I think there were a lot of factors that went into it. Some people believe it was because the writers wanted a gay relationship between Apple and Darling and I guess that didn’t fly with the company or producers so they canceled so that wouldn’t be pushed. Others say it was because of disneys descendants films that came out which caused them to stop because the Mouse upstairs wouldn’t like if they had similar story lines and ideas. This show was great and it sucks it had to end for whatever reasons :(
Making daring the prince of Beauty's story instead of Apple's story was the best character development I think the show ever gave us. Daring was lost when the destiny he thought he had crumbled under his feet. All he had left were his looks, attractive enough, and his personality, which he could've faked a good personality until he made it but he had nowhere to make it to anymore. So, his personality became represented by his outward appearance, and he found himself the prince of someone else's story. A story where they don't refer to him as "prince charming." And through this, he finds what's really important to him. Its genius story telling.
I think part of Daring's extra arrogance is because he's loosing his motivation and doesn't know what to be and even with Rosabella's advice, there's nothing to really drive him and going back to old selfish ways when your future is uncertain is easier.
Not gonna lie, I used to ship Daring with Apple until i watched Epic Winter. This is where I fell in love with Rosabella and Daring's budding romance. They're now one of my favorite ships ever.
I remember watching Ever after High With my mom, and she always told me he was the beauty and the beast prince because of his personality it was so obvious, and we still believed he was apples, Prince 🧍🏻♀️
I adore these two, even if their relationship seems to sprout from out of nowhere. I love the opposites attract trope; Rosabella is kind and open-minded, while Daring was close-minded and oftentimes rude. I also love the approach to retelling the story of The Beauty and The Beast, since it keeps the important elements while giving us something new. (Possibly unpopular opinion, but Rosabella and Daring are one of my favorite ships of the series.) However, I do wish they built this up more beforehand. I'd have loved to seen a friendship between the two, and maybe one had feelings for the other, whether they realized that or not. I feel like the biggest reason people weren't so fond of their relationship was because there wasn't much that happened before the Epic Winter special. Had they shown us more of these two beforehand, there would have been less whiplash. XD
If oh think about it, it was always staring us in the face about Daring being the Beast. How? His vanity! He only cared about two things: His looks and impressing the ladies. Now, we know from the story, Adam was careless and selfish and got cursed by the witch he wouldn't provide shelter to. Daring is selfish but not careless, but like Adam he only thought of himself and was cursed eventually because of it. Now THAT is some genius writing
And the fact he ALWAYS had a handheld mirror when he had any solo shots/scenes (even with others) that was somewhat similar to the og one in beauty and the beast (although it could just be a gag with a decorative mirror to match the detailed scenery and characters)

Daring being the prince charming in beauty and the beast instead of snow white was an amazing plot twist tbh. It gave him great character development plus we got darling as apples princess charming, the wlw couple we needed 💞😌

I prefer Daring with Lizzy Hearts, but Rosabella is a good friend and therapist at least. Though she could work on being a little less pushy and not constantly bug him about whether he's working on the traits. Chances are he's acting extra arrogant in that setting because the question is awkward especially in a public setting even if she does phrase it as "that thing we talked about."
