Roman will eventually get revenge on Seth, they'll also team up again... they're gonna do this dance till the day they retire and beyond. It would be very fitting if they inducted each other into the Hall of Fame eventually. They're both first ballot hall of famers as individuals and as part of the Shield.

The belt exchange was a great call back to when Cody asked to see the belt 10plus years ago. Cody fulfilled his promise to make the name synonymous with his name and last night they repeated it but this time Cody symbolically staking claim to the rocks “peoples champion” title, hence the “im their champion, I’m Your champion”
I don’t think people realize that was one of only two times Cody and Rock ever interacted before all this and it wasn’t even on the air. Talk about long term storytelling

Dude i watched wrestlemania 40 on peacock n i just had this lingering "high" i guess you could call it. All of monday. And justttt woke up in a much better mood than usual. Im so appreciative of the fact that i got to watch that live w the rest of the wrestling fans around the world. Im so appreciative of the fact that i got to witness THE MOST historical moment in wwe history since not only i have been alive. But arguably my parents have been alive. Im so happy i got to watch it. Lmao im rambling. But my favorite fuckinggg wrestling event of all time. That ive ever witnessed. In my entire 24 years of living.

Also, take notice how the rock did a variation of the undertakers throat taunt on night 1 just before delivering the peoples elbow to cody and winning the tag match. Then on night two, he came for the rock.
People wanted Austin to show up, but I think The Undertaker appearance was fitting because he was the original Final Boss of Wrestlemania. Not only that, Undertaker's history with the Anoa'i wrestling dynasty, his friendship with Yoko, his loss to Roman in WM33, his feuds with the Rock. It was all very full circle. Beautiful storytelling, what an ending.
I didn't even think about Austin until after WrestleMania but then thought about it more and agree with you. His connection to anoa'i family but also his connection to Paul Heyman too when he was in WCW.
Undertaker is now officially the Ghost of Wrestlemania. He materializes when the wrongs needs to be set right and the odds need to be evened.
To add to this, I remember someone added that Taker represents the locker room leader, and his willingness to aid Cody in the match, and giving Cody that vote of confidence was meaningful, from a backstage standpoint as well.
Taker is also the Judge Jury and Executioner of Wrestlers Court for the locker room.
@@arthurkjrWWE, right now, have no budget issues. They can more than afford Austin... doesn't matter, Undertaker worked just fine for the spot if not better. Undertaker for the latter part of his career was synonymous with Wrestlemania. This doesn't mean Austin can't somehow get involved in the next chapter of this storyline... you know they're building to Rock V Cody somewhere down the road, Austin can show up then. Who knows in this new era of WWE.

Wow Sam I knew that night you had missed the importance of what happened with Seth. It was such deep storytelling calling back the hurt that Roman still had over what Seth did to The shield. And it hurt him so much that he was distracted by that hurt and he wanted revenge more than he wanted to beat Cody and it cost him his legacy. Seth knew that would happen that's why he went out there the way he did. It was brilliant storytelling. It's also the seed of Roman becoming a baby face because at the heart of his mistake was a broken heart. And no one plays the better foil against Roman then Seth.
They've even added context with Roman Reigns doc that just got released.
He talks about never wanting to break up the Shield etc
The ending felt like Avengers: Endgame. Long term storytelling at its finest. The story of Wrestlemania told in one main event match. Sure a little more sprinkles on the cake, like a Hogan or Austin appearance, but not necessary. Because man, you're right, we are spoiled as wrestling fans with this new era. To me, the feeling is reminiscient to end of Wrestlemanias X, XX, XXX with the baby faces coming out on top. All emotional fan favorites becoming champions: Bret Hart, Chris Benoit, Daniel Bryan... now it's Cody Rhodes. It was all of that turned to 11! So special not only for the performers, a special treat for all of us lifelong fans. Incredible and beautiful all in one breath.

The problem isn’t that there are commercials. The problem is when you give away a commercial free hour at the start, you have to backload the 2nd and particularly the 3rd hour with the ones that were missed in the 1st. This creates a flow that is not conducive for retaining viewers. When you have an ad break, come back for literally 2 minutes, I timed it, and go right back to commercial in the main event of your show, the thing you want people to see the most, the thing that makes you want more and want to tune in next week, it takes you out of the match as a viewer. Commercials are not the problem. The problem is it messes up the timing of the show which is why we had the abrupt ending on Monday. This isn’t hard to comprehend.

