Proof that Prof acknowledges Vince’s CZcams channel
oh you
Thank you for this video dude! I'm so glad folks like you are checking the game out and making content for it - I respect and appreciate your opinion on it 🤘
FAB is the most fun i've had playing cardboard since OG ravnica block. So glad you're willing to give it a try!
Day 1 (and only) of asking for a F&B equivalent of Dies to Removal with you and Prof.
Wow, that would be dope!
I love the idea of you and the Prof reviewing more than MTG. It’s hard to believe it’s been over a year since I got out of Magic and I love being able to support you guys.
"You're never going to sell them" hits a little too close to home.
I bought a case of cru back when it was new and put it aside saying to myself "ill give it a year, if it is worth something ill sell otherwise ill just open them all".... 10x value from then...."i could sell.... but i dont want to...i just like looking at them..."
A note on Great Library. You can only have 1 in your deck and only two Heroes can play it at this time because it's locked behind Classes that can play Light Cards.
Loved hearing this. Great to have you on board, and I'm sure we'll organise something locally soon. :)
FaB has been a blast for me, i bought the Boltyn deck and have upgraded it since, and it's been a blast. It definitely took me lots of games for me to really understand the interactions and there's still tons for me to learn, but it's an amazing game.
I love FaB and do hope they increase the pull-rates personally. Fables aren’t necessary and are affordable during the unlimited print run, but I think Legendary’s should be guaranteed 1 per case with the chance to get 2-3. I know a few people that bought a case of Monarch up to 3 cases and all pulled 0 Legendary’s.
This creates a couple problems as depending on how lucky they were, they probably spent $300-$600 a box (when the prices were ridiculous at launch) so they’re out a ton of money with no return. The second would be the argument to just buy singles, however, when Monarch dropped, the average Legendary (because they’re all Cold Foil in 1st edition) was $1,200 which is astronomical. Things have settled since then and I don’t believe we will have this issue with Tales of Aria (pre pre release prices for Cold Foil Legendary’s at Vegas were $350-$750) but I think increasing the pull rates to at least have guaranteed pulls in boxes/cases would go a long way in getting cards into player hands and stabilizing product prices (both in 1st and UNL printings)
Fantastic video! I've been really enjoying FAB for the last year to the point I started a CZcams channel. This game is amazing and it's great to see people like yourself and the Professor talk about it.
I love how they were smart to make 1st editions the way they did keeping the collectors aspect to those boxes and letting the unlimited edition boxes be available long term
“Smart,” how?
@@bradensorensen966 People who want to go bananas on investing for shiny cardboard and throw their money on that. The unlimited edition will contain the same game pieces but without the exclusive cosmetic stuff (cold foils, extendet art etc.) and they are available at MSRP for years to come. And unlimited cards are mostly dirt cheap if you want to play single cards (well, except the Legendaries)
@@TheLegalCustodian not years to come currently all and I mean All series 1st and unlimited are out of print for good
@@muellermaxi198 Yeah, I made my comment when we didn't had the information of UNL going OOP so soon. Now there is no set in print at the moment. Excititng to see if this is to prepare a gear change to FAB 2.0
My guess is that not only the quality of the game makes the progress bit by bit, but also the enthusiasm of devs, players and content creators. Who would've guessed the community has influence, eh?)
I used to create content for WotC and they wouldn't even respond to mails. Meanwhile, LSS gives constant support and help. They really care about community.
"It doesn't matter if you aren't going to sell them."
Vince calling me out hard. xD
I always tell my loved ones: "I have a collection worth over $20,000 dollars!".
They then respond with: "so, when are you going to sell it?".
I then twiddle my thumbs, staring at the ground mumbling: "I dunno".
XD
Right? I'm in this video and I don't like it.
I mean, are items like Tunic and Skullcap BiS for many classes?
Yes.
Do they provide a huge advantage?
Not really.
Take Heartened Cross Strap for example. It allows you to generate two resources whenever you wish. If you’re going for a 100% min/max value vs Tunic, it takes 9 turns to create a 3rd resource. Also, it will only give you one at a time and the counters never stack beyond three. Some turns, you just don’t need to use it.
So being incredibly generous to Tunic, I’d say you’ll usually need 10 turns to actually utilize all three resources. That’s a fuck ton of turns.
The thing I like about FaB is that lower rarity cards are still incredibly relevant. The highly optimized cards might make a difference at the upper echelons of play, but that impact is muted to hell and back for anything less, even local events.
