brass vessel is the key to the unique taste of Biryani with few spices , in Delhi 6 also there are not much spices in the Biryani but the taste is unmatched 👍

Kripal Amanna is a genius at words and presentation. You can actually taste the biryani, or whatever he is eating at the moment and it feels like a totally immersive experience. I discovered him last month (Feb 2021) and we all know, there is a pandemic going on, we are locked in (especially in the US), but I have started ordering in a lot of Biryani. Too bad, we don't get Jonne Halli Biryani here. I've discovered the joys of Seeraga Samba rice. I've discovered the cooling powers of raita (I knew that from before, but now even more). I've discovered the joys of spiced Meen curries and spiced King Fish fries of Kerala. Thank you Mr. Amanna!
I am a Bengali and although I have been to Bangalore/Mysore/Mangalore and South India in general, Mr Amanna's videos bring alive the rich culture of the modern South to me. It makes me want to travel in India (when I can manage, and I don't know when that will be). I hope he makes it to more than a million subscribers and more from that point on. The motorcycle videos give me a sense of being there vicariously and experience the freedom of being on the road. A documentary Emmy for Mr Amanna? :)
