  • Hannya masks depict a woman so overcome with envy and vengeance that she takes on the form of a demon overcome with jealousy and anger. ... These masks are commonly used in Shinto ceremonial practices and used in traditional Japanese theatre, known as Noh Kabuki or Noh theatre.

While performing with a punk band, I had the horrible experience of feeling rageful jealousy/betrayal and a photographer happened to take my picture. The expression on my face (crazy eyes and too-extreme smile) went along with the show, but what I now believe is that this stuff is real and the spirit of Hannya entered me, and it was unbelievably painful, really excruciating, although I didn't learn about Hannya until recently, like two years afterwards. Spooky stuff, the jealousy demon is universal, and it can make a monster out of you! I feel fortunate for it being revealed to me, so I can try to eliminate it from my life, because it's a poison, but it's crazy how easily the spark can ignite when I feel angry about being cheated or disrespected or something 👹👋❤️‍🩹

I used to be a very jealous and insecure person, and it ruined every relationship dating wise I've ever had I am now a little older and from years of working on myself and getting out of my head I am not crippled by jealousy or rage anymore. I have been wanting to get a full trad japanese sleeve of a snake with peonies or lotus flowers. As a symbol to always keep evolving and to preserve, and when I don't like a trait to "shed" it.
Would a hannya mask be a good addition to my snake and flower sleeve? As like a where I was to where I am now?

awesome video bro! I just got my first hannya tattoo (Achilles to behind the knee) it looks amazing. I opted for a red mask with pink turquoise green yellow and gold incorporated into it. The history is rather spooky I like it 👹

I thought it was traditionally a male? The wicked men that came in one of the Buddhist hells, that will be enslaved by the ruler of that hell and given its metal bat to pain other bad people?