There are, of course, exceptions to this rule. (I think Vestige of Sol is pretty much a must have for any serious Prism player.)
However, let’s compare this to MtG.
My Markov EDH deck is valued around $5000. It took me years to piece it together and hunting deals on everything from reserve list cards and even new mythics. Many of those incredibly expensive cards provide HUGE advantage. Game-breaking advantage.
Like, I should go pull out one of my alternate decks to be fair, kinds of advantage.
It’s not even close to compare the impact having a full fetch set, dual lands, and choice reserve list cards in Magic to just about any card category in FaB.
Also you bring up reprints. That unlimited tag isn’t a joke. Not like it was with WotC. Do we really need to beg for reprints if the print run will never end?
It’s just growing pains from a smaller company. Setting up international logistics is incredibly difficult. They don’t have Hasbro money nor existing contracts.
So, in conclusions, I think we should all settle down about the price. I’ve been on both sides. FaB is so much cheaper than MtG that it’s a joke to even bring up the comparison.
I mean, are we really comparing LLC’s release schedule and product offerings to the fucking Hasbro-fueled WotC tsunami?
i really wish to see the decklist of your markov deck because i have two Cedh deck and without the RL card such as ABUR dual, cradle or wheel of fortune they are both 1200€ so i really want to know what drive the cost that much?
So one note on the "out of print", LSS has had unlimited printings are unlimited. They intend to reprint sets, not just cards, until the demand for that set is done. They also intend to start reprinting that set again if demand picks up. Great video!
I hold my breath, and wait to see what this looks like in practice.
Always love your videos. Appreciate how candid and thorough you and really looking forward to seeing you explore Flesh and Blood a bit more! Also agree on the criticisms. The scales are too unbalanced for staple cards and their price. Great job!
i wish fab was more popular, i love this game but i have nobody to play with irl and have to get trains to other cities to play it :c

Just got word today another of the shops in my area is getting the game in soon, which is nice. I’m still hoping to learn the game a bit and play, so maybe I’ll get a chance
Thank you for putting this out. Your opinion is great to hear. I love FaB and can’t stand the argument that all decks are thousands of dollars. Can’t wait to see the openings.
One small thing that you didn't mention but I assume that anyone would factor into the decision is that the sets do not stop being printed like MTG sets and LSS have stated that they will continue to print the sets like Welcome to Rathe, Arcane Rising, Crucible of War and Monarch, so the supply of tunic/skullcap/library and other pricey staples should steadily increase, barring any additional printings , which I do agree is still necessary to reduce the cost of them.
I think part of the problem is that there have been so many failed TCGs. That makes it hard to buy into another new one.
I think TCG need to remain week to become sustainable. I recently started playing yugioh (online) again and a 2 players in a row killed me in a single turn. They both summoned cards after cards after cards in a single turn and attacked me twice in a single row lol my life points were gone, plus they use trap cards to deny you from playing your turn... fk yugayoh and their loli anime looking cards call the fbi and shut their cards down.
I got 3 boxes of 1st Ed Monarch last week and pulled a Cold Foil Great Library and Phantasmal Footsteps. My first impulse was to immediately sell then and get the pleb versions plus over $1000. I like that both the $250 version and the $1500 dollar version exists.
Great vid and great opinions. Welcome to the community!
LGS owner from Australia that sells FaB. I think largest point missed is every "core" (a core set is any draftable set, secondary sets such as Crucible of War are just good reprints and injecting specific cards into the game) set released will always be in print. so the cards you described as expensive (as they are expensive) will always be able to be cracked in packs.
Thanks for the fresh outside perspective and welcome to the community!
where do people get their decklists for this game? id love to proxy up a couple competitive decks to really see what high level gameplay is like before i drop real cash on it. and i assume the starter decks don't actually resemble the tournament winning lists...
@Buddy Knight thank you! this looks great!
It's a great game! I love the non rotation, more consistent builds, starting out powerful with all the equipment. Calling Vegas showed how much potential this game has!
At one point someone told me not to buy Welcome to Rathe because it would rotate soon, I've heard conflicting things. Really no rotation at all?
i'm guessing there's no rotation right now but i would assume that a year or so down the line there would have to be rotation to prevent power creep, but i guess we'll see how it shakes out.
@@lukestange They've stated no rotation! They have a mechanic where if a specific hero wins a large amount of competitve tourneys that hero will ascend to "living legend" status and retire...but all the other cards stay legal
@@Fudcrup No set rotation!