I think Taker in that spot made more sense from a logistics standpoint cause Taker can come from under the ring and if it was Austin he would have had to walk down the ramp. Austin never comes from under the ring. It would have been awesome to hear that glass break but i think the main even was perfect.
If Austin would have been booked I'd have him drive down to the ring on his ATV to get him in the ring faster

Whst a great re-analysis! The story was so well-told throughout that main event. After Cody won, it took awhile of his celebration, but i would not turn the event off until he ACKNOWLEDGED Seth at ringside. So well done.
Two things.
1.) The first opponent for Cody should be Solo. He’ll want to avenge the loss against his tribal chief.
2.) It seemed as if there were more commercials during the main event than normal. Kinda like they were making up for the first hour being as free.
Have Solo and do a similar match to Cena vs Umaga
It’d be a great intro for Jacob Fatu. Have Solo kinda take the reigns, pun intended, only for Roman to return later as a face.
Just a little correction sam, roman didn't spear seth, he gave him a superman punch. Seth Rollins was always roman reigns kryptonite, it was perfect storytelling.

Absolutely on point with the jailhouse energy there. People chanted 'this is awkward' and it was, but in a really good way. This was a more menacing Rock than I think I appreciated at the time, but I definitely felt and couldn't describe. This is a more nuanced promo from The Rock, rather than the cartoonish bad guy performance. Possibly lost in the arena, but on TV played much better. Great analysis Sam, as always.
It was like not keeping your focus on the task at hand was the reoccurring theme at WM40.
Roman,Seth,Drew, and Gunther all lost their titles by focusing on someone who was not in the match itself either leading up to, during, or after the match.
They’ve done a great job setting up the BIG future matches for Cody - Rock, a rematch with Roman. But those obviously need to be saved for the tent pole events. The challenge will be getting challengers for the months in between that are credible enough to seem like threats. The good thing about Roman’s infrequent title defenses was that they always held huge importance. Now that Cody’s slayed the GOAT, it might be tough to present anyone other than Gunther or a similar boss level superstar as worthy of a month or two long program with Cody

One thing I learned from this WrestleMania - it's okay if the finishes were predictable in retrospect. It's how we got to those finishes that mean the difference, and everyone goes home happy. This WrestleMania was probably the most rewarding for the fans in terms of the payoff for the storylines, at least in recent memory.
Isn't the last time we saw Cena and The Rock in the ring at the Wrestlemania (32?) where The Rock was faced with The Wyatt Family and Cena actually came to his aid?
We even saw a backstage segment between both of them being friendly at the start of the year if I'm not mistaken.
Sam, I was right there with you also, at first Seth on Sheild gear was cool, but didn’t understand. Then after all was done and emotions settled, the distraction factor made perfect sense. Thank you for all you do!

The only thing I would have changed at the end is have Cody's acknowledgment of what Seth had done for him in that moment happen in the ring instead of outside when he was walking back. Seth played a massive part with his small part.

Everything counts. Solo was yelling orders at Roman and looked frustrated that Roman wasn't getting up faster to finish off Cody.
The only thing in that match I didn't understand was Undertakers involvement. I don't remember him having anything to do with The Bloodline or any long time fued with The Rock.
It wasn’t about The Bloodline or Roman, it was about The Undertaker being the ultimate WWE guy, the ultimate WrestleMania guy, and the ultimate Final Boss.
He was protecting the WWE from The Rock.

I feel like at some point, Cody has to have these matches: A rubber match against Roman, the match against Rock, at least one more match with Seth, a match with Punk, and the rivalry with Randy Orton. As for Roman, I feel like at some point he must get revenge on not just Cody, but on Seth because of Seth distracting him and getting into Roman’s head during Mania. So, I think there are multiple rivalries and matches for both Cody and Roman that at some point, have to happen.

We are in the best era of wrestling, if you are a wrestling fan not a fanboy or a mark, but a fan, you have the best of wwe, the best of aew, the best of tna, the best of roh, the best of njpw, the best of ccml and lucha libre, its a great time to be a WRESTLING FAN because everyone is on their prime, AEW is kinda failling a bit with their normal shows, but oh boy do they put hella ppvs matches and dynasty will be one of those too, will ospreay vs bryan danielson, that's a must watch just like that wrestlemania main event.

