So good to see someone who's in the same boat as me rather than these awesome riders who have loads more experience than I do. Thanks very much for sharing. Really loving your videos.

Thanks mate, I really appreciate that. My aim is the share the experience, although probably oversharing some of the thoughts because I'm sure plenty of people getting into Adventure Riding has a similar experience.

Ive been riding dirtbikes for 30 years, never on tracks or racing mainly bush enduro style riding but looking at all the fun im missing out on... i think its time I got into this adventure riding so ive put my name on a 23 890r and im going to throw a auroa rally tower on it to cut through the wind a bit better on the highways and a place to mount a gps thats going to be in eye view then i can get out and do some of the rides ive been dreaming of up the high country and the qld hills across to the kimberlys, great video guys i love it cant wait to be out there amongst it aswell ... stay safe and happy riding 🇦🇺👍🏼

Great video, well put together and very relatable. I'm new to all of this as well and try to pick up as many tips and techniques as possible to help me along, so glad you included the cornering/body positioning footage. Good stuff, entertaining and very helpful. (Me: 2014 KTM 690 Enduro R, put down less than 500km so far on mixed surfaces after 10 years on maxi scooters).

Great video mate. Provides an accurate insight into how full on a ride like this would be for a beginner... group rides are good and bad at the same time. They push you further than you think you can go... bit they mess with your head a lot more than just being with a buddy or two. Thanks heaps man.

Nothing wrong with the bike. It’s the shooter, not the arrow. Nothing to do with an 11 year old bike. I’ve seen blokes on a Himalayan with 100 times the skills outride others on “proven” dirt weapons, same as old Honda XL600 riders who’ve ridden on those kinds of roads their entire life.
That’s it, definitely don’t resist the bike. You get more tired with no benefit. Loving this series. Looking forward to getting time to watch the second part that’s come out.

Talk about thrown in at the deep end. Scary conditions for any relative new rider yet alone someone on their first off road experience. Well covered though and I was very interested in the advice given as I’m apprehensive every time I hit a gravel road. I have also watched vids of putting the weight on the opposite side to road riding and need to get out there and practice it. Looks like a great 2 day course and well edited.

Totally enjoyed your vid! Very slick production editing. I've just got back into MC adventure ridding with my Honda CB500X. (30-year gap)
I grew up ridding on dirt roads and I guess I somehow instinctually know to keep a light handle on the bike in the dirt and just let it tell you where it wants to go.
What tyres where you running on your Tenere? The right tyres (as you now know) can make or break an adventure MC.
After more than 2 years know since you first posted this vid, how do you now feel about your skills as an ADV rider?

  • @ThroughtheValleyADV

Hey Vern, Gaia is awesome…but did suck in the beginning with the same issues you had…you need to change the settings / way you use the app and then it won’t glitch…I have the map zoomed in to 500m…then have the map set to North facing or south facing…depending on which way you generally ride…then you set it to track you but don’t have it move the map…it now works perfectly!

You’ve got a great bike for adventures - not too big and heavy but big enough and with enough HP to get you through.
That downhill section out of the Watagans is rough enough in the dry. In the wet it can get very slippery. You look like you’re handling it just fine.

@@MotoRidesAustralia Looks like a cracker of a day! I've been to the smallbore range next door a bunch of times when I was a kid and competing for my local RSL club. I remember hearing them drown out our much quieter rifles ahaha. I also remember out at the fullbore range at Malabar the guys there used to shoot at up to 900 yards with just iron sights! I might have to head up to Hornsby range and give this type a go..