@@lukedavis3318 that is a very unique way to do it which I kind of like. Have they ever banned anything?
Wow! Pleasantkenobi confirmed as a Flesh and blood player! I would love to watch videos from you talking about fab. And seeing you and the professor play against each other would be been incredible! I wonder what merfolks equals in flash and blood. Possibly brute because they are underrepresented?
Digimon and Flesh & Blood are both great games. I really enjoy that both games have created systems that don't have "mana screw" as Magic has.
Something I’m curious to see is if the Tales classes crack the generic stables nut, since it feels like they just don’t… well, care about generic cards. They feel like they’ll clog up their hands because they can’t use them for fusions. Also looking forward to actually getting to play some limited with this set, since it looks *wicked* on that front. Draft is going to be a real brawl with how open you can stay in regards to what hero you’re goi to ply and for how long.
As someone who has been playing flesh and blood for a little over a year now, my experience has been that skullcap is more of a staple than the tunic. Even then, iron rot helm is a perfectly reasonable replacement at the casual or armory event level.
We saw the meta speed up quite a bit with Monarch so tunic became less valuable, and in blitz it's almost unplayable. Hardened Cross Strap is a .25 cent card that is better in a lot of situations.
The only problematic staple I see right now is that command and conquer. A majestic that goes for 100 dollars a copy and that you need 3 of. Being a majestic at this price point shows just how many decks are playing it. It has a unique effect and can create pivot turns on its own and it goes in most decks, meaning you will be swapping them out a lot.
Anyways! Thanks for making this video! Hopefully you get a few more local players to pick up the game.
I don’t have the time I used to now that I’m a parent but I think fab looks really cool. I bought two blitz decks and plan to learn eventually. But I still need to tear apart my golos deck and find new homes for those orphan cards.
Thank you for doing some FaB videos. Hope to see more in the future!
I haven’t played FAB yet (I have all the precons, but no one to play with), but I will say this: I am delighted this game is doing well, if only because it puts pressure on Wizards to get their own act together. I wish it great success, wholeheartedly.
I went to Vegas Calling event. The tables were all spaced out to help promote social distancing (which was great as then there was room for stuff like backpacks next to every player). Also masks where enforced by all staff and lots of sanitizer was available. I felt safe enough (everyone has there own opinion of feeling safe), but I also liked being at a convention and not getting Pax Pox or Con Cough or anything either. Also there was a plentiful amount of judges so when I asked questions about cards CF even offered if I wanted to practice games against a judge to help learn rules (they had a new player on demand event, but I guess I was the only person to figure that out as I was the only sign up and the event never fired)
I appreciate you pointing out the downsides of the game and not just minimizing the effect the fabled cards have on people wanting to play the game. For me, my largest fear is that sooner or later, they will print a fabled card that will certainly outshine the rest and make it necessary to play competitively. We are already seeing that in small doses with the two cards that you listed. I also absolutely agree with that if collectors want bling, let them have it, but make the actual cards easy to get. Put skullcap or tunic in a precon, but make it different art and no shiny stuff what so ever. Maybe a from the vault idea, but much cheaper, so people can jump in with staples. I believe pokemon have some of the same things in that regard, and yugioh helps mitigate this a bit by making tins with promos of popular staples, driving down the price. Since these rarities are coded into the game, it makes me wary that I will have to end up in a carousel of having to hunt down the latest Fable card in order to play, as each set goes by.
You were right, PK, it was Final Fantasy 14 Online, which currently has a free trial up to level 60, covering the entire base game and award-winning expansion, Heavensward-
The " your never going to sell them" bit hit home hard. Lol.
Not many trading card games are a "scam" so much as a "culture you may or may not want to be a part of". They sell, people play... but is it you? TCG culture is super diverse and I love seeing new games and people passionate and skilled at them, but it doesn't make me want to play. Like watching pro sports or something. Even competitive MTG is like that for me.
i love that there is almost no diff between first and unlimited so we can have a gr8 tcg and investors get their thrills stabilizing the game for us while we can still have access to the best cards in comparison to mtg etc

After playing a few games with the blitz decks, it is a pretty fun game! However, getting people to play it is a huge issue at the lgs in my area. So yeah, I am hyped to see where it goes, but sadly not having any lgs pick up the game so far is kinda disheartening too.