Gotta defend commercial guy. The problem isn't ads it's timing. The other sports have dead times to insert ads. An nfl play doesn't cut halfway through. The midmatch ad is a tech to keep ppl from channel surfing. It started when there was head-to-head competition hotshotting live during breaks. It does suck the drama out of a big spot being trained to expect a pee break within 10 seconds. When MNF or another sports competitor is absent I think they could be just fine without; A hits spot, "Can B pull themselves back in?", ads, return to B whooping A. Matches don't end, nothing important happens, just the same thing ad nauseum.

Sam is wrong about Seth. Even after Roman hit Seth with the chair, Roman still had Cody wobbly against the ropes and took like 5 or more seconds to get ready for the Superman and didn't land it since Cody kicked him during it and then did the 3 cross rhodes.

I think the undertaker passing the torch makes more sense than Austin. Locker room leader for over 20 years, now Cody seems to be that guy. Maybe I'm wrong, I thought it would be Steve and I was wrong about that. Hindsight is a hell of a thing.

The Whole Opener Segment was great, only Behind the Main Event in My Opinion, the instant Claymore got me On the Edge of My Seat immediately, Drew Moment was Great to see But then the hypocrisy of his caracther revealed once more when he went at Punk. Punk for me did the natural, Drew was really Pushing it. When i heard the JD Music i popped so hard because i Thought about it But did Not think it would happen and then Damian’s South of Heaven looked really really good, Drew went really High and the Impact was Brutal. For me it was by far the best segment apart from Roman Vs Cody. Better than Gunther Vs Sami and Bayley Vs Iyo Sky in My Opinion
I think Priest v Drew has to happen at Clash at the Castle. You could have Punk trying to cost Drew but accidentally giving the match and title to Drew.

I had thought up an even better way to set things up for Cody and the Bloodline going forward.
For so long, Roman has used interference by Solo and the others as a crutch to win matches. Adding the Rock to the bloodline lineup was amazing. Keep everything up to Night 1 and the tag match, but pay attention to attitude and verbage by Rocky. The moniker of "Final Boss", the fact he almost seemed like he was calling shots, he took the whole thing very personally. Roman notices how Rock is putting himself above the Tribal Chief. The Head of the Table. Despite Rock acknowledging Roman, he always acted like he was the one in charge (they even acknowledged this themselves when Cody called him out on it). Despite all this, I believe Rock to be an honorable man of his word. If Rhodes/Rollins win the Tag match, the bloodline stays out of the Main Event.
Wrestlemania night 1, just that happens. Cody pins Rock, Bloodline loss, it's a 1v1 between Roman and Cody. Roman would want to do underhanded things and ignor the deal. Rock, being honorable, an elder, and on the board pulls rank over Reigns and forces Solo and Jimmy to stay out.
Night 2, the main event, Reigns is alone. Despite being a powerhouse before having his lackeys, he used them as a crutch for so long he cracks under the pressure. Clean, exciting match 1v1, Cody pins Roman. Rhodes is Champ. Now, what happens?
1. Rocky still goes to Cody, now with a vendetta against him for pinning him, and has the same kind of interactions. Shows himself as the true "Final Boss". Cody stated that he leveled up in the post-match interview. You gotta level up to face the next boss. Sets up Rock V. Rhodes
2. Roman Reigns is fuming. Not only did he lose, but The Tribal Chief was betrayed AGAIN by family. But someone who acknowledged him. Rock went against his orders. Rock wants to be Head of the Table. Reigns can't have that. He can't let an elder come in and take all that he's built. Gotta shut that down, and get his belt back. Sets up Reigns V Rock and Reigns V Rhodes again.
What we got was amazing. This would have been equally as good. Not quite as star strikingly as exciting though.
Seth Rollins was the one who smashed Romans chair with his back after using his torso to hurt Roman’s shoulder

The greatest main event of all time. My son's 6, never watched wrestling with me before. We put it on last night and he absolutely lost his mind.
I honestly thought that the Bloodline Rules were gonna be alot more one sided. It ended up just being a kind of standard No DQ match to be honest.
