Domain names can seem like a complicated topic, but after you finish this video, you’ll have the foundation necessary to make intelligent decisions related to subdomains.
A subdomain is an optional part of a URL that creates a completely separate section of your website. If a URL has a subdomain, it will precede the domain name with a period.
Websites might use subdomains to test or stage web development, to create new directories to separate and store web files, or to communicate unique segments of a website to the end user.
For example, Tumblr uses subdomains for each of its users.
Example.tumblr.com
Example2.tumblr.com
In the two addresses above, Example. and Example2. are both subdomains that Tumblr uses to store and display unique pages to its visitors. As you can see, both websites use the same domain name, with a unique subdomain.
In our previous example, www. - which stands for the World Wide Web - serves as a subdomain. Many domains have started dropping the www. subdomain, while others still use it.
It’s important to know that web servers do see these two versions of a website differently. You must set up proper redirects to your canonical domain if you want to resolve any issues between www and non-www subdomains for your URL.
Understanding domain names and the ancillary components are important steps when deciding on the perfect domain name.

Interesting! I am using a Directory theme and want to have a subdomain for login and other for community interaction. Do I need to install the same theme (Directory theme) on the subdomains? Thank you.

This is the 9th time they did it, because for some reason people love the information in Boise, Idaho. And that decision to waste your money crushed your business in the wrong direction with frivolous traffic. No. Cuz he wouldv'e said that. If you had a product in WPB that could be sold in Boise, Idaho; then that was a great idea. But you don't have a certificate to sell insurance to the 3 people living abroad in South America. It is a crucial business decision that dumps money compared to marketing your business in a straight line fashion with disciplined advertising to back it up.?

Note: The other reason is simple. The programming language of a search engine is complexual. Before you get started saying SEO, you should stare at their ability to program, then their ability to write. Then there is only one God, and that is Photoshop. If they don't have the ability to program with photoshop to benefit your business, OR never ran a business before... there is a risk to being you. Not their fault they went to school for it instead of doing sales, couldn't make their office bills, didn't learn employee costs, never went broke during the holidays, and now want to work in the marketing department for your business. That's your fault.
FYI the original deal between Godaddy and Google, Inc is still valid today as far as i understand; but they did sell godaddy i believe that was the reason danika left.
Im LA. Im considered very good at 22 million competitors. But NYC is good at their area. Imagine competing in your town with seo internet marketing with a NYC programmer. They have to save your money. They have to because $1 to show all people an ad is 22 million a day. Do you know how good you gotta be to make you money on a street and only a street. You gotta focus and have a plan and never change.
then 8 years later u have to change from subdomain to tree or tree to subdomain. find out the phone rings in less than 2 days afterwards.
The reason is if you interview me. I would tell you the answer immediately. Neither one of these two people have run 25 different company sites for 5 years or more. THEY WOULDNT HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE AS TO WHAT THE REASON IS... Do not listen to these people just ask me depending on what type of business you are running. It is THE MAIN REASON YOU DONT BLOG UNLESS ITS ON A SUBDOMAIN. Zero value. It's important because you'll lose a ton of customers over years on making that mistake.
I would SERIOUSLY TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION of NO LONGER OFFERING BOTH OF THEM EMPLOYMENT. Not an authority.
