    Lovely dancing... !
but can I say, I really don't like that kind of music they have at the Blackpool dance festivals. To me, it is devoid of feeling, of artistic nuances. It sounds sterile to my ear, and particularly because it is with regards to a dancing style that is described and called "Latin". Latin is about "feeling" and this is so contrary to that perception in my taste and view. I cannot watch much of this just for this reason.

Romantic Dance Hi, I did not say the dancers do not have feelings, I said the music does not evoke a latin feeling when I watch that, The dancers dance beautifully, but the music does not feel right to my ear for this kind of dancing. I am a fan of all kind of music and to me, for latin dancing, this is NOT the kind that inspires me (to dance or to watch).

@@Moonrise361 you are referring to a different kind of latin music. What kind of music will you dance a rumba too? This kind of latin music is a fusion of jazz and south American latin

Virunhadhanath Pongparnich yes, obviously, but it was getting ridicolous that all of the biggest names (D. Burns, E. Salberg, Carmen, B. Watson and H. Galke, etc. ) always put R - Y in front of them but they could still manage to win. I remember when Franco - Oksana, Sergey - Melia and Slavik - Anna were still competing, they also got better marks.

Levente Kaszás Thats a bit of a short-sighted and over-generalized view. Its not up to you which judge's opinions are have more merit than others. This is Blackpool, you don't become a judge by being nobody - so if the majority of the other judges (who are all world-class coaches, trainers, and dancers in their own right) picked Michael and Joanna ahead of the R and Y then it is M&J who rightfully won.

Levente Lakner So you don't think any bias is involved? I have a hard time believing that. M&J won 4 out of the 5 dances at Blackpool which is a little ridiculous to me. In my opinion they are better at 2 out of the 5 maybe even 3 out of the 5 if you want to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's a little ridiculous when you say that M&J's samba and jive are better than R&Y's samba and jive. R&Y are clearly better at those two dances. Maybe it has to do with M&J dancing for England and the competition being in Blackpool.

Afanasi Bushmanov I frequently also ask myself similar questions, but whenever formulating an opinion on results I remind myself I have not danced, coached and scrutinized the best couples in the world for 30-50+ years like some of these judges, as such I frequently defer to them and trust that they do their best to choose who is best without bias.
That being said, I do truly believe M&J are superior to R&Y, and I take a little offence that you find it so incredulous that I prefer their dancing. I do not feel R&Y are clearly better (because define better: the two are apples and oranges)
I will be honest, I do not love R&Y. I respect what they bring to the floor but I find it lacks style. You would not look at another couple and say "They are trying to emulate Riccardo and Yulia". Their shapes, musicality, physicality and technique are all flawless, but with some exceptions it isn't particularly unique. Compare that to M&J, Maurizio and Andra, Stefano and Dasha, Andrej and Melinda, even the newer couples in the final like Troels and Ina: each brings something radically unique to latin dancing while still remaining in that scope and for me Riccardo and Yulia are a little generic.
