Women's History Month is celebrated every March in the United States, Canada, and some other countries to recognize women's contributions to history, society, and culture. It began as a week-long celebration organized by the Sonoma County, California Commission on the Status of Women in 1978, and was later declared a national month-long event by the U.S. Congress in 1987.
Women's History Month acknowledges the important role women have played throughout history and also serves as a platform to raise awareness of issues that women continue to face in today's society. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of trailblazing women, highlight their work, and inspire future generations.