Edited: I absolutely agree with you on the entire tribalism discussion. I used to play Dota 2 and the amount of tribalism between Dota 2 and LoL was insane because of the fact that both games required a lot of time, effort, and commitment to even be decent at even playing the game. When you start to sink money into your hobby, you don't want to be the one with egg on your face if it fails, thus you get super defensive over protecting it and justifying that it is worth while. Even though at the end of the day, what really matters is your enjoyment of the game.
At my LGS, we managed to cannibalize most of the Yugioh players, who now look more forward to playing FAB than Yugioh.
Actually, LSS is fine with Tabletop Sim. Actually even further, unless you charge for the digital client. And, a digital client is nearing release. How do I know? I'm working on it!
Nice to see another tuber from the Southampton area 😎
"Arcanite skullclamp" - sometimes those MTG instincts are hard to turn off.
I'm not into it but I'm happy for the people who enjoy it.
I've played a few matches using friends' decks. It isn't for me, but I'm glad that there is a game for more people to play.
I don't like the arguments made by people leaving magic saying "Magic is dying". Magic has never been more widespread: it's not dying, it's changing.
I liked the video a great deal. Growing up and managing hobbies is difficult.
TBH I often feel if I stop keeping up with Magic and the many releases and changes....I will never catch back up. If I keep up with most needed cards it is still within my budget, but if I stop I fear the game is out of my reach to buy back in.
I like the idea of Flesh and Blood, and like that it is new and I want to support, but then like you said I will fear missing out on Magic.
I'm a fan of Flesh and Blood and I'm also a fan of this video!
Flesh and blood is so good. I’ve tried for years to get my wife into magic and failed. But she picked up and loved fab immediately
Great Library of Solana is only playable in light decks so it does have restrictions. So this means its only playable 2 out of 15 possible decks at the moment. Command and conquer I would likin to a fetchland its like a good card you can play in almost any deck . Prices fit the demand unfortunately.
Very interesting video. Non of my local shops stock flesh and blood currently which is probably a good thing for my wallet. It looks a super fun game but I'm currently playing a lot of digimon and really enjoying it.
Great video - still, totally agree that a digital option would be great, at least to familiarise with the game, or to be able to play at odd hours/when you do not have time to go out/if there is no play group around you. I don't think a full-fledged version of the game such as Arena is needed, but something akin to Pokémon online (where you cannot even buy purely digital packs) would be great.

Great opinion. I do disagree with your take on the fables and the value of tunic and skullcap (both are generic and can be used by any hero). Love the vid I hope you keep kicking it with FaB
24:00 The only good thing about Fabled rates is that they should make all the lower rarity staples cheaper. I only checked Monarch, but it seems like it is working. There doesn’t seem like there is any Majestic or lower rarity card that is expensive in Monarch.
You should try webcam! There are a ton of discords where you can set them up

I live in a metropolitan area and the closest store that carries FaB is two+ hours away. No one at the three stores I frequent plays the game. But I do hope that WotC pays attention to FaB’s efforts.
Can I ask what do you mean about paying attention? Aesthetically I can see why WotC should pay some attention (similar market) but in terms of raw numbers, they would first pay attention to Pokemon and Yugioh, right?
@@Folfire I mean in terms of the event they had in LV and the way they treat content creators. I’m not talking about money. Wizards makes money.
@@kennethdixoniii4113 but money is what brings wotc attention. From a starting point, what fab is doing is great, be it because of good heart or marketing. It would be great if the major card games do see this and try the same. As for the event in Vegas, as a physician I can't agree with such a thing, because it really goes beyond the controls in the event and also involves city regulations down to individual actions, I just see it as unnecessary risk for the things I've seen.
I’ve been playing flesh and blood for a little while and they give out some amazing promos on their events which hold their value, where as mtg promos are just bulk and that’s annoyed me because I’ve been play mtg for 20 years! It’s just like they’ve thought we’re big enough to not invest in freebies just charge silly prices for all the sealed products they’re releasing. I just can’t keep up with it and haven’t played standard in years because I can’t keep with the products so I just stick to modern and legacy
Just an fyi, Library benefits both players, subsequently either player can pitch to destroy it. Let someone else crack one for you and reap the rewards.
That does require you to build your deck to benefit from it. To use a magic analogy, balance affects both players equally and yet almost always benefits one player substantially more.
The entire reason Prism plays Great library is because it gives the deck legs against some of the other control decks of the format which just happen to play almost no yellow cards.
Library of Solana is in my opinion the strongest fable in the game. Look at it from a card advantage and card disadvantage point when you play it.
