- After a bit of a break from this series, 'Were They That Bad?' is back and this time over Spencer Gallagher. Despite improving results as the years went on, Spencer still exited from the sport following the 2018 season, and in this video we're going to take a look back over his NASCAR career to see what went wrong.

I definitely remember he led so many laps at Texas in Trucks, I think the only reason, he didn't win is that his pit crew messed up every time(especially the last one).
Imo he wrecked a lot and was very mid, but in 2018 he finally hit his stride as a driver but threw it all away. I wouldn't call him a bust, but more of wasted potential tbh

He probably should've won several races in 2016. He was fast at Eldora and almost won his heat running down a dirt ringer, was at the front and got wrecked at Michigan, and you covered Texas.
He was supposed to run Daytona in 2019 for JRM in the 8 car but was eventually replaced by Chase Elliott.

I don't know what to say Spencer Gallagher is a strange driver you could say he's a bust but at the same time you could say he's just wasted potential that just never was able to hit that potential so i just don't know.

The way his career seemed tk look he took one season to learn the hard way and learn the ropes then improve to be pretty decent after his 2nd season, kinda like Mick Schumacher in junior formula
Yeah that pretty much sums it up, except it seems like everyone only remembers the bad seasons including me. If he kept going he could’ve gotten really good imo

I hate to be like this, but I think Spencer Gallagher was bad. Mid in ARCA, mid in trucks, and mid in Xfinity. The fact that in the same equipment, Johnny Sauter won the title, both his full time teammates won races, even his part time teammates won races while he didn’t even make the top 10 in points, shows me all I need to see. He could have made a good Xfinity career, but threw it all away and couldn’t ever bounce back from it. Personally, I don’t think he was a good driver
