    I love how this horn's tuning sounds exactly like that of an RS-5T (but with that M-series sound) when given only partial air pressure, and slides into that M-5 chord when given full air pressure.

      Your local Baltimore Railfan. I think a private collector owns it and had it on for the day. I do the same thing on a railroad I work at.

    You got that right! The echoes in the hills seem to bring the horn to life. I've got several videos posted that were recorded on Padre Island, TX. The horns sound ok, but are very bland without the echoes. The constant wind out on the coast doesn't help the recordings much either.

    How can anyone claim the RS5T is the king of horns when this video clearly demonstrates that its not even close?

      K20017 Andy West has a Leslie rs5t-rro from 1979 that is really good sounding and competes with this Nathan m5.

      The RS5T is king because it growls and likes to show who’s boss. The M5 sings very beautifully.

      Everyone has their own opinion as to which one is best. All the serious competitors sound great. Any older horns sound better than the latest ones to me honestly

    With the wear it had inside I'm sure it faithfully served the railroad for quite a while before being retired. Sometime after being retired from service it ended up in a barn where it sat for many years. Thanks for the comment!

    @trainandhawksfan17 Old-cast P5s and properly tuned M5s are designed to sound the same chord, so they would sound similar!

    @dgblairjr42 I'm not positive what RR it came from, but it appears to have an ACL inspired paint scheme. Not sure if it was painted that way by the RR or if it was done by a collector as it was found in a barn in FL where it had been sitting for many years. Your guess is as good as mine.     Yes, a beautiful horn! However. I'll bet that many or all of the non-railfan riders think that its merely annoying noise.

    Just doesn't sound the same in the flatlands like here in Ohio. Only when they are blown in the hills do you get the full depth of the horn.