When you play it, you will always net an advantage because in order for it to get destroyed, your opponent has to play it's discard (any player) option.
You know what I have been burned by a few other games before. Including some of the big boys like Yu-Gi-Oh. So I'm really hesitant to play a new game like Flesh and Blood. I am happy for this video because it answers a lot of my questions and some of my worries.
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Sober unbiased criticism. Love it.
Idk if I'll ever play this game, but it's nice to see new games doing well. I try not to get into new games because they tend to just die on me and I get sad. I loved the transformers TCG but had no one to play with then WOTC just up and killed it, so
Library of solana is like 100.00 to buy in Unlimited bro.
The only way my wife would approve the purchase of my Time Spiral Remastered and Modern Horizons 2 was that I expected to be able to sell the cards for enough to break even, if not make a profit. TSR was a profit. MH2 wasn't...yet but I still have a few cards I could sell. But yeah, the value of the cards was important. But hey, I got a lot of great cards still for free or for a much smaller price than a full box.
that's a fucking awesome thing that they actually support their community and are going out of their way to do good things for you guys James is such a good guy I hope he can stay true to his path and take this game real places
Monarch card prices have been much more reasonable and i think Tales will be the same. CRU unlimited should help the tunic become a bit more reasonable but unfortunately WTR and ARC are a bit of an issue even with unlimited its around 1 legendary per case, ~2 majestics per box with a large card pool. The Super Rares in these sets drive up the price of generic majestics. Skullcap and WTR/ARC Generic Majestics probably need to be reprinted in another supplementary set like CRU then i think things will be much more reasonable all round.
The fables are reprinted in the unlimited sets. Because they are so much less playable, the unlimited version tends to be about the cost of a tunic. I'm not saying it's not an issue, but you made it seem like the fables aren't printed outside the first set, which isn't true. Otherwise great video, I didn't play magic before FaB so this is the first time I've seen your content. I'll subscribe and hopefully see you open those boxes, I'm sure there's a library in your future.

mmm its almost 3 years old now
I haven't played Flesh and Blood yet. It's played pretty regularly at my local LGS. And they're now hosting biweekly tourneys. The real thing that interests me though (on top of people I trust telling me that the game is very well-made) is that FOB is using the hot button topics to help market their game and lure disenfranchised MTG players. The focus on tourneys and prize money. The focus on the ACTUAL GATHERING (COVID aside).
And quite frankly, I'm here for it. How many times have you or I said "Wow fuck WOTC for X?" Now there's a seemingly strong competitor who's willing to use those issues to encourage new people to join their game. Something something "filling an underserved market" something something.
An important note. Yes Arcanite Skullcap is 200$ BUT you only need one compare that to the 40$ standard staple that will be gone in 2 years that you need 4 copies of. Additionally, not all heroes play it they have class specific helms that do something specific for their class. Skullcap is purely played because it blocks for 3 and while that is infact a big deal playing the slightly worse version of that card is not a gamebreaker like not playing fetches in modern is.
I am a competitive player who has had success and top 8s at multiple large events and have been invited to my countries national championship. I don't even own a skullcap and the deck I play does need it, but playing the slightly worse version really isn't a big deal. I am sure it has lost me a game or two but I am still able to play and I am playing at a high level where if youre just going to your local event you can honestly jam a blitz deck precon and still enjoy yourself
As a kiwi, im hella excited!

Ok, I may be dumb, but I thought WoTC wasn't able to acknowledge the secondary market or else they'd get in legal trouble about the gambling-esque aspect of cards. And yet here's flesh and blood outright mentioning it in their reprint philosophy. Is it actually not a legal problem, and WoTC is just being WoTC?
Bingo.
Problem is, WotC promised many years ago, that they won't reprint specific cards. Speculators are hoarding cards since then.
The only 1v1 card game that I would consider beating mtg gameplay wise is Final Fantasy card game.

How many potential players is this game losing due to the stupid-high cost of must-have cards if you want to be competitive? I we learn anything from Magic its that you can print something and have it accessible in the short term to see it jump in value after it goes out of print. Give players the feeling that they can play an affordable game now with the potential that those cards will grow in value later and more people will be willing to jump in. I personally have a huge problem with card accessibility and affordability.
This video is great, I was 10000% in the "this game is artificially overpriced, i'm never going to play this" based on seeing those first editions. I appreciate the reasonable take and insight to lead me back to reality.
