Purtroppo è sempre stato guardato con diffidenza e sufficienza soprattutto dalla critica, forse a causa della sua popolarità e dalla facilità (apparente) con cui ha saputo raggiungere il cuore della gente. Ma non è anche questo un suo grande merito musicale? Viva sempre il nostro caro Puccini!

He was not always popular, he was rated as a craftsman rather than a genius.
My entire life has been Puccini, Puccini I prefer to refer to him as Giacomo.
His grand daughter Simonetta I met at Milan, we exchanged correspondence.

@@Dylonely42 I totally agree with you, Verdi is a great composer too, and there are a lot of other great opera composers, like Janaček, Poulenc, Rossini, Donizetti and so on, but Puccini's harmonies are really unic

Having come relatively late in my life to this array of Puccini's music I feel that I must make the most of listening to it.
I think of all the young people alive now who will NEVER come to this state of appreciation. Their heads are filled with what they have been spoon fed by powerful industry promoters.

The cultural heritage you are listening to was created only by a handful of individuals, with thousands more unknown or quickly forgotten. Musical genius and cultural recognition were what preserved these works of art, and not without some interest from influential powers of those times. That, and the music scene back then had a more obscure, special, festive meaning, while being mostly of easily accessible entertainment value today.

This is so nice, slightly reworked Puccini gems, the guy was a gifted genius, I’ve got all his operas and his church type music too, absolutely awesome, I struggle to find the words to convey how fantastic he is, I always tear up to One Fine Day and O Mio Babbino Caro, Giacomo was a nice looking chap too, see photo at 46:00, love his moustache and I thank him so much for his music, wonderful

Puccini is my favorite. My ultimate Puccini moments were seeing Franco Corelli in Fanciulla and Tosca with that "Vittoria" that went around the world. Fanciulla is so unique with all those different characters that in most operas are "cardboard." He saw the play "Girl of the Golden West" and it took him 5 years to get the rights to it.
Funny that the only opera that's an American western was written by an Italian.
Puccini is something else.I’d rather listen to him for inspiration than the modern stuff.
