...Well apologies for the wait. After this intending on being a 2 week turnaround with just me narrating etc. Turned into a full cast, custom music and ultimately better video... Thanks Aaron ;)
...Actually Aaron (TramEngineStudios) was instrumental in this being as good as it was from a post perspective. Really driving me to get great performances and just being there when I was unsure of the edits direction. Speaking of that The Old Guard’s Van was an absolute legend! They created the main music theme and some ditties in a very short turn around and even today stepped in to do the line for Duck’s driver! That line was originally meant to be played by Mango but they weren’t available but I still gave them credit As a key creative consultant. The reason I say ‘Key creative consultant’ is there where quite a few people that helped me make alot of small choices while making this hence the ‘thanks to all involved' card at the end.
Now to talk about the things I did :). I’m really proud of the way I made this. From lighting, framing, editing, pacing, VFX, colour grading etc. This was my first full use of DaVinci Resolve Studio which really gave me the tools to colour grade this the way I wanted it also helped with all the subtle VFX such as the red fix to make the colour compressed footage that happend in my current screen capture workflow to be actually red. that and things like the lamp effects and motion blur really made this feel polished and if I were to do something like this again I might use DR again but i recently got PP back again so I may switch back if I can get some plugins to do the same things. I'm really excited to show all the editing work I did on this weeks Tuesday livestream on Twitch (link below).
I'll be honest though the story is a little lacking and is more vibes than the former but I'm proud of those vibes. It maybe simple but its the story of ducks journey on this particular night. It also took inspiration from the night train song, but mainly a S4-6 (alot of lean to S5 tho). As well as the idea of 'Well Oliver's taken the post...What would Duck's experience be?'. There's also some bits where the effects are a bit weird etc etc. Although in alot of ways it really did what I wanted it to do which was showcase the Hybrid IOS. annoyingly 95% of this was filmed back in September so there's things that are out of date such as the older textures on callan. The other 5% or so where shot about 2 weeks ago so I could show off the canal and add a set of shots at Crosby hence why the TSI Thomas appears.
Really looking back at this I think I put almost too much effort in this video and all I hope is that people really like this Thomas and Friends Trainz story thing about Duck and the Mail train. hopefully it can maybe beat my Off the Rails video?
