Why do people like the Hunger games, you may ask? Just to be clear: the hunger games isnt’t just a story about kids killing eachother (when people say that’s all they can remember about it, they did not grab the essence of Suzuane’s work). The hunger games - especially this one - has a pretty serious storyline. Its about rebellion, war and what is morally rightous (and what not). It contains loads of dope historical and political easter eggs. It is a critism on capitalism, totalitarianism, overconsumtion, media consumption and so much more. It refers to the past, future and anything inbetween that can become reality one day. The symbolism has so many layers! Collins is a genius! The hunger games is all about being human and standing for what is right. It basically has everything. Read the books. Love the story. Mark my words: this will be (and already kinda is) a classic.
FURTHER ANALYSIS: This edit highlights the destruction of the games. It shows how Snow, as a ruler, manipulates hope - in both the arena and in the whole of Panem. These movies and books are essentially about hope and standing up for what is right. The poetic justice Suzanne Collins imposes through fictional characters such as Katniss, Lucy, Peeta and Sejanus is truly magnificent. Her story shows that war is a nightmare that should never be romanticised. Fighting should never be seen trough the lens of a mere spectacle. I hereby ask all the fans to reflect on the compexity of the story and intersectionality of real worldwide issues - not just trough fiction. In war there are no victors, only survivors. We should always remember that violence is never the correct answer. ✌️🕊

EXPLANATION: In the beginning of the story Snow can’t find the right words to justify the games (we also see this in the new trailer). So, Dr. Gaul keeps asking him this question unitil he becomes corrupted with her ideas. In this edit we hear future president Snow answering the question with his well-known “hope is the only thing stonger than fear” theory: A lot of hope is dangerous and can stir up a revolution against his corrupted gouvernement. So, he tries to contain it (with the hunger games and other forms of violence). It is terrible and cruel. Amazing writing from Suzanne Collins.

Isnt the hunger games format made to give hope that those tribute live? I mean, now there are a lot of gifts, help, places to hide, etc. It just make the game longer and make people have hope that their child will survive

Yes! Plus: Snow believes that all humans are inherenty evil (Dr. Graul made him believe that). The hunger Games is a reminder and reflection of this evil nature. This is the opposite mindset of what Lucy Gray believes: we are born good but can become evil if we choose the wrong path. Lucy is right obvously…

I also agree with the “hope is the only thing stronger than fear” part, but not in the way Snow manipulates hope (“A little hope is effective. A lot of hope is dangerous… We have to contain it with the hunger games”). Snow is very intelligent but he uses his intelligence in a corrupt way. But yeah, hope is indeed the only thing stronger than fear and it is such a beautiful quote from Suzanne Collins! :)

I like this movie so much. It's a shame that Lucy and Covey never saw each other again. All that remains of Lucy are her songs. Maud Ivory remembered every one of them.

The fact that Katniss could be Lucy's relative haunts me. After all, Katniss heard the song about the hanged man from her father. So she may be the granddaughter of Maude Ivory, Lucy's cousin. Maudе had an excellent memory and remembered the words of the song well. Katniss comes from a family of singers.The Coveys were all musicians.
The Covey were a nomadic people in Panem known for their musical talent and performances.
My opinion on what they are for, is fear. A distraction from what is truly going on. It scares the districts so much that they are distracted from the truth. (That's what I think lol! Im only one catching fire so pls don't reply spoilers)
Exactly! (I will not give away any spoilers) Snow thrives off fear. And the games do not only distract the districs from the truth but also blinds the rich people from the capitol. It wrecks their moral compass. Ur on the right track, you will find out more soon, especially in the ballad od songbirds & snakes :)
